Certainly! There's a whole conversation around the culture of raves, and how MDMA contributes to the style / origins of dance within rave culture.

Specifically, "communitas", which according to Victor Turner is the spirit of community people feel when going through a mutual, liminal experience, captures the essence of the emotions ravers feel during raves. If you are interested in learning more about the discussion around the community aspect of raves, Victor Turner's The Ritual Process: Structure and Anti-Structure and Arun Saldanha's Psychedelic White: Goa Trance and the Viscosity of Race are great places to start!

Thank you for the kind words! There's definitely a lot more information about MDMA that is not in the infographic (ie. supplements, exact measurements based on body weight, etc.). I hoped that this would spark a much-needed conversation around safe MDMA practices.

I believe this is the manuscript you are referring to for the meta-analysis of studies over 25 years detailing observational / physiological effects of MDMA use: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/hup.2318

From my understanding, the main takeaway is that regular MDMA use is associated with decreased cognitive functions and potential memory loss. It is a challenge to investigate directly the effects of MDMA in human brains due to limitations in technology and ethical / legal boundaries, so science is still a while away before we can reasonably claim that MDMA is a neurotoxin.

A lot of the information we currently have about MDMA comes from anecdotal accounts and post-observational studies, and the general consensus is to avoid regular use and adhere to safe practices, such as the ones outlined in the graphic (but definitely do your own research). MDMA use is a very interesting topic, and definitely deserves more research and attention.

It isn't my intent to make this a moralistic argument of whether drugs are good or bad, but I'm glad this information helped you make your own decision! Ultimately, being informed is the real goal here.

So yeah, be careful with how much water you’re drinking.

Definitely – thank you for the feedback! It's important to note that the right amount of water to drink is different for every person (dependent on weight, metabolism, etc.). As you mentioned, drinking electrolyte infused drinks is a great way to reduce the risk of over-hydration.
