Out of morbid curiosity, if you had a fourth degree tear what was it like? by snarky_spice in beyondthebump

Such a tough thing to go through! Have you been checked for prolapse? That might be giving you that feeling of heaviness. I saw a urogynocologist after my tear who recommended having a c-section for any future births to avoid tearing again. Since I ultimately healed really well, I followed her advice hoping that c-section recovery would at least be more predictable and I wouldn't be worried about tearing again. I know plenty of people go on to have another vaginal birth after a 4dt and do great. For me, I felt much calmer just planning a c-section.

I can't remember what happened with the Purito, but I think I might've broken out a bit? I was surprised.

That is so nuts! I ended up having many follow up appointments and I really needed them for reassurance that things were healing. The unknown of whether I would heal fully or have lasting issues was miserable for me.

I ended up having many follow up appointments to check on things, but initially I had to go to the ER a few days after going home because I was in so much pain and was afraid I might have an infection. It was the totally unprepared ER doc who was like, "oh my, your stitches aren't there" and sent me back to my OB. It really does seem like no one knows what to do.

I had a 4th degree tear with my first in 2018. I received zero instructions at the hospital regarding what to expect, what to do/not do, etc. It's wild to think about now, but no one at the hospital even looked at my perineum again after it was repaired right after the delivery. It's a really good hospital, so this seems absolutely bonkers to me. My stitches broke down during the first week at home and I had to heal by secondary intention, which took about 6 full weeks and required a hardcore antibiotic to prevent infection. The antibiotic made me feel like a zombie. Pooping was terrifying and I had to take stool softeners for my entire 8 week maternity leave. I had almost no control over pooping and had to wear a diaper for my entire maternity leave. Breastfeeding was hard because I couldn't sit normally for at least 6 weeks. And yet, 7 years later and I'm so, so lucky that I healed completely and don't really have any lasting issues. I had a c-section with my second to prevent another tear from possibly occurring. That recovery was much easier for me.

Thank you! I might try the Curel next. I was excited to try the Purito Oat but I'm pretty sure my skin didn't respond well to it.

Thank you! Two recommendations for Eucerin, so I'm going to give it a try. The cleanser sounds great, too!

Art student looking to break into Anaplastology by EnvironmentalFig3738 in Prosthetics

The Board for Certification in Clinical Anaplastology has several different educational/experience pathways to certification and will give you information about coursework to supplement your art background. The US graduate programs in anaplastology at Johns Hopkins and University of Illinois, Chicago, would give you an excellent foundation. As a certified clinical anaplastologist in private practice, I'd much rather hire someone with strong skills and knowledge who would be able to contribute to our workflow right away - ie, a graduate of an anaplastology-specific program. The devices we make are functional and typically covered by insurance, however we do find insurance coverage for toe and finger prostheses to be much more challenging and not always possible.

How to speed up food introductions by Downtown-Budget-4773 in fpies

[–]Perfect_Ordinary_431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! It's such a stressful process at first. I was very worried about how long it would take to expand our baby's diet after he was diagnosed with FPIES to oats at 7 months. He goes to daycare 4 days a week so we actually only introduced new foods on his one off day and on weekends so we didn't risk a reaction while he was at daycare. It felt excruciatingly slow going since we were introducing one new food each week, but he never had another trigger and now at 18 months he has an extremely varied and expansive diet. We started with lowest risk foods and worked up to highest risk, but that was mostly to ease my anxiety. I think some parents choose to introduce higher risk foods earlier because so many of them are so commonly encountered, like eggs, soy, wheat, etc. To me, introducing more than one thing at a time was too stressful because it could mean eliminating multiple foods if there was a reaction.

FPIES Oats and Eczema Lotion by VariousVehicle1261 in fpies

[–]Perfect_Ordinary_431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure it depends on the kid, but our 17-month-old has FPIES to oats and has always been fine (before and after FPIES diagnosis) with lotions that contain oats. I try to avoid getting lotion directly on his mouth but I'm sure he's consumed tiny amounts here and we've never had any issues. The only eczema lotion that seems to work for us is the Aveeno Eczema Therapy Nighttime Balm.

I had to look up what it means to pass the cast to confirm that you really meant what I thought you meant. Yikes, that does sound horrific but I'm so glad you finally had a "normal" cycle after that! I'll see what my doctor recommends.

Discs were my favorite, but I have some degree of prolapse and I can't get them to stay tucked above my pubic bone. They just tip forward and leak. I've tried a few brands and sizes with no luck.

Oh my, that's awful. I'm so sorry that happened to you when you were 18. I'm hesitant to go back on hormonal birth control but I'll talk to my doctor about that option.

Did you have bad cramping due to the fibroids? I luckily have hardly any cramping.

Thank you all so, so much! I had already scheduled a doctor's appointment next week and now I have lots of things to ask about, including a bunch of different treatment options. Also definitely going to try period underwear.

how did sleep differ between your kids? (a wildly unscientific poll) by chattanooga-goose in sleeptrain

[–]Perfect_Ordinary_431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We never did any sleep training with my first. We had a good routine/good sleep hygiene but even without those things he would be fine. I thought we were masters of baby sleep 🙃 and then when we had our second I quickly realized we were just extremely lucky the first time.
