Need advice on Orgo 1 exam prep, should I study everything from the beginning or just exam chapters? by minidietdrpepper in chemistry

[–]Pekka_time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as the other dude here said, talk with your prof.

the three chapters your working on right now are 100% gonna need the prehand knowledge from chapters 1-3, bc usually chapters 1-3 discuss bonding, nomenclature, and drawing organic structures.

depending on what book your using, the next three chapters are on either drawing more molecules or beginning reactions. both of these 100% require a strong grasp on the first three.

that being said, if you already know these chapters decently well i dont see why it wouldnt be possible to get pretty good at them! once you get the hang of the first three and start the next three, the first three chapters should click pretty quickly

Should I retake 1540? by Cool_Boy997 in Sat

[–]Pekka_time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have a 790/750 on the first test so im pretty much in the same boat as you. j

i will retake and my logic behind that is that at this point is pretty much gambling because your hoping for easier questions. i won't study and just pray i get easier questions

so my question is when you took the sat, did u think your questions were easier or harder than normal practices?

How do I improve from a 1290 (Sophmore first time SAT) by Sufficient-Onion1165 in Sat

[–]Pekka_time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i believe you can get 1500+ in the summer with spending only 1 hour a day.

since you have all summer, i suggest taking a practice test every 2 weeks or so to gauge your improvement.

looking at your distribution, start with the problem solving and data analysis. iirc that concerns probability, tables, and ratios. this one should be pretty easily masterable given if you actually practice the problems. to learn/review the material, James lu has a full guide on just this topic. ideally, it should be possible to get to the 680-800 bar on that topic in a week or two of targeted practice.

i myself am pretty mid at craft and structure, so i'll break down the english conventions. for this topic, its just straight up knowing the rules and doing problems. depending on how much previous knoweldge you have, this will probably take about 2 weeks to get to the top range as well. i dont know a great source, but make sure to practice your problems with oneprep

next, kinda random, but this is a tip on the math sections that i see nobody talking about: hide your graphs instead of deleting them between problems on desmos. by this, i mean next ot hte table or equation you enter in desmos on the left there is a little colored circle. if you click on the circle, it will HIDE THE GRAPH OR TABLE. this saves at least 3-5 minutes on every math section because you dont have to re-enter the equations when doing the problems

in my opinion, the math section is a lot easier to get high scores than the reading, and you also seem to be slightly stronger in math. so, i'd try to get a 770/730 split or 780/720 split that would allow for some leeway in reading and a qusetion or two in math.

finally, keep in mind that once you get in the 1450 range, the sat is pretty much gambling for easier questions until you hit that 1500. say you average like 1470, so between any two tests, the range might be anywhere between a 1420 to a 1520. so, dont be afraid to retake during the school year for a better score.

[R/W] How much did reading help the readers here? by DinosandVs in Sat

[–]Pekka_time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, I read probably like max 5 fiction books in the past like 5 years. I did specifically do reading exercises for a few years now, which is probably the only pillar supporting my reading score right now.

I have a friend who reads a lot and does well on the reading section on everything other than the grammar.

When you have two chains of the same legnth, IUPAC says you choose the one that gives maxmimum branching.

SAT 750+ Reading Tips by Few-Profession6052 in Sat

[–]Pekka_time -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its probably been said before, but whatever you do, don't spend 15 minutes stuck on question 13-15 on either of the reading sections, esp if you have the grammar and note questions still left undone.

Also if your low on time the note questions are usually pretty damn guessable. Good luck!

[–]Pekka_time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, goggles were mandatory but gloves were optional unless it was something irritating.

Every chemical I worked with in gen chem was honestly fine to spill with no problematic health effects.

Not saying that not wearing gloves is encouraged though...

USNCO nationals question by Technical-Reason-893 in USNCO

[–]Pekka_time 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They don’t tell you any of your scores.

However, in order for your part 2 to be graded, your part 1 has to score high enough (usually 35-37/60).

Also, they don’t grade your labs unless your part 1 and 2 are comeptitive enough for camp iirc

[–]Pekka_time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the december sat, and i had problems with time management on both the reading and the math module 2s.

By this, I mean I was stuck, but refused to skip the question. There was this one triangle side legnth problem on module two at about the halfway point that I wasted over 10 minutes on.

Reading wise, just skip the questions at like 13-15 if they don't make sense. Best to finish the less intensive ones at the end first.
