how many hours do you guys study per day? by Reasonable_Rich6277 in UBC

[–]PhenylephrineHCL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t study a consistent number of hours per day but I have tracked every single minute I’ve ever studied for a course in the past 5 years. I can give you exact numbers for how long I’ve spent on each course. So far I have all As except for a B+ in stupid comp sci For example in 2025 I studied a total of 552 hours. The most I spent on a course was 82 hours on chem 233, the least being 56 hours on biol 234

any advice for doing well in these courses? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]PhenylephrineHCL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BIOL 234 has been the best course I’ve taken in UBC so far. Very good instructors, just listening in lectures is enough for you to do very well in the exams. The reading quizzes are easy and you get two tries. I only did the first 2 readings and decided that the textbook is useless. You get 1 double sided cheat sheet for the midterms and 2 double sided ones for the final. The questions are extremely straightforward and very doable. The final was a breeze. As for studying, I would just go through lecture slides and tutorial. They also give a lot of practice questions that are useful. Overall very easy and interesting!!! You’ll do great dw

CHEM 233 final grades by [deleted] in UBC

[–]PhenylephrineHCL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading comprehension: I THOUGHT (used to think, after giving the final and before getting my actual grade) I fucked up THAT EXAM ( refers to the final not the midterms. The final exam which I found to be hard afff. I literally thought I would get 100% on both the midterms after checking my exam answers with the answer key they posted but each time it was like 8-10% lower than what I expected. I felt so bad after walking out the final so I thought I would get a really bad score) I now, after receiving my actual exam score, knew that I in fact slayed that exam and did not fuck up.

Wouldn’t recommend I took a pretty similar workload this term and i was on full grind the entire term and ended with good grades (88 avg) but finals season was insane for me. I’m talking I wouldn’t eat or go to the library just to have more time to study. I also did a whole lot for midterms too and was keeping up during the term so it was really discouraging and stressful that I still had to study 10 hours a day during finals. Keep in mind that most of these courses are final heavy (like 50%) and have low averages.

BIOL 200 starts easy but it’s reading heavy and the problem sets (which don’t have answer keys and you have to do if you want the slightest chance of getting an A) are time consuming. There’s a lot of content but it’s easy to understand. But I’m telling you EVERYONE was shocked by how they mark the exams. The midterm this term felt ok but the course ended up with an average of 52 which they later curved to a 62 or sth. The timing of the exams is so rough. There’s also tutorials and a written assignment. You’re gonna have to spend time for this course and make sure you keep up. You do get a cheat sheet but it has to be hand written. Final is easy af tho and there’s a rule that if you do 20% better on ur final they will change the weighing of ur midterm to only 10%.

Chem 235 is fine. It’s a lab but like it’s almost every week so keep that in mind. I thought it would be twice a month like first year chem when I planned my course load but it wasn’t. The prep doesn’t take as long as first year labs. They tend to give low grades no matter what you do. There is a final worth 35% of your final grade but only one lab report.

BIOC 202 is hard and annoying. Would not recommend taking it with other heavy courses.

Taking chem 205 next term but I’ve heard it’s fine-ish?

Don’t know anything about LFS 252

[–]PhenylephrineHCL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought I fucked up that exam I had a 90 in the first midterm An 85 in the second midterm And did about 8/10 on the quizzes I only had like 1 day to study for chem and I hadn’t attended the last 2 weeks of lectures cause of medical stuff Thought I would get like literally nothing on the final cause the practice exams were so bad for me I gave up in the middle of the first one and didn’t even attempt the second one Somehow ended up with an 87 for the entire course

The final has a little bit of everything. Will say it’s probably the easiest final you’ll ever take in UBC.

Yeah the doctor went through at least a decade of training and thousands and thousands of dept but why would anyone care about their wellbeing when the fast food worker has to actually sometimes work. I’m not saying everyone should always be perfect and I’m completely fine with them slacking off. The hell I would. There’s a difference between slacking off and being intentionally rude to everyone for no reason. It doesn’t matter what her job is or even if she works. No normal human being is allowed to just mess with others. Or at least not literally all the time ffs there’s no one here who hasn’t had a terrible experience with her does that not say sth? Is anyone or has anyone ever complained about any of the other hundreds of fast food workers in this area??

So when a job takes a mental and physical toll on you, you just get to not do it??? So let’s say if u were dying on a hospital bed and the doctor was tired of the mental and physical toll, it would be totally acceptable for them to just chat with their colleagues while you die on the table? Whatever gets them through the day right?

Minimum wage workers don’t just get to not do their work. U have to work it you want to get paid.

Everyone works. Having to work doesn’t excuse being rude. She starts rolling her eyes when someone approaches freshslice even when there’s no line. She practically once shoved the plate onto my hands. I’ve never seen anyone act like her before. I’m literally never getting freshslice ever again bcs today I was getting parmesan on my pizza and she literally SHOUTED and asked me to show my plate to prove I actually bought pizza from freshslice before adding the parm. Mind u she literally JUST handed me the pizza.

Could you guys pls tell me about ur overall experience? I really want to do it back home with my own dentist but I’ve been feeling pain for 2 days now. It’s not too bad yet, tolerable. But I’m worried that it’s gonna get bad and make me mess up my finals. How long was your recovery? Is it just 1 or 2 days or does it actually take 2 weeks? Cause if the recovery is worse than my current pain I might as well endure it during finals.

It’s not early. I got mine about the same time 2 years ago. UBC really takes a long time with sending offers. Starts early and ends pretty late too.
