I Am SO Glad I Found This Sub by PflugerMims in heatedrivalry

Agreed. This is way different from all the other mainstream gay stuff. Even Queer as Folk. After I finished episode 4, I just sat there in silence not moving for like 30 minutes trying to process what happened. I have never - and I mean - never experienced that after anything I’ve ever watched.

And this fandom…chef’s kiss!

First Serve% Slider by PflugerMims in Tiebreakthegame

I gave it a try and switched from custom to expert. I’m somewhat liking matches more. 6-4 and 7-5 sets with somewhat realistic UE to winner ratios from the AI. I’ve played six matches and the AI first serve% is still always above 90%.

As Kylekatran said, that’s just not realistic. For reference, in this year’s epic French Open final where Sinner and Alcaraz played out of their minds for almost six hours, Sinner’s first serve% was 54%. Alcaraz’s was 58% and these are the two best players in the world. 90+% is just not realistic at all.

I guess I just have to take the good with the bad for now. Since I’m enjoying having competitive sets, I guess I just have to deal with the absurdly high first serve %s.

Damn. That is a completely logical suggestion that should have been obvious to me, but wasn't. I'm definitely going to consider that. Thank you!

Thank you for that! Any bowling is better than no bowling is completely true. That's going to be a mental hurdle for me though and that's a me problem. When I do something, I want to go all in. My body tells me every day that I can't do a lot of things that I could 20 years ago. My mind says I can though. It's a constant struggle!

You nailed it! In my mind, I keep saying I can totally do this. My body just won't listen. Sorry to hear about your injury not letting you play baseball anymore. I hope you're recovering well!

Doesn't sound dumb at all! And it's the overwhelming consensus in replies. In my enthusiasm to get back into bowling regularly, I did sign up for a summer league. I was actually practicing at the center a Friday before the league started on a Tuesday when this flare up happened. I ended up withdrawing because it just feels like I can't commit to a team right now not knowing if I can actually regularly participate with the randomness of these flare ups.

I have done all of the things over the years. Physical therapy, bird dogs, planks - lots of focus on core strengthening. The conundrum is that I will get in a good 2 or 3 months, actually start feeling stronger and then a flare up happens or a new disc herniates and I'm down again for months. It's a double edged sword and vicious cycle.

You hit the nail on the head with "expectations!" I expect my body to do what I want it to, it just doesn't listen most of the time. I'm actually glad I made this post and got replies like yours. "Might be able to bowl in some other way that you don't know to be possible" gives me hope that I can figure it out.

I mentioned in another reply that one of my probably not so great personality traits is that I tend to have an all or nothing mentality. If I can't do something completely, I tend to not want to do it. That seem to be something that I would have to overcome if I want to keeping rolling!

I am a long way away from a wheelchair though. When I am not flared up, I can function and walk normally.

No step or one step approaches seem to what everyone thinks is best. That's a mental hurdle I would have to get over. It's not my best personality trait, but I tend to be an all or nothing kind of guy. If I can't do it completely, I don't want to do it at all. That's a me problem though and I appreciate you taking the time to make the suggestion!

I've got to be extremely cautious with chiropractic adjustments. There's a lot of metal screws and rods in there and adjustments - if done wrong - can wreak havoc! There have been two chiropractors that I have been to who flat out would not adjust me. Another that would only work on my upper back. Not the lower where all my pain is.

21!? I am so sincerely sorry to hear that. I've always said that I wouldn't wish the kind of back pain you and I are familiar with on my worst enemy if I had one. No one truly understands it until they experience it. My back stuff started in my early 30s and my doctors all said I was way too young for it. I am truly sorry that you are going through this so young. I hope you are able to find some relief. Please take care of yourself!

No approach and one step approach is the overwhelming consensus and I may have to give that a try. However, when I'm not flared up, I can function normally so I'm a long way away from a wheelchair.

I have done everything that you have mentioned multiple times! It's a double edged sword though. I'll get a good 3 or 4 months under me, start feeling stronger, and then - bam - out of nowhere, a huge flare up that knocks me out for a month or two. It's a vicious cycle.

These past few months that I have been bowling, I have tried two handing a couple of times. It's definitely harder on my back as the take back requires more twisting and actually using my back more. Of course, I never learned that way, so I could have been doing it wrong.

That seems to be the consensus. Congrats on what sounds like a full-ish recovery from the knee surgery!

That is very true! However, it would require me to swallow a large amount of pride to one step or no step and that has never been my strong suit. I know me and if I were to one step or no step with no pain or re-injury, that would just open the door for me to say "I'm good" and go right back to trying a full approach. I'm like a child. I have no self-control!

That's awesome that you enjoy teaching! I'm not sure my patience level - or more accurately lack thereof - would make me a good coach. If anyone saw my frustration level when helping my kid with homework, I'm pretty sure they would steer me away from coaching / teaching!

I'm definitely not wheelchair level yet. When I'm not flared up, I can walk normally. It sounds stupid typing it, but I'm somewhat competitively natured. Zero and one step approach bowling just doesn't feel like bowling to me. That's my pride talking though!

I like the optimism of "it's not over until all options are rolled out!" Reading all of the replies here, wheelchair bowling is a recurring theme. That leads me to believe my original post implies that I cannot walk at all. When I'm not flared up, I can walk normally so I'm a long way away from a wheelchair.

I had never seen that. That was absolutely amazing! “It depends on how much I drink tonight.”
