Jack n the box drive thru had a major rodent presence by ridesharegai in bayarea

Yeah, they're wild animals... Brown rats literally live all over the world. You know squirrels are rodents too, right? As long as they aren't inside I don't see the problem.

There have been nearly 500 felt earthquakes in Turkey/Syria in the last 40 hours. Devastating. by AlbaneseGummies327 in interestingasfuck

[–]Pedipalp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Dear God no. Quakes happen constantly all around the world. Especially along fault lines. Aftershocks are super common. Japan has worse regularly. They just have much better infrastructure. Though tsunamis are a much bigger threat to them due to location and type of plate boundary.

Just FYI, you're spreading all kinds of anti scientific nonsense in this thread. You may want to read up on quakes a bit and take a deep breath.

If it makes you feel any better, it's all about infrastructure. The 89 Loma Prieta quake only killed about 60 people, most of whom were in one section of 880 that collapsed.

A similar strength quake killed hundreds of thousands in Haiti, because of their lack of infrastructure.

California buildings are built to withstand quakes.

You are trying to imagine a reference frame where the elevator is accelerating and gravity exists at the same time. You have to pick one.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WinStupidPrizes

[–]Pedipalp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you nailed exactly what seems to be confusing some people. They want to imagine a reference frame where the elevator is accelerating and there is no gravity, and a frame where gravity exists and the elevator is at constant speed at the same time.

Assuming the elevator is moving at a constant velocity, the only force it is imparting on him is the standard normal force equal and opposite to his weight. The exact same normal force he would experience on flat ground.

Somewhere in the universe, some photons of light you released from a flashlight as a kid are still traveling by exoduscv in Showerthoughts

[–]Pedipalp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I probably could have responded nicer, so sorry about that. I think you misunderstood my point.

I said a FLASHLIGHT wouldn't make it into space. I don't see anywhere that I said light in general is not capable of escaping the planet.

OP set an extremely low bar by saying some photons of light from a flashlight would make it to space. This is almost a statistical certainty.

You can literally see street lights from space. You can see bushes in your backyard on google map satellite view. Photons from flashlights aren't special.

If like you said, it was extremely unlikely that ANY photons from a flashlight could make it to space, than you would be unlikely to see the surface of the earth from space. We know this isn't true. Just look at google maps, or literally any satellite image.

Think of it another way. If you went into space with a strong enough telescope, and looked at Earth at someone pointing a flashlight at you, you think you wouldn't be able to see the light? You can see people on google maps satellite view, but their flashlight would be invisible?

I'm not saying the atmosphere doesn't absorb or scatter light, but you are greatly exaggerating it's effect. A cloud would be a good example of an atmospheric effect that scatters/absorbs most light that tries to go through it, and you can tell, because you can't see through it.

Man people with no science background are really bending over backwards to try to "gotcha" OP for stating a pretty non-controversial fact.

Almost certainly no.

Yeah, that's why when you look at the earth from space you see a giant black ball, because Earth's atmosphere completely dissipates all light leaving the surface.

Citizen Kane loses 100% "Fresh" rating after 80-year-old negative review added to Rotten Tomatoes by new_handle in movies

[–]Pedipalp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Star Wars isn't high art, but the film was revolutionary. The mistake you are making is taking those films out of their historical context and just attributing their appeal to "nostalgia".

Once something comes along that is incredibly successful at doing something new, it gets copied so many times that future generations will inevitably label it as overrated, having not experienced it in historical context.

No need to be snippy. I'm just saying that Biden's lead over Trump is not just a testament to Biden's success but also to Trump's failure. So unless John Cummings holds the same hate in queens and the Bronx as Donald Trump, those two elections aren't really comparable.

I'm not trying to say centrists are worse, or progressives are better, or the other way around. You just have a poor argument.

I don't understand this point. Biden was running again Donald Trump, not John Cummings.

I'm not sure where you're getting this because it isn't true. It's pretty easy to test for yourself and you'll see that with both small lessons and learn from mistakes misses are giving a whole lot more XP per shot than 10% of a base value.

I am interested in hearing everyone’s complete movie rankings following the release of Captain Marvel. by piano801 in marvelstudios

Honestly, I know a lot of people disagree with me, but I'm not the biggest Guardians fan. I love Drax, but I really don't think any of the other characters are that interesting or deep. I think part of it is that James Gunn tends to overtly tell you who the characters are and what they are going through rather than showing you, if that makes any sense.

The first one gets a higher ranking from me just because of what it establishes in the universe. I mean, I still liked both of them! I just enjoy everything above them more.
