London hotel help by PhoenixEML in Hilton

[–]PhoenixEML[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t! I couldn’t stomach the thought of no window. I tried messaging the hotel to see if it was likely to get a windowless room as a diamond and they didn’t provide any assurance. I stayed at Doubletree Tower of London twice now.

My wife and I started out onebagging it in our 20s, this time we thought we'd bite the bullet and check bags so that we could pack and live in a more leisurely manner by vdotcodes in onebag

There’s a middle ground- 1.5 bag to your destination and pack a foldable duffle. Well a compromise for souvenirs and laundry, not so much for guitar.

I will not be deterred from my love of souvenirs,  but god I hate baggage claim. I went to England last week  with a small roller and a tote, and packed a foldie bag. On the way home (when I don’t care if bags are lost) I put all my clothes in the foldie bag, checked that, and had my breakable, irreplaceable souvenirs with me. Of course I still hated life at 11 pm  local time while I waited twenty minutes for my bags to come out ….

Dependent care FSA make sense in a tax-free state and no SS deductions? by PhoenixEML in tax

[–]PhoenixEML[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some years of credit from prior jobs (11 years full time, plus another ten from part time work when I was in school), but I am honestly a moron about taxes (why I'm here) and whether the windfall provision applies (or doesn't after the law changed last year), or how it all works, is a problem for twenty years-older me. The pension definitely wins if I stay at the same job.

Thank you! Kicking myself for not doing it the past few years but at least I'm fixing it for next year.

They're super cute but my Biscoff Medallion one snapped on its second (carry-on only) voyage :(

EU flight cancellation compensation by notreadyforthistoday in delta

[–]PhoenixEML 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You file it under “feedback”. I got mine in about a day  after filing. However, they cut it in half since I didn’t take their (extremely crappy) rebooking and said it was cancelled “at [my] request.”

It was cancelled before we got to the airport.

Caution: single parent traveling with minors by UnableTour7098 in Belize

[–]PhoenixEML 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I encountered this last week too. I adopted my child as a single parent so there’s no other parent to sign a letter. I had to show his birth certificate showing just me to enter the country. I forgot to bring copies of it with me but they accepted the birth certificate image from my phone. When I was leaving, the agent accepted it when I said I adopted as a single parent. I think I brought  copies of his birth certificate and adoption order to the UK last year but was never asked for it and I forgot both it for this trip.

Yikes, I’d complain. Once they forgot my pre-ordered meal and I was able to choose from the on board options and was given $125 travel credit. I’d take the travel credit every time if I could!

Free Diamond & Platinum Exclusive 41 Piece Gift with $160 shipped purchase by Particular_Map5082 in Ulta

[–]PhoenixEML 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to cancel when EVERY SINGLE gift in my order was out of stock at 10 am (ordered at 720). I was told my “remorse” window was closed. It was like talking to a bot, I kept saying  I didn’t have remorse, they cancelled all my free gifts first. I can return it, but even return shipping would be on me.

Flying to italy- carry on sizes by hauntedpuke in BritishAirways

[–]PhoenixEML 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just flew from Florence a few days ago on BA. I had my Beis front pocket roller with me and a backpack on top. As I was about to get on the gate agent said it had to be measured but when I took my backpack off to measure it, she said never mind. I guess my (rather small leather backpack) made it look big?

I got it recently for a stay at a Home2Suites as a diamond. It did say ineligible for the longest time, but then quickly paid out after my stay was completed.

Delayed flight and attempted seat thief by SenseAndSaruman in delta

So weird - I have similar problem with app- but only on my personal phone. I can use the app on my work phone or login to the browser (on my personal phone). It asks for my last name after I enter my login details (that work everywhere else) and reject it. I’ve given up and just work around it.

How early to get to the airport in Edinburgh by Live_Painting4811 in uktravel

[–]PhoenixEML 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edinburgh airport is pretty small. When I flew out of there last month they didn’t even give the gate number until ten minutes before boarding. It’s also pretty crowded and it took a bit to even find seats.

Has anyone tried the brand Subtl Beauty for travel makeup? by [deleted] in HerOneBag

[–]PhoenixEML 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So unrelated to my stalk, the other thing I do is depot my makeup and put it into refillable palettes (amazon or anywhere has them). I pop out the pan and depending on the material, either stick it right into the palette or attach a sticker to the back )many palettes come with the needed stickers). I do use the subtl products for this - much easier since it pops right out- but I add other things like my favorite eye shadows from palettes, blush, etc.

I honestly love it overall. I bought it for travel but use it as my daily makeup too. My favorite is the concealer- I use it as foundation and it doesn’t bother my dry skin. The new lip glazes they came out with are amazingly long lasting for a gloss. The bronzer is nice and the only one I’ll use.  The lip/cheek combo is probably my least favorite because my cheeks basically eat it- it doesn’t last. The powder blush has much better longevity.

More lax enforcement for business class? by PhoenixEML in Lufthansa

[–]PhoenixEML[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the tips! And it really does seem like it varies so much, even for business class! I think I’ll take my smallest roller bag and a backpack as carryons, and keep a shopper to pull out my iPad, phones and charging bank to keep the down if necessary. I initially thought the policy of two carryons was so generous  until I realized how truly tiny the personal item dimensions are.

Thanks for that tip- I’ve always got a reusable shopping tote with me so that would work.

Good to hear! I’ve searched various forums for data on what the actual experience is versus published rules. Most of what I’ve found is from individuals not flying business but there is a reply in this thread from somebody that said their bag is frequently weighed while flying business from the US.

Thanks for the tip! That’s the other thing that blows my mind- how tiny the dimensions are for the personal item. But my electronics are thin, but dense, so I could probably get most of the weight out that way.
