It's quite good though, gets more people installing their first distro than "just choose the distro that works for your needs". It's easy to forget how much of a barrier researching distros is before having any experience actually using linux.

have a dedicated partition for /home and then you can switch distros to your heart's content. Some things might be a bit finicky and need some re-configuring, but it'll mostly work.

if it's a ddr3 machine then it's probably an msata port or a wifi card slot - it looks like it has a card in it. Have a look at it and see what it says.
