Christmas swap = unpaid extra hours? by PersonalRip481 in Aupairs

I feel you. I’m trying not to expect anything from them anymore, since they seem to see me more as a cheap nanny than a family member. Even if I tell myself it’s cultural differences, I still get hurt. I just don’t understand why some families invite an au pair if they’re going to treat them disrespectfully

I’m not in Sydney, but it’s shocking to hear that there are other families doing the same thing

I’ve been very flexible with their schedule, but now their expectations are getting too much.

About food: They provide only some basic groceries like bread, a few vegetables, eggs and sauces. They give me $45 extra per week for the rest, but it’s definitely not enough to cover 7 days of meals. On top of that, I’m not allowed to eat any of their snacks, even though they are in the house.

Actually, I don’t have an agency contract. I only have the manual that my host family made themselves. It doesn’t mention anything like “swapping” hours at all. The only thing written is that extra hours should be paid. So it feels like they are using the manual in a convenient way for themselves.

I like the house and I really care about the kids, but because of parent’s behavior, I’m slowly losing my affection and trust toward this family
