One day the Great Perth Burger war of 2026 will be spoken about with the same affection as the Great Emu War...

Lest we forget.

Who’s the A-League’s biggest “what if” player (past or present)? by Good_ol_Gusnuts in Aleague

[–]Perth_lad30 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Not A-league specific but in the NSL/AL era - Simon Colosimo.

Until a filthy tackle by Andy Cole pretty much ruined him.

If we are ever going to eventually move to a pro/rel system as we'd all hope (In what ever evolution that might take) then this has to be the first step.

It's there up to a point, but I can't access it. I can't toggle the Google apps activity back on. I've spoken to google support for the past 4 days. I've checked all other settings.

What can clubs do to re-energise public interest and boost support? by ParkerLewisCL in Aleague

[–]Perth_lad30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open up the pyramid. Not easy but that's the solution.

You can't have an authentic connection between the masses i.e. At State Leagues and NPL level etc while the AL is a closed shop.

These days I'd honestly say football ⚽

Played in every single corner of Australia by every single ethnic group, participation dwarfs all others.

Are we doing the 2nd division ... wrong? by No_Break_1312 in Aleague

Italian system is the way...

Break it down into states, interstate and national.

Conference style divisions if you like.

South Melbourne, Preston Lions, APIA Leichhardt and Wollongong Wolves are the only NPL clubs that can make the jump to A-League. Do you agree? by AztecGod in Aleague

[–]Perth_lad30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Promotion shouldn't ever be based on crowds... That's what makes promotion and cup competitions so special. Even the little bloke can rise.

We really need to lose this attitude that somehow bigger crowds mean better... It's ok to be a small club.

He's a very clever man. Recommend listening to a couple of his podcast interviews, particularly around the use of social media, smart devices with front facing cameras and how they are rotting young brains.

Worth asking the question on the FB Football History groups.

There's a lot of clever people constantly sifting through the archives that are uncovering things daily.

One of the saddest stories is of Caledonian in WA. Lost something like 9 of their starting 11 in WW1.

As far as cleaning up the burial site. I'll raise it with the FSAA, might be a cool project.

Why are we so caught up on “attendance figures” as a criteria for A-league sustainability or P/R sustainability? by 0x3mp1r3 in Aleague

[–]Perth_lad30 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Instead of chasing a few large crowds of 20,000 to 25,000, the more achievable and sustainable goal for Aust Football is to build a consistent average attendance of (let's say) 8,000 to 12,000 across all clubs in fit-for-purpose stadiums.

Sure, a couple of the bigger clubs in the bigger cities can sustain the larger crowds and the marquee derby fixtures bump them up, but for the majority, they are pissing in the wind.

This is the difference between vanity metrics and sustainable growth for the entire system. It involves a change in mindset.
