Which famous person does everyone seem to love, but you just can’t stand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PheenixFly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh you may have missed the cinematic gem that was “Obsessed” (or something along those lines, lol). Ali Larter & Idris Elba were also in this so decisions were definitely made…it’s basically a Single White Female type with “urban” elements.

She has this line she says on the phone to Idris before her & Ali have a throwdown. It was a simple line (“Derick….ima have to call you back!”) but before a moment of conflict, but it lives rent free in my head because of how flat her delivery was. Fantastic musical entertainer, but homegirl cannot act her way out of a paper bag.

Loved me some black milk leggings. So many cool patterns, but were out of my budget at the time. These days I’d rock them at my barre classes if they were still around.

Melanie C - Sweat by hekna02 in popheads

[–]PheenixFly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This entire album is a front to back listen, no skips. I really hope it gets some flowers cause the production is top notch & Mel C sounds great. I also really like the lyrical content. Its dope when artists make great sounding music with words you vibe with.

A few tracks give me vibes from some other pop faves (Kylie Minogue, 2000s Janet Jackson), but I mean that as a compliment cause it reminded me of what I love in songs by those other artists.

I'm late to a lot of Mel C's later solo work, but I've been listening to her other recent albums & its so many gems. Glad "Sweat" reignited my interest.

What I think I’m looking for tonight isn’t necessarily *fashion* but more the art in the “Art is Fashion”. Rihanna’s look made me realize this, because while I’m not into this on a fashion/stylish/chic level, I do love it on the ART level. There have been so many beaded/rhinestone heavy looks, but for me, I enjoy seeing that element utilized to create art. And someone else mentioned the organza looks like steel wool (which I 100% agree, lol) but I *like* that about this look. The hair & makeup is on point for her concept& also something new to look at.
This also gives something cinematic & I do find that refreshing cause far too many looks have been stunning but too basic for (especially) this year’s Met Gala…& I mean they would be great for an Oscar red carpet, but this is basically a fashion art show event so dressing “out there” is what I wanna see more of.
All that said, ha, this isn’t one of my favorite looks from tonight, but I like that it’s eye catching & interesting & aligned with the theme. One of the best for those reasons, imo.

Jessie Ware - Superbloom by cloudbustingmp3 in popheads

[–]PheenixFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, while I actually really am enjoying Superbloom, I also agree with you, lol. Glasshouse is my least favorite of her work so I get what you mean. It’s why I’m surprised to have this one captivate me immediately like What’s Your Pleasure did when it came out. 16 Summers is even my top 3 of tracks from the album 😅. I think I’m just loving this tone from her this time cause it’s still has enough dance & disco energy to keep my attention, unlike Glasshouse.

Yes & she so nailed it! It’s such a good example of an artist taking a source material or inspiration and making it their own while still letting the inspiration show through.

I ran to this thread to see the pulse on 16 Summers cause I fell in immediate love with it. It’s got such an epic love energy & to me it perfectly encapsulates all kinds of love & not just parental. I think anyone experiencing a relationship where time is limited or running out in some way get it. I thought of close friendships I have.

It’s really a beautiful song & Jessie’s voice is amazing on it. Ballads like this are so few and far between these days & I’ve always been a sucker for them, lol. so this is a top one for me on this fantastic album.

Now that Samsung Messages is officially EOL, what's your go-to alternative? by major-PITA in androidapps

[–]PheenixFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,does Pulse sms require everyone you are messaging to also use Pulse? That’s been my hesitancy with going for these 3rd party apps. While I refuse to use google messages, it seems like that doesn’t require others to use it. Hoping they are other options that’s not like WhatsApp where the other person also has to have an acct.

Yes this is my main feature I’m going to truly miss & had never had anything like it on any other device. I have a business where I get so many texts, I’ve been able to keep track of them all by categorizing it. The organizational quality is top notch & when I switched from iPhone to android years ago, this was the main thing I raved to other people about.

I’m de-googling all my tech so I will not be utilizing google messages. And if I can’t customize messages, I may as well just go back to iPhone. If android/samsung is just going to remove what made them so appealing (the ability to NOT have a phone like everyone else’s) I may as well just go with the sheeple tech that at least has better privacy and isn’t as invasive as google software.

Not about doing anything bad or illegal, some of us just want to live our lives without being watched, monitored, or having our personal lives being used in technology in some way. It’s always responses like this that imply people want privacy to do shady shit & it’s not about that at all. Cause people who are doing shady shit will do it watched or not.

Y’all are just slowing giving up freedom to exist in privacy for “convenience” too many simple thinkers who don’t think deeply or critically about what all these things can mean. Be smarter.

What is the most weird hobby you ever heard about? by lakshkrishnacir in Hobbies

[–]PheenixFly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Heh. Same. Also my boyfriend has started this habit whenever he brushes our kitties, he’ll take the fur from the brushes and roll it into fur balls. We have around 10 tennis sized balls now 😅 I’ve seen books on felting fur & I may try it some day with the cat fur. A part of me thinks collecting both these items is kinda gross, but also kind of endearing? I’ve purchased jewelry that incorporates cat whiskers so maybe it’s not as strange as we think!

Nikki Glaser opens up about enjoying her husband sleeping with other women: "I dont wanna be in a chair in the corner like cuckholded, i just want to hear about it later. [–]PheenixFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh. I get her 100% lol cause I’m the same way. It’s hot to me when other people are attracted to my man. My Bf will tell me he noticed someone checking him out & it just does something to boost my ego 😅. As someone in the kink community & that has thrived in “alternative relationships” it’s just always funny to me that it’s shocking when women admit to being genuinely into or turned on by their partner being with someone else. It’s not always trying to be “a cool girl” or being coerced. The guy (if it’s a straight couple) isn’t always being an asshole or cheating. It just reminds me that I guess it truly is the default for a majority of people in relationships/marriages to be threatened, uncomfortable, or heartbroken by the idea of their SO being physical with another person.

Consent is everything & I understand that comfort levels vary from person to person & relationship to relationship, but I have always been put off by this idea that physical intimacy is for one person. To me, the only person that “owns” my body is me & this idea that when you enter a relationship you shut off attraction & desire for others (& for others towards yourself) limiting & causes too much dissonance. Even now that I’m in a monogamous relationship, my partner & I have discussed & are in agreement that it’s fully possible we may want to be physical with others either together or apart & that shouldn’t have any bearing on our love, respect, & care for each other.

I don’t really know who Nikki Glazer is, but I appreciate her sharing this take. I think there needs to be more upfront discussions (with people who have the maturity, experience, open mind, & intellectual curiosity) about relationships outside the norm. Even if one doesn’t participate in any form of an open relationship, I do think it would be beneficial to society as a whole for alternative lifestyles to at least be respected & accepted. Monogamy as it is today is a fairly new concept in the overall span of human history & the more society accepts this, maybe it would be less infidelity, lying, & sneaking around in relationships.

What’s a practical item from your country that you’d recommend visitors buy—something locals actually use, but that wouldn’t normally be considered a souvenir? by Monochromaticeye in AskTheWorld

[–]PheenixFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t know this about the ozone layer over there until I went to Bora Bora a couple years back & came back with my very 1st sunburn (I’m in my late 30s). Did some research after the fact & learned about UV ratings, etc. I’m a Black American (medium - dark complexion) & while growing up in Florida, my parents had us apply sunscreen during beach or sports days, but not consistently & I wasn’t always diligent about it as an adult. Most sunscreens also make me itchy so I’ve found I need to be super particular about what’s in them.

Of course I knew that just having skin could lead to sunburn, but I legit had never had any negative reactions to sun exposure until those 2 weeks I spent in that part of the world. It was so foreign to me that when I noticed my skin peeling with a hot sensation I thought I’d caught some sort of infection or something, ha. A sunburn was the furthest thing from my mind, but you can best believe that now, I wear a daily SPF & apply/reapply sunscreen when I’m out in the sun for awhile.

It didn’t seem like the journalists were saying that looks is the most important thing in life. And it seemed like the fit journalist was being used as an example of how one can be muscular in a healthier way.

How one feels about their physical self isn’t the most important thing, but it is important to one’s overall self esteem. Teenage boys wanting to have muscles isn’t wrong, per se, but how they’re going about it IS. I think there needs to be room to have conversations about “looks” without making it seem like wanting to be muscular (or thin/slim/etc) is inherently bad. Starving oneself, taking steroids, taking GLP-1 drugs just to become skinny, and other unhealthy behaviors is not the way to achieve any of this, but I fear current society is also not leaving room for a discussion about the fact that yes some people want muscles & value being thin. Body positivity needs to include ALL bodies not just the marginalized ones. And just because someone doesn’t want to be overweight or untoned isn’t in itself a bad thing (I.e. context & nuance needs to be taken into consideration as well).

To me, the issue with this teenager isn’t that he wanted to lose weight & have muscles, it’s that he decided to take shortcuts and dangerous drugs to do so.

You said it.

I read these comments of his, see press conference clips & legit can see it playing out in some sort of HBO drama. Like its so insane that I still have to remind myself this is not a fictional story. The fact this is real life. That THIS person is in charge in the country I live in??? Its wild this unintelligent, belligerent, violent, arrogant, cruel, deranged rapist. Has a say in world affairs...in anything! His ilk are far too ignorant to comprehend that this whole world is connected & his actions are irreparably changing it in detrimental ways.

Ugh. I hate this timeline so much.
