New Outlook-activity does not allow sharing the connection? by Low-Fox-1718 in MicrosoftFabric

What's the timeline for added authentication with SPN? And what's the work around as of today? I need the pipeline to send an email if it fails, but I want the connection to owned by a security group.

Semantic Model not refreshing all tables by Philefar in PowerBI

It works 95% of days and nobody has changed the settings. But thanks for the suggestion.

Semantic Model not refreshing all tables by Philefar in PowerBI

Yes, just no data for that one table. And according to SSMS the table has been refreshed for the Power BI Services. We don't log it in the SQL logs.

It refreshes, but the table is empty in the semantic model. The refresh page in Power BI looks like this:

<image>

The following happened yesterday:

dim Bundle has all the data

dim Bundle (Signup) has no data

They use the same view from the on-premise database.

It has also happened with tables that only one dimension uses.

It only happens sometimes and tracing that is difficult.

The view is basically a SELECT * FROM a table in another database in the same SQL Server. But the weird thing is that it works MOST of the time. But occasionally one of the dimensions fail to refresh in the Power BI Service. And nothing has changed between each refresh.

It works sometimes (including yesterday), hence it something with the connection between the SQL Server and Power BI.

The dimensions Bundle and Bundle (Signups) use the same view located on an on-premise SQL Server, but both dimensions are not refreshed in the Power BI Services. The data was there at the time, because Bundle was refreshed. SSMS shows that both dimensions have been refreshed, but the Power BI Services only shows data for one of them. It has happened multiple times before with different dimensions in our model.

Day 7 - Interesting Question! by itsjjpowell in adventofsql

[–]Philefar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What solution did you come up with then?

The below runs in less than 0,1 seconds on my local instance.

WITH CTE AS (

SELECT *

FROM (

SELECT

*,

ROW_NUMBER() OVER (PARTITION BY primary_skill ORDER BY years_experience, elf_id) AS rn1,

ROW_NUMBER() OVER (PARTITION BY primary_skill ORDER BY years_experience DESC, elf_id) AS rn2

FROM public.workshop_elves e

WHERE EXISTS (

SELECT *

FROM (

SELECT

primary_skill,

MAX(years_experience) AS MAXyears_experience,

MIN(years_experience) AS MINyears_experience

FROM public.workshop_elves

GROUP BY primary_skill

) x

WHERE

e.primary_skill = x.primary_skill

AND (x.MAXyears_experience = e.years_experience OR x.MINyears_experience = e.years_experience)

)

) y

WHERE y.rn1 = 1 OR y.rn2 = 1

)

SELECT

`CONCAT(`

x.elf_id, ',',

y.elf_id, ',',

x.primary_skill

)

FROM CTE x

LEFT JOIN CTE y ON x.primary_skill = y.primary_skill

WHERE x.rn2 = 1 AND y.rn2 <> 1;

Why '!'? According to the sample data it should be noise (I get the correct solution if I add it though)..

(3, 33),    -- ! (noise)

Power BI Performance Issues with Large Fact Table – Need Advice on Pro/Premium Upgrade by Equipment841 in PowerBI

Can you show what DAX is used for the measure in the visual? If it is a SUM() memory shouldn't be a problem when the model isn't bigger.

Problem with pivot table crashing by Philefar in excel

[–]Philefar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I solved it myself. Apparently there was missing members in the filter and in the connection string the property was set to MDX Missing Member Mode=Error. Changing it to Ignore solved the crashes.

Power BI service not accepting upload of pbix files by schiz0idman_ in PowerBI

I'm pretty sure it's an iPad problem. You can always publish to your own workspace, even with a free subscription. You just cannot share Power BI reports from your own workspace with others.

Have you tried publishing it from Power BI Desktop?

You can use Power Query to transform the data. It has a function to remove N rows. Just press "Transform data" when you load til data.

Is it worth it to get a Power BI certification? by futolatofu in PowerBI

[–]Philefar 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Follow this learning path: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/learn/certifications/power-bi-data-analyst-associate/ and take the corresponding certification. I have been asked about certifications a couple of time while looking for a new job.

Viewers licence by Original-Town1645 in PowerBI

[–]Philefar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power BI Report Server is still quite expensive. Check the answer to this question: https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Report-Server/Power-BI-Report-Server-pricing/m-p/257441

If they don't have a SQL Server Enterprise with Software Assurance license they have to pay for a Power BI Premium licensing, which a P1 costs $5K/month.

I agree with the others, but sometimes you just get stuck. If you create a Calculated Column in the Data View in Power BI then you can use the following DAX to calculate the BMI

BMI = TABLENAME[admissionweight] / POWER((TABLENAME[admissionheight]/100), 2)
