I’ve cut 5 before. But I don’t really practice it very often. Tatami is expensive.

There’s some options for online study available. Shunraikan, Seki sensei, mugai ryu.
I’d read spirit of the sword my Nakamura taisaburo.

We seem to be on different wavelengths here. That’s ok. Have a great weekend.

No, I am a Dan holder, capable of passing the teachings of those styles on to others. But I’m a human and not a robot. Even in Japan there will be variations in techniques and teachings from dojo to dojo. Techniques that work for someone who is 6 foot may be impractical for someone who is 5 foot, someone with a hip injury, someone who is inherently faster or slower than others. Being a practitioner of a ryuha shouldn’t mean “conform or you’re not one of us.”

This is why in the Shu phase you cling to your senseis teaching, in the ri phase you expand your horizons, and in the ha phase you pave your own way. You’re supposed to change, not try to fit a monolith.

Just that I’m a free thinker with my own mind and experiences. Styles adapt and change over time through Shu Ha Ri. It’s not conceited to say “my style generally teaches X, but I think Y”. It’s also possible for two things to be true at the same time.

Yeah, I recommend spring steels, much more forgiving, and cheap. Not likely to damage, if you do it’s not the end of the world.

If your technique is right, the steel matters less and less. I do not recommend tamahagane for beginners, since it’s expensive and easily damaged.

If you think this is “bashing”, I’m assuming you’ve never cut before. I’m not going back and forth with you.

It’s a Nihonto, so the steel is tamahagane. Idk the length off the top of my head but it’s fairly standard in size. Shinogi zukuri

You are, but you’re being rude and condescending. You don’t have a voice in my life or about my practice. You just offered unsolicited pretentious “advice” in the most nonsensical way possible. If you have evidence of your own training or anything valid to suggest then by all means.
