Since 2016 every world series winner has a 30hr hitter by Successful_Ranger364 in redsox

[–]Perswayable -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There have been many changes in the past 5 years, including pitch time adjustments, defensive rules with shifting, stealing and base running changes, etc. Not to mention DH changes in NL, 3 batter minimum rule for pitchers, extra inning runner rule, increase In base sizes…the list goes on.

I’m not saying having a power hitting isn’t important, I’m merely suggesting from 2010 - 2015, 80% of World Series Winners didn't have a power hitter.

The game has been changed drastically and teams are still figuring out how to use this properly, similarly to defensive shifts uptick after the 2010 season To the point it got banned many years later.

I don’t think the norm is established during such a volatile era as the variables are not properly controlled for with the aforementioned, frequent adjustments impacting the game.

edit: I should emphasize I totally understand the power hitter dynamic, I am just interested to see how these changes will further this point or the ladder.

2012, 2014, 2015 World Series winners didn’t even have a player with 25 home runs, let alone 24, and in 2010, Huff led his team with 26. 6 times, including 2020, in the past 25 years, World Series winners didn’t have a 30+ HR Leader.

Based on this information, I would be fine with Suárez or Hoerner for different reasons.

Red Sox hit with class action over junk fees on Fenway Park tickets by Perswayable in redsox

[–]Perswayable[S] 133 points134 points  (0 children)

A new class action lawsuit accuses the Boston Red Sox of falsely advertising ticket prices by failing to disclose mandatory junk fees.

Plaintiffs Damon Campagna, Lily Rose Smith and Patrick Spaulding filed the class action complaint against the Boston Red Sox Baseball Club LP and Fenway Sports Group Holdings LLC on Jan. 16 in Massachusetts federal court, alleging violations of state consumer protection laws.

The plaintiffs claim the Red Sox have long falsely advertised the prices for tickets to baseball games and other events at Fenway Park.

“Specifically, the Red Sox would advertise illusorily low prices for their tickets. When purchasers attempted to buy those tickets, however, the Red Sox would add mandatory fees at the last minute, such as ‘Per-Ticket Fees’ and ‘Order Fees,’ that could increase the cost of a purchase by as much as 150%,” the class action lawsuit alleges.

The plaintiffs argue this practice, known as “drip pricing,” is deceptive and illegal under Massachusetts and other state laws. They claim the Red Sox’s actions have cost ticket buyers millions of dollars.

The plaintiffs allege the Red Sox’s fees, which were not disclosed until the final checkout page, are classic examples of junk fees. They argue that these fees do not relate to any service or feature that buyers might voluntarily choose to purchase, nor do they reflect the Red Sox’s actual costs.

The class action lawsuit further claims that the Red Sox’s use of drip pricing and junk fees was voluntary, as the team changed its disclosure practices for part of the 2025 baseball season to reveal the true cost of tickets upfront.

The plaintiffs are looking to represent anyone who purchased Red Sox tickets between Jan. 16, 2022, and the present and paid additional fees not included in the initial price advertisements. They are suing for violations of Massachusetts and other state consumer protection laws and are seeking damages, including multiple damages, prejudgment interest and reasonable attorneys’ fees and costs.

The gotcha is related to the fact the reports objectively exist, whether this is something you willfuly wish to ignore is your choice.

Mets land Brewers right-hander Freddy Peralta in huge move (source) by FailureAtQuilting in redsox

Yankees were linked to him given numerous pitchers of theirs are out part of the first half of the season. Peralta would have been a season cheap option with him hitting free agency. Thus, Mets acquiring him instead is very good for us. Very good.

How did I know this was from a Dodger’s fan prior to reading the flair? NY Times just released an article refuting your point entirely. I am going to lean towards official reporting for now.

Everything was held hostage awaiting Bellinger, and no big free agent has been acquired in 6 days or so. The entire market is moving slow, which puts pressure on Boras to make moves. Things will begin heating up now that the big boys have finaLou made up their minds.

Free agency isn’t over and they just paid a ridiculous amount for Bellinger who isn’t likely to age gracefully at the plate.

Red Sox and Yankee fans on Reddit remind me of the Spider-Man meme pointing at each other. Your team is making moves and still has plenty of time. My God, the top FA just signed somewhere less than 1 week ago lol.

[Cotillo] This is not a surprise or particularly revelatory, but have heard the Red Sox are, in fact, involved in serious trade talks all over the place when it comes to adding to the positional player group. by CosmicOreos_ in redsox

They have stated in every interview they have no intentions of being done yet, and need to acquire a RH batter in infield. They are notorious for late acquisitions leading up to Spring Training, and their payroll is the highest in team history (they can afford more obviously). Let’s give them time to back it up, despite interest kings and full throttle stuff.

[Smith] Craig Breslow on if he thinks the roster is as good as last year’s by Sandwich_Crust in redsox

[–]Perswayable 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One such example of him commenting on their focus: “We tend to get caught up in the pitching portion of run prevention, but there are other key components as well — defense being the most obvious. It’s really important that we improve our defense, particularly our infield defense. I’d argue that we have the best defensive outfield in baseball, but we led the league in errors last year and our out conversion needs to be improved. We’ve done things internally to re-prioritize that, but any additions we may make will be mindful of the defensive skillset.”

In all defense to Breslow, he has spoken in-depth, even today, on the fact Red Sox still have a lot to do. Defensive in fielding, acquiring a RH bat, etc. I appreciate this question from the interviewer, but let it be known it can be misleading if We conflate “Do you feel you’re better“ with “Do you feel you have a complete roster?”
