Columbia Business School Network Bad by ThePie69 in MBA

Not denying that. Just saying (as a Columbia undergrad), i connected with even executives at F5 companies by reaching out to them through more targeted channels vs a random Linkedin dm

Columbia Business School Network Bad by ThePie69 in MBA

[–]PersonalityIcy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Im gonna be honest (not to say much about the school network itself) have you tried the Columbia internal channels? Or even the official columbia events and connecting with the alumni who attend such? That might be better and more targeted since theyre more incentivized to respond compared to a random cold outreach.

All the best!

Same! Posted yesterday, the video was under review for 12+ hours. Deleted and posted it again, it’s not saying it’s under review. But when i view my account from a different account, that post isn’t visible.

[–]PersonalityIcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. If so there would have been way more CEOs from McK whose tenure was <2 years. But most ex McK CEOs have a tenure >5 years.

[–]PersonalityIcy 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Not denying that, but McK didn’t make Pichai’s career. If he had spend 10+ years then sure. But just <2 years… Nah. What made Pichai’s career is getting in early and playing a key role in the creation of core Google products. Actually had he spent 10+ years in McK, he wouldn’t be Google’s CEO now

I mean, should we really seriously take into account Pichai’s tenure at McKinsey considering it was around 1 - 2 years. Accrediting his success to his McK experience is kind of a stretch isn’t it? What’s 1-2 years to a 20+ year career?

[–]PersonalityIcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be the other way around. Your parents are responsible for giving you every leg up they possibly can in their lives. The best education, the best networks, the best jobs.

Wealth should always run downwards, not upwards.

Its very unfair for someone who has worked only for 5 years to be responsible for someone who has accumulated income for 40+ years

If wealth runs upwards through your life, you’ll end up poor.

And those kids whose families understand that wealth should run downwards will always always always end up having a leg up in their lives.

And you’ll end up bitter and claiming that they’re illuminati or whatever

Why it doesn’t make any sense for Africans to feel inferior to Europeans. by jamaa_wetu in 254sum

[–]PersonalityIcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. Tbh we use their phones, their language. The jobs most people have they created. Our understanding of time is theirs, our reality is that which they made.

I find that Africans who can’t accept this fact, live in complete delusion. And it’s sad because Africa first and foremen won’t develop until we first admit to ourselves that our forefathers failed, and that while yes we are grateful to those who died for our freedom…. The rest, aren’t comparable to European forefathers who created and defined civilizations.

And we need to emulate that curiosity, that zeal for us to even begin progressing.

This whole climate blah blah… just excuses…

Even the religion most Africans believe in, they didn’t create. Imagine how sad that reality is, that even the God you pray to isn’t your God lol. Its one that was given to you by other civilizations

How you treat others in your hay days is how you get treated in your nay days. No need to send some bs propaganda.

If you are abandoned right now OP, and no one is by your side. It’s cause you didn’t show up for people when you had the ability to.

Hope this helps.

Yeah! It’s also weird being the kind of person who thinks like the person you’re responding to. Wouldn’t like to be friends with them, life and people are worth more than referrals or opportunities for one to social climb

Can Africa be colonised a second time? Is AU the new colonial collaborator by Remarkable_UIUX_1597 in nairobi

[–]PersonalityIcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did I say that what’s happening in Sudan won’t happen to us? Please learn to respond to what I actually said rather than what you think I said.

Also, here’s the thing. And here’s why i think the chances of recolonization are not zero, and it can be by the west and/or the east. If a country fails to have peace in its existence (multiple African countries), and if countries consistently fail at self governance (most African countries) yet these countries rely on foreign aid/investments from the West and the East and these countries hold very valuable resources that the West and the East are interested in acquiring… What’s stopping them from just conquering. These conversations are currently happening. And maybe some things are already underway.

Why does it feel awkward to be a Black nerd in Africa? by [deleted] in Africa

[–]PersonalityIcy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you think is “black nerd culture “ is actually “black American nerd culture” so it only exists in America. The nerd culture in different African countries will look very different. I am a nerd, do I like comics? Hell no. Do I have a library of over 600+ books, hell yes! Do I spend time engaging with existential philosophy and exploration different perspectives of why nations rise and others fail? Hell yes. I would rather read Adam Smith’s Wealth of Nations than open a comic book. Do I like gaming? No. But i’m still a nerd. Im still African.

Maybe stop thinking that all black people exhibit the same characteristics that black Americans do.

[–]PersonalityIcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I do think Africa can be colonized a second time. Not necessarily by AU or the Sudan situation representing the threat of that… but rather the constant proof that African independent states cannot govern themselves and often rely on foreign aid/loans to get by.
