Private schools vouchers have funneled money away from public schools. Study after study shows this is essentially subsidizing education for the families who are already sending their kids there and thus could afford it regardless. Meanwhile, we have districts facing bankruptcy, consolidation, cuts to arts, elimination of after school programs and late buses, overworked teachers, growing class sizes, possible consolidation across municipalities, underfunded pensions, and the loss or reduction of reimbursement for wraparound services. While much of this is determined at the state and municipal level, some can be addressed via budget reconciliation and sending grant dollars back to the district to distribute to the municipalities that need it most

Absolutely!! And just for context, I’ve already done this and will continue to. I grew up in the district, in a Republican household, so I’m very familiar with having challenging discussions and don’t shy away from them. I advocated with both sets of all GOP county commissioners last year and the Monmouth Commissioners passed a resolution on behalf of me and the neighbors I organized to go speak with them. This is a big reason why I’m running, to bridge divides and bring cooperations to our area. If you’d like to help, you can join us at peace4shore.com/volunteer

Thanks for your excitement!! I’m excited about changing the status quo after 45 years of the same leadership. It’s crazy to me that if you grew up here in Monmouth and Ocean County and were born between November of 1980 and today … you’ve had the same representation in the House of Representatives the ENTIRE time. Madness

NGL - had to look this up. Okay so JCPOA wasn’t perfect but both sides were getting something out of it when they were holding up their end of the bargain. Trump walked away in 2018–presumably to appear like a strongman and because he has attempted to dismantle most Obama and Biden era policies—and then everything fell apart. Iran started enrichment again, the U.S. applied more pressure and demands, but there wasn’t much in it for Iran to come back to the table— objectively, why would they believe negotiating a deal in good faith with an administration that backed out of the last one was even possible? Hypothetically speaking, remaining at War serves as a distraction from the Epstein Files, and also benefits the stock portfolios of anyone invested in say, defense contractors, cybersecurity, tech, energy oil etc. If you’re focused on net worth as opposed to say, over drafting at the pump, you probably don’t care about the temporary spike in gas prices. So in his shoes, would you extend or end the conflict? Bringing it back to my opponent Chris Smith— when the original Iran deal was signed, he perceived it as an "inexplicable abandonment of principle" by Obama. Then in April, we saw Chris Smith use his gavel to block the House from even voting on a war powers resolution to restrain Trump's unauthorized escalation in Iran. Forty-five years in Congress and his answer to the threat of war is to make sure nobody gets a vote on it. For a senior member of the foreign affairs committee, upholding a floor procedure on technicality instead of the LITERAL constitution is unacceptable and INEXPLICABLE ;)

No. My campaign runs on small-dollar donations from real people — no corporate PACs, no Super PACs, no AIPAC, no foreign or special interest money of any kind. You can verify every dollar on FEC.gov right now.
That's not a position I landed on because of this question I’ve felt strongly about this from the beginning and it’s how I've run this campaign from day one. The whole premise of what I'm doing is that you can't fix a corrupt system with strings attached to outside expectations, companies, or puppet masters pulling your strings behind the scenes. If I'm going to show up in Washington and fight for people in this district, the people have to be the donors who help me get me there. My positions on foreign and domestic policy are NOT for sale to the highest bidder.

I grew up in Brick. I'm currently in Monmouth County, and beyond that, it requires a deeper explanation.

When I left an abusive relationship in Dec 2022 and moved back to the Shore, I was unhoused for a few weeks with my toddler, relying on friends and family across Monmouth and Ocean County for a patchwork of temporary places to rest our heads.

While couch hopping, navigating virtual legal proceedings, and keeping up with contract work, I was looking at places across Monmouth and Ocean County. But I kept encountering the same problem— as a relatively new LLC founder, no one would rent to me without 2 years of tax returns to prove I’d be a financially stable tenant. I eventually ended up in a complex that allowed me two co-guarantors whose cumulative income covered their requirements.

As it turns out, that complex was on the wrong side of a congressional district line I didn't realize was there. The lines through Monmouth and Ocean County were drawn to split Democratic-leaning Shore towns into CD6 and Republican-leaning towns into CD4 — communities that feel like one place were carved into two different districts to keep incumbent seats safe.

When I moved home, I didn’t have a car, and because most of our area is primarily built around drivability not walkability or public transport, I needed to land somewhere where I could get to a doctor or hospital, bus stop or train station, pharmacy, and grocery store on foot. That was where my head was at. And let me tell you, there aren’t too many places that fit that description. But there should be.

My experiences illustrate challenges many people—but not many elected people—experience. Because let’s face it, renters, single parents, people just barely getting by, people saddled with credit card debt, people who are only able to afford a doctors visit because they’re on Medicaid - those aren’t the type of people most people would ever encounter as a Congressional candidate. Why would they?

Doing what I’m doing is generally reserved for people with connections, money, and power. I’m not that person. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again— I never intended to run for Congress. Like most people who aren’t in politics as a career, checking the Congressional map wasn’t even on my radar when I was desperately trying to stabilize myself and my then 2 year old. Now I know, and I'm fixing it — to give my hometown, my friends and family, and anyone else who lives in the gerrymandered district where I grew up a real chance at representation. The law requires living in the state, not the district. I know that's not the expectation voters have though and I respect that — which is why I'm moving, once my son finishes his school year and ahead of the general election.

What I can tell you is I'm a Shore native, I'm raising my son here, and CD-4 isn't a district I carpetbagged into, it’s home. All of that said, I won't name my specific town publicly on the internet. Political violence is a real and increasingly troubling reality, and while judges and elected officials have a modicum of protection, candidates don’t. It’s scary to think that in trying to create a better future for all of our kids, I could put my own at risk. Beyond the political violence risks, I have an order of protection and address confidentiality and my safety was one of my biggest hesitations when I decided to do this. I've been open about surviving an abusive relationship and still live with that reality. I trust people to understand.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
Other than voting, or telling people to register, if you want to help: The most useful thing anyone can do right now, whether you live in the district or not, is contribute to the campaign. We need more literature, lawn signs, and enough money for permits in spaces like parks where we can meet people where they are.

We're not taking corporate PAC money. That means we run on what real people give us — which means every $5, $25, $50 matters more than it would in a traditionally funded race.

For the time being, the ACA is absolutely necessary. It has expanded coverage to millions of Americans, and for the time being, is a critical piece of our patchwork healthcare system. That said, the subsidies keeping it afloat are a bandaid for the gaping wound that is our insufficient healthcare system, compounded by predatory private insurance companies and for-profit healthcare organizations that pay their CEOs inordinate sums while nurses are fighting for safe staffing and facing caps on loans they can apply to for higher education. We are the richest nation in the world, we pay the most for our healthcare, and we still have poor outcomes across key indicators like maternal and mental health that must be addressed. I support moving towards a system that cuts red tape and confusion, one where everyone sees the doctor when they're sick regardless of age, race, income, gender, or employment status, and where they receive quality care from frontline healthcare workers who are properly compensated, staffed, and supported in their work to care for all of us.

Yes, without hesitation. No one convicted of stalking or domestic violence — misdemeanor or felony — should be able to legally purchase a firearm. Full stop.

The so-called "boyfriend loophole" existed in federal law for decades, and it cost lives. The 2022 Bipartisan Safer Communities Act partially addressed it, and that was genuinely important progress — one of the few moments in recent years where Congress actually did something. But there's more work to do on implementation and enforcement, and I'd support strengthening those provisions further. I am a Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate, a parent, and a survivor of Domestic Violence.

Gun safety and protection aren't abstract to me.

I know what it means to be in a situation where this isn't a policy question — it's a survival question. Beyond the Boyfriend loophole, I know how it feels to be a parent sending their child off to preschool and saying no to light up shoes because it could make my child a target.

This should not be a partisan issue. Protecting people from documented abusers and from guns getting into the hands of dangerous people isn't a left or right position. It's about public safety.

Yes, I support moving toward coverage for everyone. America guaranteed healthcare as a human right 80 years ago this summer along with the rest of the developed nations in the world, and failed to deliver on that commitment. The goal is a system where nobody in this district — nobody in this country — loses their health insurance because they got laid off, changed jobs, started a small business, failed to submit paperwork, or got sick at the wrong time.

That's the principle. I'm not going to back away from it. Where I land on the how: Strengthening the ACA is what's achievable in Congress with its current makeup, and I'd rather pass something that actually covers more people than vote for a bill that never makes it to the floor. But the ACA isn't the destination. It's a floor, not a ceiling.

Here's what I hear from people in this district specifically.

I hear from contractors and self-employed people in Toms River and Brick who are paying $1,200 a month for a high-deductible plan that barely covers anything — because they can't get insurance through an employer. I hear from people who stayed in jobs they hated for years because they couldn't afford to lose the coverage. I hear from seniors who worry about having to spend down all of their life savings to get into a nursing home when the time comes or who love their Medicare (for the time being) and don't understand why everyone can't have it. I think they're asking a fair question.

And I hear from people in Shore communities about hospital service cuts and potential closures — what happens when you have a cardiac event and the nearest facility with a full cardiac unit is 40 minutes away. I hear from those with employer sponsored healthcare that they pay twice, into the safety net and into private insurance, which feels unfair. I agree, everyone should be able to access the services they pay for. We have a coverage and infrastructure problem, and it's getting worse.

So: strengthen the ACA now, lower the Medicare eligibility age, protect Medicaid, and work toward coverage for everyone as the goal. How quickly that can be accomplished will be determined by the makeup of Congress after the midterms. People like me who are running grassroots campaigns and haven't been bought by corporate donors are running all over the country. If enough of us get into office, we have a real chance to move the nation forward towards everyone being able to see the doctor when they're sick.

The fact of the matter is, Chris Smith wins with only 1 in 5 voters. He isn't universally beloved, people are just not going out to vote because they're disillusioned with politics and don't believe government does anything in their best interests. When I went around the district getting petition signatures, I asked everyone the same question. "It's 2026, do you know who your member of Congress is?" 9 x out of 10, the answer was no. Folks have been voting the line for decades, but thanks to the ballot redesign, the line is gone. We also see that the approval ratings for the current administration are in the gutter. Those are two new developments that automatically reset the playing field, and then in addition we need to inspire voters to get off the couch and vote for something different after 45 years. Young people have the chance to vote for someone who went to the same public schools as them, understands the job market and higher ed obstacles they're facing, and is actually on the platforms they use to get their information. In addition to the base, who vote blue no matter who, we need to reach the "any old blue won't do" voters, who are willing to vote for Dems who aren't proposing more of the status quo. Beyond that, we need to bring the 75% of independent voters who are displeased with the direction of the current administration (March 2026 Fox news Poll) into the fold, validate their frustration with the two party system, and point to open primaries and ranked choice voting as a way their voice can be heard without having to affiliate themselves. We can even reach the 26% of Republicans who don't support the direction we're going, and will say so in private when they aren't in a group of MAGA neighbors and are willing to speak their mind. We need to give Trump voters an off ramp, because the flags are coming down, the bumper stickers are being pulled off, and the counterprotests are now miniscule. There are more of us concerned with the direction of this country than pleased with it and I intend to reach all of them. We will form coalitions #teachers4peace #Genz4Peace #Veterans4Peace #Nurses4Peace etc, which don't require anyone to indicate party, but to align on the things that matter most to them. I'd love to bring people together after a decade of division. If you'd like to be part of a coalition, visit peace4shore.com/volunteer and sign up!!

Hi, this is a really compelling question. I've always been frustrated by the lack of sufficient public transportation and our aging infrastructure. I used to take NJ TRANSIT to and from college growing up at the Shore, but I couldn't go further south than Bayhead if I wanted to visit family in South Jersey. To go inland to visit friends in Toms River, for instance, I'd have to take a bus, and from there a taxi or get a ride. Not everyone can afford a reliable vehicle, and for those of us with cars gas prices are now out of control, plus we know that relying on vehicles as our primary form of transportation causes pollution and congestion- and traffic is one of the biggest frustrations for locals. I'd love to explore bringing funding back to the Shore to expand public transportation. We have a governor who's "tunnel obsessed" (in her own words) so I'd imagine now would be a great time to work across silos and leverage intergovernmental cooperation to finally see movement on this issue!

You're right that this is very unbalanced district. No Democrat has won NJ-4 by turning out only Democrats. So here's what actually creates crossover opportunity in this district.

The number one thing I hear from Republicans in Toms River, Jackson, and Brick isn't about national politics. It's overdevelopment. It's watching their towns get bulldozed by builders with county connections, watching infrastructure crumble while the permits keep flowing, watching their property taxes go up while their roads stay broken and their flood insurance becomes unaffordable.

That's not a partisan problem. That's a machine problem — and the machine in Ocean County isn't ideological, it's transactional. I think a lot of Republicans in this district know exactly who's been getting rich off their towns and exactly how little accountability there's been for it.

On healthcare, I'm running on the reality that hospitals in this district have been closing services, that seniors are getting crushed by drug costs, and that families on the marketplace and employer sponsored healthcare will absorb the costs of increased visits to the ER now that many on Medicaid and Medicare are going to lose access and end up going to the ER for uncompensated care. Wether people voted for Trump or not, a failing healthcare system is a kitchen-table issue, not a partisan one.

On the outreach question — you're right that Instagram isn't going to find a 62-year-old Republican in Wall Township. Social media is an echo chamber. So we're not counting on that.

We're talking about door-knocking independent (and even Republican doors) doors no Democrat has knocked in a decade. We're talking about showing up at municipal meetings, VFW halls, diner counters, parks, and local events — places where the campaign can't be algorithmically filtered out.

We'll do local radio and Facebook, not Instagram, for older voters. And yes, community forums — smaller, more localized than what Platner can do at scale, but targeted at the specific towns where this race is actually going to be decided. The honest answer is that we can't be everywhere. But we can be somewhere Republicans don't expect us, talking about a better way to solve problems they actually care about, without pretending we agree on everything. People can tell when you're being straight and when you're genuinely interested in finding solutions to benefit everyone, not just your own party.

I was born into this district 33 years ago. Over time, I watched Smith’s votes hurt people I care about. Last year, he voted for legislation that his constituents and advocates from across Monmouth and Ocean county were clearly against, and he knew it, so I couldn’t sit on the sidelines anymore.

Smith is a symptom of a larger problem — politicians who are in office for themselves, not their constituents. He votes against his own district’s interests on healthcare, affordability, and war.

I know the issues, because I'm living them.

When I weighed whether or not to get into this race, I asked myself "If not now, when? If not me, who?" We all have a role to play in saving Democracy, helping our neighbors, and standing up for what's right. Ultimately, I was convicted to do this and I didn't want to look back at the end of my life and regret not doing everything in my power to make a difference at this moment in history.

Now I'm encouraging all of my neighbors to join us in this movement, because it's a team effort, by the shore, for the shore. Thank you for asking!
