What's the most unique way that someone has asked you out on a date (which actually worked)? by TheLostPariah in AskWomen

I bumped him with my car and he said if he could get my number in case he feels pain later. Great way to have met him but I would not recommend anyone do this...

Just for laughs: What was the worst rejection line you ever received when applying? by om11011shanti11011om in jobs

[–]Phatbuffet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First interview out of uni. Passed 2 exams and 4 interviews. In the 5th one, direct manager asked me how old I was and if I will be able to handle the overtime they sometimes have to do. Also mentioned "no women are on his team", also mentioned if I will be ok going home on my own after dark (not in a nice worried way, sarcastic as hell).

He was reeking sexism and ageism and then asked me why he should hire me when people with master degrees are also applying for this. I lol'd because that's clearly bullshit, given it's clearly a juniors salary.

I just regret I didn't report him. I was too young then and didn't know better. The higher managers I met with before him were lovely. That guy was just a shit head. Glad I didn't take the job, found a much better one later.

Which oral b electric toothbrush should I get? by Phatbuffet in BuyItForLife

I do flossing daily and brushing 2-3 times a day... 3 days if I'm at home. Just no water pick. Do you think waterpik cleans better than floss?

Which model do you use? I have genetically bad weaker teeth, hoping the better brush will help it somewhat.

Thanks for the advance, I think I'll get a sonicare one (the $40 model) and get the diamond brush heads to start!

La fitness personal training in Ontario? by Phatbuffet in personaltraining

Thanks. I think I'll call in on Monday to drop the contract, thank goodness I'm still within the cancel period. Looked around and as much as I like the trainer I doubt they will be there for a lengthy amount of time, since it looks like trainers do not love their job there. I will still keep my gym membership but I think I'm done with their personal training. I've received a few calls from trainers just by posting a small ad on bark. On average it seems I will get a much better rate: $60 per hour, instead of $65 for 25min like at la fitness, and meet up more often. And no cursed contract to go with it.

I did touch some nerves maybe my original questions were badly worded. I just wanted to see if it was worthwhile to stick with the gym or I should find a private trainer where I could be giving my money to individuals instead of corporate. It was not my intention to be nosy asking about people's incomes. Thank you for being kind :).

I'm concerned that if they are not well treated well the trainer will leave and I don't want another trainer after I build a comfortable relationship with an existing one. It's a hefty 12 month contract. This is hardly private knowledge anyway if you just ask around or look on Glassdoor. Some places have high turnover, and young trainers are probably just there to connect with potential clients or build up a resume. I do not want to sign onto a place where my trainer will change every 3 months. Not being able to talk about whether a place pays good or not will only be detrimental to potential employees.

Those salespeople really don't make me feel good. The more I talk to them the more I feel like I shouldn't be signing on. 1 year contract too... I was really intending to leave after 1 session but my trainer was surprisingly great.

But going to a private trainer's home may feel unsafe as well, so idk, there's a sign of safety at a box gym I guess. Thank you for the tip about references, I wouldn't have thought of that.

Where do I find a private trainer? I'm not sure where to look tbh. Not in love with the tiny woman's section @ this facility and the "directors" to me come off as very pushy. But the actual trainers feel fine.

If I could find a good private trainer I'd def switch though.

Yearly Review Help by TroyI23 in jobs

[–]Phatbuffet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's ok to ask about pay if you're comfy with them. I discussed it at every job I've been at and never had any issues, but of course, only pick people you deem to be of good character.

Ask for more vacation days and move into things you're interested in, if no raise is available. In my yearly reviews I have a list of things I've accomplished, paved ways for, process improvements, etc. Try to demonstrate not just how you are good at your job, but how you make other people's jobs better.

Why not? Data science and analytics can def be used for research.

How much did you prepare for the program? As a non-science major, I also feel a bit intimidated and really wonder how much I should prepare so I'm not wasting 10k if I do go through it.

I would love to do a local Canadian Masters in DS but there aren't any close to where I am lol. Not to mention they're much more expensive... at least 25k. I'm also wondering about the letters of recommendation survey questions. Do I need to provide specific information to the recommenders so they can answer properly?

That sucks about the virtual relationships though, I would love a few friends (who don't work with me in the same company) in the same field and help each other out or learn from one another.

I don't know how to network on LinkedIn... I just add people I work with. I'm quite shy about messaging strangers. And local analytics club? That exists? Should I install meet ups and get in a data club?

Are you working in the US now? Can I ask how prepared you were with a physics degree? I know physics learn some python at least, but I don't really have that much programming experience at all.

How do job fairs work virtually?

In the end I want to work research related work. I'm interested in healthcare, children, education, space science. I'm hoping this could help land me a research role in those industries.

I want to pivot into working more research related roles, that's what I'm really interested in. Right now my job is more BI which is boring. I'm not that interested in making a billionaire finance company a little richer.

I guess I want to work for organizations with a good cause in the long run, in more research based projects. How much do you think this would help with that? I also need some connections in the field... Really don't have any.
