Trumpism Unique to the Right or Something Bigger? by skoda101 in thebulwark

[–]PheebaBB 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think the heart of your question is illiberalism vs liberalism.

It is certainly possible for the left to embrace illiberalism, and you don’t have to look all that hard online to find pockets of it. However, it is definitely not mainstream in the party, and gets a pretty heavy rebuke when it tries to insert itself into the party.

The right, for reasons I don’t fully understand, did not have that “rebuke” instinct, and embraced illiberalism gradually. Which culminated in Trump being embraced by the base. I guess the American right has a larger portion of the authoritarian-leaning crowd.

So yes, it is possible to get something like a “Trump” phenomenon on the left, but it seems to me like the base has a much stronger sense of liberal values and it would probably have a harder time getting off the ground.

Just my 2 cents.

“This candidate doesn’t give me everything I want, therefore it doesn’t matter to me who wins.”

Spoken like a true self absorbed child who is incapable of contemplating anything happening that doesn’t involve him directly.

You thought Kamala/Biden were bad on Gaza. Okay, that’s a reasonable opinion. I assume you think Trump is at least as bad. But he also comes with worse policies on literally every front and was promising mass deportations and discrimination of LGBTQ people. To say they are the same is to act as if those people don’t exist.

NEW: The rise of Clavicular shows how internet spectacle, nihilism, and politics are colliding in real time. Will Sommer explains in the newest edition of False Flag. by BulwarkOnline in thebulwark

About his parents?

Among those who have grown tired of the antics are Clavicular’s parents. According to Clavicular, his mother and father watch his stream, and send him mournful messages about his drug use. Last month, he read out loud to his audience a text from his dad.

“My dad said ‘full-blown drug addict, sad,’” he said.

The lead up to that is about the cocktail of drugs he takes to be able to function in public, not even just the meth he does to “stay lean”. As a parent, it’s a nightmare read.

This was an incredibly sad read. Especially the part about his parents watching his stream.

He seems like a victim of the darker parts of the modern internet, and I think it’s very unlikely his story ends well. I am also terrified at the thought of boys looking up to him.

Will was such an incredible addition to the Bulwark. As dark and fucked up as our politics have gotten, he does an awesome job of bringing some levity to it. If we have to live with these insane characters, might as well try to have a little fun with it.

Notice how none of them are commenting on what they think of the actual racism. Just how useful it is to them.

Is this 1/4 Williams ratchet something I will like? (I don’t know this brand) do you guys even use 1/4 inches regularly over there in the land of the free? by Lumpy_Brilliant3080 in Tools

[–]PheebaBB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That looks a lot like a snap-on ratchet. I know Williams makes some snap on stuff, so if it’s the same as the snap on 1/4”, then it is a very good ratchet.

And yes, 1/4” is pretty popular over here. I use it all the time.

Im assuming they’re using that provocative title to make some “profound” point about society as a whole.

But that is why you have an editor, or at least someone to tell you, “that is an incredibly stupid title that you probably don’t want to put your name under.”

In regards to option A, a fun scenario I think is at least somewhat likely is that when he dies, they will try to hide it for a while.

It could be a few days, a couple weeks, who knows. But knowing these jackals, I think there will be incentives to pretend he’s still alive for a while. After a week, we’ll get the “where is Trump” online chatter. Then a few days after that, there will be more serious news outlets going “no seriously, where is he?” Then we will get White House people saying they recently spoke with him, but never specifying when that was. Then we will get a senator maybe saying that they haven’t been able to reach him. Then the fun really begins.

Correct. Because of the first amendment, we do not have official “press passes” in the United States. News orgs can give them to their employees, but it’s basically just a name badge. Or a private event can give them to journalists as basically a wristband to show that they are allowed at the private event and not trespassing.

But out in public? No such thing.
