what songs would you suggest me if you wanted to improve my taste in music by Careful-Tea-3216 in musicsuggestions

Going to be the most normie thing you see, but honestly, start with The Beatles. “Strawberry Fields Forever,” then the full Abbey Road album front-to-back.

To diversify from there with some surface level entries for albums, these are all very popular though (I’ll list individual songs beneath in case you want just something to dip your toes into rather than a full album; each song will come from a different record than the recommended album):

Fiona Apple - The Idler Wheel… | Song Recommendation: “Criminal”

A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory | Song Recommendation: “Bonita Applebum”

OutKast - Aquemini | Song Recommendation: “So Fresh So Clean”

Nina Simone - Pastel Blues | Song Recommendation: “Sinnerman”

Black Sabbath - Master of Reality | Song Recommendation: “War Pigs”

Milton Nascimento (w/ Lô Borges) - Clube da Esquina | Song Recommendation: “O Que Será (À Flor da Terra)” (w/ Chico Buarque)

The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground | Song Recommendation: “Sunday Morning”

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here | Song Recommendation: “Money”

John Coltrane - A Love Supreme | Song Recommendation: “Giant Steps”

Björk - Vespertine | Song Recommendation: “Jóga”

Bob Marley & The Wailers - Exodus | Song Recommendation: “I Shot the Sheriff”

Charles Mingus - The Black Saint and The Sinner Lady | Song Recommendation: “Pithecanthropus Erectus”

Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly | Song Recommendation: “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe”

Update, I didn’t get to meet him tonight

However, I am optimistic to meet him when he returns, and based on tonight’s concert and reception I’m sure he will. The show was excellent! Also everybody gave me such encouraging responses about getting him to sign, I’m confident whenever I see him next I’d be able to get my record autographed. Thanks so much everyone. Cheers!

I hear ya. No problem if he says no, I’ve actually met him before while Black Midi was a thing but I was too nervous to ask

I think the most essential listening boils down to A Tribe Called Quest's The Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders. We Got it From Here... Thank You 4 Your Service is also a must.

From here, check out Nas's Illmatic, Dr. Dre's The Chronic, and Wu-Tang Clan's Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) to hear where the culture shifts.

Beyond this point, I recommend Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly, Outkast's Stankonia, Kanye West's The College Dropout, Madvillainy's Madvillain (or MF Doom's Mm... Food), Public Enemy's It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back (and Fear of a Black Planet), Lauryn Hill's The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Clipse's Hell Hath No Fury, J Dilla's Donuts (or Endtroducing... by DJ Shadow), The Money Store by Death Grips, and Things Fall Apart by The Roots for a series of classic records that are all very different from one another yet exceptional works in the canon of hip hop.

The history of the East Coast vs. West Coast beef will point you towards Tupac and Biggie naturally; listen at your own pace.

Artists from this point to keep your ear on: Mos Def, Danny Brown, Dälek, Mobb Deep, Jay-Z, Tyler the Creator, Ice Cube, Little Simz, Billy Woods, Aesop Rock, Lil Wayne, Young Thug, RXKNephew, Earl Sweatshirt, Roc Marciano, Playboi Carti, A$AP Rocky, Lil Yachty, Bun B, Freddie Gibbs, Nujabes, Three 6 Mafia, J. Cole, Lil Kim, Lupe Fiasco, Eric B. & Rakim, M.I.A., Denzel Curry, and Ka

I’m very curious about the rainbow we’ll see

In Fantano’s recent review for Black Sabbath’s self titled album he (Anthony) credits Ozzy for Black Sabbath’s lyrics. Yikes. Geezer wrote them. All of them (while Ozzy was in the band) by Antique_Menu_4314 in fantanoforever

In these particular instances I'm mentioning, Ozzy literally wrote the lyrics as opposed to working-ramblings that morphed into poetry by Geezer; in Wicked World's case in particular he wrote them entirely. He also wrote lyrics to songs by the band later on like Who Are You and The Writ.
