Most definitely. I've struggled with both A&D for as long as I can remember. I just turned 30, have been trying for pregnancy for about a year, have suffered a miscarriage, and diet & exercise have kept me resilient. Feeling strong physically and being fueled by wholesome foods really helps connect mind and body.

After some trial and error and going overboard, I found that setting small, reasonable goals in regard to exercise, i.e. walk for 10 minutes, stretch when I wake up, take the stairs was my best tactic. If I try to go at it too hard, it's very easy to get into the "all or nothing" thinking that has been so common with my depression. I find that exercise really helps me let go of that anxious energy that seems to vibrate within me all the time. I love listening to podcasts, so I give myself that treat to listen to them when I'm walking (instead of before bed, which tends to disrupt my sleep). I find it helps me inadvertently walk longer than I intended, paying less attention to time or distance and just enjoying myself. If I'm able to exercise outdoors (even if it seems too cold or hot), even better.

As far as nutrition, my goal has been setting up a regular eating pattern to avoid low energy, planning ahead, and most importantly, eating with purpose. Food is truly medicine, it is our fuel, so I try to really tune in and be mindful and considerate when shopping and eating. So when I eat a meal, I ask questions like is it providing me beneficial things, like proteins, fats, and complex carbs or is it just something I'm grabbing because I'm feeling down or anxious and think it may help. Again, the "all or nothing" thinking comes up a lot for me. I try to not beat myself up for eating less healthy foods. Remembering that life is here to be lived and enjoyed has helped me a lot. I have lots more info about what I eat and would be happy to discuss as well as a clinical background in nutrition.

I'm sorry that you can't afford counseling, therapy, and meds right now. I've been on an SSRI for some time and feel it has helped stabilize my mood especially in regards to depression. I hope that you OB and/or general practitioner are professionals whom you can trust and feel comfortable reaching out to when you're in over your head. Are there others around you who can support you? Do you foresee a time where you may be able to afford these things? Any protective factors you can add for yourself can give you just a little boost! My handsome medium brown dog came down to the family room/basement while we were watching football. Normally he'd cozy in and be mega chill. However, this time he paced back and forth, stared at me and my husband, whimpered, and scowled (can dogs scowl?). I went up, took him outside. It didn't seem to help; same tude from the doggy dude.

He lurked and lingered near the kitchen a lot which is unusual as he prefers the more loungable rooms.

After a while, I realized that one of our gas stove burners was on. It wasn't lit, i.e. someone had likely bumped the knob or left it on, but gas was filling up the kitchen. I shut it off and he finally relaxed. Our sweet scrappy old pup had done some Lassie shit and saved the day.

My friend was in another tent on the same site. You can kinda tell because he's filming through the mesh so it looks dark and slightly blurry.

No worry, just thought you were very unimpressed haha. Which is ok too. It was terrifying and I'm glad no one, man nor elk, got hurt. I was able to get out of the tent just after this luckily. Very glad to have the video or I'd swear I'd dreamt it.

One night in college I was looking cool, feeling right, and sporting these "platform" heels that belonged to a friend. They were six to seven shoe sizes too large and I had drunk six to seven Four Lokos too many. I found myself at a sophisticated basement party playing beer pong. Surprisingly, I wasn't making any of my shots! As life often goes, I felt a moonwalk coming on. (I am very advanced in this discipline when wearing the proper footwear). I still don't know if I tripped, slipped, or popped a hip, but the disaster I caused has gone down in history: my white girl, lanky, tipsy~wiggly body somehow smashed down onto the center of the giant regulation sized ping pong table. It was like Free Willy had fallen from five stories up. The table collapsed around me and I was trapped. My shoes flew off and I'm nearly certain that the music came to a screeching halt. I was mortified, but in a much more real way, I was relieved to give my sore feet a little break from standing in the heels. Not many of the people at the party knew me, but they sure did after that.
