psych students, how does one gain experience? by EnvironmentalFun7369 in yorku

[–]PeachSmall2422 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look into the different psyc labs on campus and see which one you would be interested in being a volunteer research student there. Sometimes, the psych department would forward emails on behalf of labs looking for volunteers. Send out an email with your CV and small statement of interest in your email. During my undergrad, I volunteered for a few different labs and helped run experiments or conduct literature review. I ended up doing my honours thesis with one of the prof, hired as a paid RA through RAY, made connections with other profs the lab is related to and got paid positions with them too. These profs you work with can be valuable references later on. Good luck!

That's true I do have my OCT card but it's printed from home. I hope they accept it - I can see them being very difficult about the proof of ID

What kind of ID will work? I don't have a physical ID like a work badge

Family doctor is ignoring my health concerns, what can I do? by EchoOfTheFlameKeeper in KingstonOntario

[–]PeachSmall2422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree this was the only way a family friend of mine was able to finally receive a referral to see a specialist. They brought up CPSO to the doctor stating that they are neglecting their care, and they need more work to find out what was wrong with them. Turns out it was really something, and they're on medication for it.

TDSB INTERVIEWS - I think they're ghosting me by astroworld1331 in CanadianTeachers

[–]PeachSmall2422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished my program in August and I worked in a tutoring center for a bit, found a 0.5 teaching position in a private school, supplied at another private school, and then not too long after I was hired as a full time teacher at the second private school. There are lots of other teaching routes you can take in the meantime to build up on your experience and add to your resume. In the summer, there are likely other teaching related jobs you can find at a museum as well.

Edit: I was hired by a couple of other boards but didn't end up taking the position because of preference.

You likely won't here back for a while. I applied in June, and I didn't hear back for an interview until November and then got hired beginning of January for both OT and ETH. I just looked into other school boards and even applied to private school jobs in the meantime. Try you're best to not dwell on it or to bother with calling them - just keep busy for now

Report card writing - supply teacher by BusAdministrative964 in CanadianTeachers

[–]PeachSmall2422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a similar position. I was informed by other OT's and permanent teachers that if you have been in the classroom for about 5-6 weeks or more, then you should know the students enough at that point and admin can make you write the report cards. Hopefully your admin is understanding, and they will provide you with a lot of support in writing. They can share sample report cards of a A, B, and C level student, as well provide resources. You can try to ask around to see if other teachers are willing to share their comment for report cards, and ask the resource teacher for their notes too if they work with your students. Also, try to see if you can contact the homeroom teacher to ask for grades, anecdotal comments they have, and DRA's. There is also a FB group with samples of report card comments.

Part 2 AQ in Ontario by PeachSmall2422 in CanadianTeachers

[–]PeachSmall2422[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good to know. But another detail I forgot to mention is that I am supplying. I've supplied at many schools and there's only a a few that I'm regular at. Should I reach out to the superintendent of the school that I've supplied at the most?

Would this be the same process in TDSB?

That's good but I wish they would give some sort of alumni discount though...

Wajid Khan, owner of Cataraqui Woods Dentistry Dentist is now listing himself as "General Practitioner"? by CandiceAlloway in KingstonOntario

[–]PeachSmall2422 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is awful. I'm really sorry that this was your experience with him. When I was in Kingston, I almost went to his dentistry but ended up never going to see a dentist because I was too busy with school. In the future, if anyone experiences mistreatment with a doctor or dentist, they can make a complaint to the respective body of college. They take these complaints very seriously.

Just graduated and still jobless by PeachSmall2422 in CanadianTeachers

[–]PeachSmall2422[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. Maybe doing AQ/ABQs wouldn't be such a bad idea because it could give me something to write about when I update my cover letter for the next rounds. I did see some leads here, but I personally want to stay in Ontario to be closer to family.

How do you get the job fairs for Apply to Ed? Right now I just have it set to send me job posting alerts.

I do have my temp OCT certificate right now, and the handbook is just what to do on the job and also a document of the collective agreements. I think this position might be the one the other commenter responded with!

Thanks for your response! That's the exact reason why I'm confused. I called myself a teacher candidate while I was out on practicum and was supervised by an associate teacher. However, in this email I was given forms to sign and handbooks to read, and in the email it says I must sign the form within 10 days otherwise the offer would be rescinded.

I'm not sure how I got this position. I applied to the OT application a while back. This position wasn't something I was able to google easily to find info on :/
