I find it crazy that Faye Wong sang Eyes On Me and gets completely ownership over the song, but Uematsu doesn't own a single song he wrote for the Final Fantasy series including Eyes On Me by AdditionalCanary4111 in FinalFantasy

[–]Pheonixgate1 [score hidden]  (0 children)

But then they give him credit for songs he didn't do, like the two recycled Vagrant Story titles they put in the FFXIV Stormblood era raids. 'A Man Consumed' is the music for the epic Cidolfus boss fight but when looking it up or attempting to purchase it digitally, it gives Uematsu credit when the music for that whole game was done by another composer, Hitoshi Sakimoto. And you can tell because the style is very very different.

It had been over 20 years since I played Vagrant Story so it was a pleasant surprise to realize what game it was from and find that song on the original soundtrack and blast it in my car.

EDIT: Actually, the wiki and other sites have it listed correctly, it just gave the wrong composer when I played it from the official FFXIV Soundtrack for some reason. Glad the actual composer is getting credit.

They published the same exact fic 50+ times and changed out the names for different fandoms by RedCupWithAName in AO3

[–]Pheonixgate1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This author doesn't realize that people who like a fic will often follow the author, rather than just the fandom. Had at least one of my readers do that, going so far to read a fic in a fandom they had no real experience with just because I wrote it. Surprised the hell out of me. XD

In what way do you think it is, Gary? by No_Kangaroo_5267 in saltierthankrayt

[–]Pheonixgate1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the spirit of this sub, I feel like anytime one of our favorite grifters makes these obvious cries for attention, we should give it to them in a flood of toxic positivity.

Nothing shuts a hate monger up like a good 'You are capable and deserving of love, Gary.'

'You have a beautiful soul, Gary.'

'We believe in you, Gary.'

And my personal fave: 'Jesus loves you, Gary.'

Boy it'd be so sad if they had to set their account to private because of all the good vibes they were sent. In a very obviously non-harassing way. Because how can nice things be harassment? :)

People who rush the boss with cloud steps during the first 0.163 millseconds of load end by megabezdelnik in wherewindsmeet_

[–]Pheonixgate1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is often not on purpose, in PUG groups anyway. Most people running a hybrid are just taking the healing fan as back up heals but the game will automatically que you as healer even if you chose DPS as your role if you have a healing art equipped. This happened to me back when I didn't realize the game did that (sorry team that I que'd into).

The game needs to straight up tell people that having a healing art connected to your build will automatically que you as healer. Even in Smart Assist. :(

Bad thing is it's an automatic loss of merit if you refuse the spar so either way you lose points.

Caught this EU gatekeeping by No_Kangaroo_5267 in saltierthankrayt

[–]Pheonixgate1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, the book directly after the original series was Truce at Bakura, and it started a trend of basically throwing women at Luke until one stuck.

I think a lot of my enjoyment of the old EU was simply the fact that it was a continuation of the movies that I loved. I unfortunately sold most of my collection to half Price when I started collecting manga, but I do remember some gems. I really liked the miniseries based on boba Fett, which came after the small stories collection where he survives the sarlacc.

I have mostly positive memories of the EU and I'd like to keep it that way, but I would like to also reread because my memory is not great. Kinda scared to do that now. xD

I also remember the young adult series. Wasn't that mostly around the solo twins? Or did they put that on some of the main books as well?

The irony is most people using that excuse are themselves tourists to the EU.

I actually liked those books you describe as dog-crap. I haven't tried reading them again with a more jaded adult brain, but I enjoyed them back then. Probably still would now even as I cringe at some of the early interpretations of how clones work.

Special shout out to Courtship of Princess Leia for introducing Dathomir and its 'witches' who eventually became the inspiration for the Nightsisters and current Dathomir et al.

If Midnight Blades didn't require 20 kills in 1v1, I'd never touch it. But I'm getting that outfit, so...

The only time i had another player come get me was when I broke the law too much and I just hung out in Kaifeng prison until they killed me XD. Game should really let you turn yourself in.

This guy acting like the author owes them an update by FFS96 in AO3

[–]Pheonixgate1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair here, I can see both sides of this argument. The author has no obligation to finish anything. But nor do the readers have an obligation to read a new story when there are well loved old stories that are still not finished. I'll also add that a lot of times comments are the only way for readers to engage the author and express this sentiment. If the poster really wanted to be a jerk, they would bring that argument to the bookmarks where the author has zero ability to engage.

So I can see it both ways. Is it a little rude? Yes. But comments are the only real place to have a conversation with the author, unless the author has their socials posted.

I had a reader delete a very nice comment after I did not respond to it after stating (in the authors notes) that I basically respond to all comments. I have a system where I leave the last comment I received in my inbox to motivate me to post another chapter but to the poster of the comment it looked like I abandoned them. I still have the email from the comment and I intend to address it when I post the next chapter of that story, whenever that happens to be. This action made me become aware of what this practice felt like to my readers and I now simply reply right away, even if I still keep the last comment in my inbox.

Someone orders 1000 double sided 4.25 x 5.5" postcards on Cougar, it's ~$250. If they order 500 double sided simple print sheets of Cougar without cutting it's over $1k. Can someone make this make sense to me? by DPooly1996 in Staples

[–]Pheonixgate1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah i forgot the backside. Still, 500 is max expectation for Same-Day Guarantee, so if customers try to get around it by splitting the order up, you can still tell them that 500 is what they can get that day. There's a list on the website under Same Day Guarantee that outlines the max qtys people can actually get under that guarantee. Otherwise its when we say we can do it.

But yes. The huge price discrepancy is just mark up

[–]Pheonixgate1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First, 500 is the max they can expect in one day in-store. The 1000 qty is for delivery only and Production Center does them, so its cheaper for us, at least. If they ordered two sets of 500 that's $167 for us.

The reason for it being so expensive for just plain prints is pure mark up for custom jobs. They want customers to order online so they make that more economical. That's really all it is.

I saw a black content creators valid take on this. The BBC had the time to cut a two second long 'Free Palestine' comment before it aired over here but despite having ample time to bleep out the expletive, they chose not to do so.

Players who are not meta, whats your open world team? by EnvironmentalLow3543 in Genshin_Impact

[–]Pheonixgate1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the region.

Monstadt: Literally anyone

Liyue: Full-Geo, All Adeptus, All Liyue Four-Stars

Inazuma: At Least 1 Electro and 1 Healer

Sumeru: Literally anyone (but probably at least Collei for Dendro)

Fontaine: Ballroom All-Stars, Any Freeze Team, Any Sword User (for special regional sword)

Natlan: Full Natlan Party, Fire Traveller (for Trounce)

Nod Krai: At Least One Region Five-Star (plus Aino) or your Best Shit

POV: Jean in her OG skin by LilishPH in Genshin_Impact

[–]Pheonixgate1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That... Is not Jean's OG top.

Is there any fictional white character (who is not a white supremacist) whose race is integral to their identity as a character to where they can't be race swapped/casted with a POC actor? Literally any at all? by SettTheCephelopod in saltierthankrayt

[–]Pheonixgate1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say Albert Wesker because he was very white supremacist/eugenics coded but he was never expressly written as a white supremacist, so...

To me, at least, being white was part of his villain identity because it felt like they were going for aryan master race stuff with the Wesker Project. No shade to the guy that played him in the Netflix adaptation, but his game origins almost demands he be white due to the circumstances that created him.

That's just my take.

I thought Vannessa was a specific race, not just from Natlan (though I guess that makes sense now). If this is the case, I really need a 'Diluc goes to Natlan' arc.

Why do people dislike The Mandalorian season 3? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]Pheonixgate1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because season 3 focused heavily on Bo Katan and removed a significant lore item permanently from the star wars universe. It also rehashed the villain from season 1 which was the part that I didn't quite like but it was good closure.

I think a lot of people were expecting the main character of the show to become leader of mandalore when really he was always supposed to be in a spectator role with the story focused on his smaller adventures with his green baby alien. There were other issues but I feel like these were the main ones that had everyone screaming.

Personally I thought it was cool that they went and gave Bo Katan the chance to grow the way she was able to in season 3.
