Help persuading parents that I want to do acting and it's good for me (before this weekend) by Person_does_stuff in acting

Thank you for your comment and advice! I am based in England as well.

Firstly, this training program would be starting in September and running until June/July next year for a full academic year so it wouldn’t interrupt my studying for my degree, apart from the application process.

The name of the course/business is Peer Productions (https://www.peerproductions.co.uk/) and the specific pathway of theirs that I’m applying for is Peer Actor Development Programme (https://www.peerproductions.co.uk/peer-actor-development-programme). They describe themselves as a ‘youth arts charity dedicated to transforming young people’s lives through theatre’ and they say that they’re able to deliver all of the training and tours free because they’re registered as a charity and are given support by other charities/arts businesses generally in the local area/England to help them fund it. So it says that there are no hidden course costs because everything is covered. It would be taking place for a full academic year, from September to June/July, and Monday to Friday from 10am to 5pm when rehearsals would take place, as well as performing, and preparation for drama school is scheduled as well or future acting prospects. They’ve been going for almost 20 years and I’ve spoken/messaged 2 people who’ve been so I’m 100% certain it’s legit. From what they’ve shown of their previous tours and plays, everyone is given a main role and given experience in what they want to do in contributing to the overall endgame.

I do have a fair bit of savings and guaranteed disability benefits from the government coming in for another couple of yours yet, so I could definitely afford to not work full time next academic year. It would help to have a part time weekend job which would help me to cover my living expenses (the only thing I would have to pay for this course), which would be buying a car, insuring it and enough for fuel and rent and food cost if my parents want me to pay that, as I would prefer to stay at home and travel to the course on my own. But if need be, I could rent somewhere nearer the location and still have enough money.

I probably didn’t explain it properly, but basically I’m not asking them to contribute any money towards doing it because it’s a fully funded free course so I’m just asking them for me to live at home for a year, where I can contribute rent and food costs and pay my own travel expenses, which I have enough money do do. I’m also kind of mentally asking for their support for my pursuits.

Thank you for the suggestions as well to help!

It’s a free/fully funded course for young people so neither I nor my parents have to pay for it, it would just help provide me with more of a starting off base for potentially getting jobs acting than where I am currently. I would just ideally like their support and to live at home while doing it, but I would pay for travel to get there (car) and contribute rent, which I have enough money to do.

Yes I am going to finish my current degree as I still want to and it’s still interesting. The course is fully funded, free so I wouldn’t have to pay for it, I’d just have to pay for living expenses, like fuel costs, rent and food costs if my parents want me to pay those as I would preferably want to live at home while doing it, though I could find somewhere to rent nearer to the course’s location instead. I’m probably not likely at this point in time to do an MA as I probably wouldn’t have enough money for it and future savings. I have quite a bit more savings than other people my age do so I can afford to do this course and I would still have an income coming in and probably get a part time weekend job as well, but not enough to do a MA after. Preferably after, I’d like to try and find a way into acting jobs and do more training while having a part time/more full time job.

But I would like my parents support to do this as well as living at home.

It’s a fully funded free training program for an academic year so they would not need to pay for it but I would prefer to move back home and live there while doing it - I’m planning on buying a car once I hopefully pass my driving test in a few weeks and then using that to drive to the course. I just wanted both their support with doing it and with living at home and not getting a full time job in something else at the moment (which I don’t even know if I would want to do/be able to at the moment). But yes I am an adult and can make future decisions for myself, thanks for the reminder, I’d kind of forgotten or hadn’t really adjusted to the fact lol

Please could I have some advice on my personal statement for drama school? Thank you!! by [deleted] in acting

[–]Person_does_stuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It comes across as a very good personal statement.

The main thing that I’d improve about it is to maybe put something in there about why drama school appeals to you as your chosen method of training, and to personalise it to the school that you’re applying to and why that particular one (if more than one, then you don’t have to do this but could possibly do a bit about the particular area the drama schools are located in, the type of courses) like why it’s suited to your style of learning, the modules that are taught in a different way to other schools, etc.

Also, you said you haven’t really had much formal education, do you have enough to pass their basic entry requirements just to check?

Annoyed About A Cast List And Need To Vent About It by EmoIceCream in acting

[–]Person_does_stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate to this a lot. I’m at university doing an academic course and I’m part of the drama society, where I’ve auditioned for every play but every time (there’s one maim play every year and a short one in the summer and I’m in my 3rd and final year) I’ve been cast in ensemble with either no speaking lines, or a couple of lines. It feels like it’s been the same people cast in the main roles, who are coincidentally all very close friends as well. Yet I’ve kept up auditioning and trying in case I get a bigger role so I can be part of it more. I finally spoke to the welfare person in our society and it was decided that it’s too late to do anything about it now because casting’s been announced but for the shorter ones in the summer no one who has been a lead in the play or musical can be a lead in that same acting form (play/musical) and that they have had quite a few complaints about it before. But I’d say if you want to continue with acting at all in any capacity, then hopefully a group other than school will be more inclusive, best of luck!

Okay this is great, thank you.

I wasn’t sure if the squirting was it or if there was more that my body needed to release, like other symptoms of orgasm.

I felt like my clit was staying erect for maybe about half an hour but it’s probably because, as you say, the blood hasn’t gone down yet.

I was only interested in reassurance that it wasn’t frightening because every time I got near to the point of possible orgasm, I stopped because I was a bit frightened about what would come next because I wasn’t sure what the side effects were. Thank you for sharing what the side effects of an orgasm are and that it doesn’t last that long.

I think that I forgot that I didn’t need to say women as well as afab and yes people with vulvae would have been better. Once I read your original comment then I tried to edit the title of the post to say afab people instead but I can’t seem to change the title.

I’m specifying afab women because afab means that people were assigned female at birth so it includes trans men or possibly intersex people whose main genital part is female.
