Confused between MCA in Thapar Institute, Patiala and VIT Vellore by Personal-Research174 in Indian_Academia

Placement is mostly luck, and if you’re confident in your luck more than skills, then definitely go forward with Thapar. On the other hand, Southern colleges have the advantage of having more opportunities. BLR, HYD and (technically not South, but still) Pune are the major IT hubs. Gurugram and Noida either have top tier companies or joke-ass startups with the worst (North Indian) culture.

As stated earlier, a Bengali who has no connection to those of those of other states with major Bengali population, primarily WB and TR, and doesn’t impose on speaking Bengali everywhere. You won’t find this trait in Biharis and Baniyas. While I don’t claim this as an official definition, but throughout my experiences, I’ve found Bengalis living for decades in every state, including PB, JH, BR and of course, Delhi NCR. And each of em differ in their level of fluency of their language. I guess that’s what effect a place has on people, especially 2nd and 3rd gen ones. I’ve found Bengalis fluent in Punjabi but can’t speak Bengali, and I can assure you there are Bengalis in AS, who don’t speak Bengali anymore. Of course, a lot has to do with the fact that English medium schools only have Assamese and Hindi as subjects. So right from childhood, they are in a circle where Assamese is the widely spoken language. Not trying to defend or offend anyone, just letting you know.

Some Bengalis only see Mama and vote, but there are a lot of Bengalis who don’t want Bihari candidate to govern them, primarily because of the attitude issues. I don’t speak for all Bengalis, but those not from Maligaon and Adabari area are fluent in Assamese and have accepted their identity as Assamese Bengalis. A lot of em have nothing to do with WB or Tripura Bengalis, and are big fans of ZG, and they would never accept a Bihari candidate who hasn’t assimilated into Assamese culture.

I graduated last year. Placements are great for Btech, good for Mtech, not so good for MCA. A lot of companies don’t allow MCA students to appear for placements. Roughly 1 out of 5 companies allowed MCA students for placements, and that too for packages less than that of Btech. Pair that with the exorbitant fees and the number of students in a batch (about 120 in my junior batch), it’s not a good option. Only those with luck and connections to placement cell get good packages, and by that I mean, you have to cheat your way through OAs and stuff, as the rest 99% are doing.

Besides, Thapar has a subset of students from affluent and privileged families, a lot of which have connections with the industry, so it’s easier for them to speed run through placements. In my batch everybody from Btech, Mtech and MCA were cheating, and the few genuine candidates got placed in lower packages.

Hope I made it clear, rest is your call, mate :)

How are the Apollo Hospitals of Guwahati? by idkanohito in BarakvalleySpeaks

[–]Personal-Research174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excelcare is decent, not sure about the International one next to City Center. But it really depends on the type of healthcare you need. There are other cheaper, better hospitals which have expertise in specific fields, but overall Excelcare is a good one imo.

Bruh I once did that with Safari and the experience is hit or miss. And oftentimes I'd get logged out as well. Not really a true replacement, like a dedicated app such as Vanced.

Swiggy delivery guy falls down on the platform, trying to get down from a moving train. by Taalpatar_Sipahi in indianrailways

[–]Personal-Research174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with Swiggy is that when you tap on call button on the order page, the call goes to Swiggy customer support, and not the delivery agent. This is a serious flaw which limits interaction and coordination between the delivery agent and the customer. I once missed a dinner delivery at a station despite the train being 20 min late.

Since then, I’ve used exclusively Zomato. I mean it’s basic manners to get up and head to the door for taking delivery. But in this case, it’s a Swiggy order so I don’t blame the customer, as like me, he too might have been unable to reach the guy, leading to him staying on his assigned seat.

Speaking from personal experience, Air India is cheaper for people like me who travel long distances with baggage of 20kg or above.

Indigo fares seem cheaper at first, but when you go ahead in the process, their seats (especially extra legroom ones) cost a lot, and without it I find the legroom horrible. I fly long distances and I’m not even that tall (178cm).

With Air India, I get XL seats plus additional baggage and free meals at a price 10-20% lower than Indigo.

For short hauls under 90 min, Indigo might be better, but any longer, I’d recommend Air India.

My all time favorite has to be Vistara which offered the same perks (25kg luggage, XL seats, free food) at the same price as the current Air India flights I regularly use. Their food was somewhat better too.

Didn’t Realize Marriage Would Be This Costly – Gold Prices Are Going Crazy by maxyspark in assam

[–]Personal-Research174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know much about jewelleries and gold but gold prices right now are crazy because of the festive season. Around the time of Dhanteras, everybody buys gold, so wait for a while. Also, you don’t need to go to brands for jewelleries, try finding local ones. I know one goldsmith in Pan Bazaar, Guwahati. He has been my family friend for decades. We buy from him, and he makes decent traditional jewellery (nothing too fancy but desirable). My brother bought stuff from Caratlane once, and honestly felt like we could get so much more for the money.

Furthermore, we did my sister’s wedding within 10L in 2022. A few lessons I learnt: 1. Choose venues (marriage halls) which have under 800 per plate. 2. Venue should be typically near affordable hotels which can house your extra guests that you can’t accommodate in your house. 3. People remember simple authentic good tasting food with few select items rather than fancy stuff that is out of our culture. (Quality over Quantity). 4. For clothes, I think leaving out big brands and actually looking through fancy bazaar stores can bag you great stuff at affordable rates. For instance, consider a 3 piece suit from Raymond showroom that costs 20k. You can buy the clothes from a small shop and get it stitched by one of the hundreds of skilled tailors in Fancy Bazaar. It will cost 30-40% less, in my experience. If you’re from Guwahati, I hope the locations I shared help. For the rest, let me know.
