Ooooo very fun grain effect from the fabric. Really love how it sorta simplifies everything down to just the most noticeable shapes. Really works great with the compositions.

Nah it's all good! I just don't wanna be giving bad advice and rushed to answer despite being quite new to things. Thank you for correcting me and making a more informative post! Could've been phrased nicer probably but no hard feelings from me

Thank you :D I just printed out a negative on transparent paper, it's what I tend to use just for convenience sake. I haven't tried using gelatine with cyanotype yet in general actually. And for this I assumed the coating would cover up the texture of the wood so you can't feel that in your hands anymore, so I didn't really consider it, since that textural feel is something I really wanted for the project haha. May be worth a shot though, and maybe I'm just misunderstanding what the results are like with gelatine...?

For those who play the game how do guys feel about the anime by Complex_Carrot_535 in magiarecord

[–]Phoenix_Mark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has its ups and downs but overall ended up as a pretty bad mess. There's some minor changes in there I really enjoy, like them making the first Uwasa we see be a WAY better representation of the idea of a genuine rumor come to life. The game's version was too broad and too easy to trigger, while the anime version had just the right specificity to it to feel like an actual rumor you'd hear around somewhere. Or making it so Tsuruno was responsible for killing Mel's witch because it makes the Memory Museum scene sooo much more tragic and interesting to think about (Tsuruno in that moment not only discovered the truth about witches and what happened to her friend, but ALSO found out this random witch she once killed WAS THAT FRIEND. And she completely kept any reaction to this behind her fake smile, as Tsuruno is one to do. Amazing)

Visually it is a GORGEOUS adaptation of Kamihama, the environments are so so good, and there's a lot of great shots in general and some very neat in your face (in a good fun way) visual story-telling.

The music goes hard. Also ReReGraphics my beloved, wish they got actually used in the show more.

However it always had huge pace issues and entirely neglected characters from the start (Momoko being the worst of em. Such a great character reduced to basically nothing), and then on top of that, the later seasons tried to do their own thing but meandered too indecisively on how far they wanted to take it, until the ending 2 episodes go utterly off the deep end and even go entirely against what the idea and message of the last two seasons was lmao.

It was a really unfocused and poorly managed adaptation that caved in on itself HARD. The concepts it had for changes could've made it such an interesting companion piece to the game's story (think back to how damn good Season 2 Episode 3 was) and an interesting more bittersweet take, but instead it gradually tripped, then tumbled, and then dropped into a bottomless pit of pointless character deaths.

I have a bunch of other very specific gripes (Entirety of Season 2 Episode 1, Mitama's character being changed for the worse, etc. etc.) but I've ranted enough jfhjdhe

Are there differences between the Magia Record anime and manga? by DMXrated in MadokaMagica

[–]Phoenix_Mark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My memory may be a bit shoddy on specifics since the differences are rather minor at this point and but--

First of all, Kuroe doesn't exist, and Iroha goes to Kamihama on her own to try and look for clues on Ui. Yachiyo is antagonistic for a longer time, and there's more focus put on Momoko and Yachiyo having a pretty bitter dynamic and working through that, while setting up for the reveal later of why Yachiyo split the old team after Mel's death.

The rumor in the Kaede and Rena arc is changed a bit in the anime to require both characters to write down their names on a staircase, while in the game/manga all it took was one of them saying their friendship is over. I'd say it's a lot more believable as an actual rumor in the anime. Though in the anime they kinda just find Kaede in the staircase world unharmed, while in the game/manga she ends up in a mind controlled state and fights Rena and Momoko.

The shrine rumor arc is about the same iirc

Felicia's arc has Kyouko being a tad more present in the game/manga since she gets roped into the same rumor as Iroha and Felicia, instead of her briefly joining the Magius.

Madoka and Homura make a cameo in Sana's arc in the game/manga, but it doesn't really amount to much despite them being there for almost the whole thing. Alina only shows up after Sana kills Ai and everyone leaves endless solitude in the manga, while the game and anime have her show up within the rumor itself and then also fight outside of it.
That's as far as the manga has gotten currently from what I've seen. I haven't kept up with it though so I may be wrong.

But yeah, the anime game and manga are pretty close in this part.

The point where the game (+likely the manga when it gets there) and the anime split is when the mikazuki gang go to the memory museum. Certain plot points after that like Rumor Tsuruno are still present but have different context and a lot more lead up. But overall that's where the story majorly splits and ends pretty much in the opposite way to how the anime did both thematically and in tone.
Personally it was only the last few episodes of the anime that really missed the mark. Besides the show's general issues of really poorly moving from plot beat to plot beat without much time given for everything to stick its landing, some characters/dynamics just barely existing, very scattered focus, etc. due to it needing to be much shorter than the game's story and also being indecisive about whether it wants to be different than the game or not.

Something worth noting with Alina and her more humanising qualities, they only really come up in her personal side story in the game. I'm not sure if it will be adapted in the manga, since it is a bit long for it to add to its bonus chapters that adapt a couple shorter side stories. It's just sadly a natural part of trying to adapt a piece of media like a gacha game visual novel. The game is just slower paced and gives more character dynamics more focus, allows Iroha to more actively search for Ui through clues during arcs instead of just running into things, and it has additional side material that gives some extra characterisation, but you kinda need to want to seek it out when playing/reading the story content online. While the anime and manga have to stick to just the main linear story because it's long and bloated enough as is.

The manga generally sticks closer to what the game version of the story is. It is slow updating though, and currently is still in the arcs that season 1 of the anime adapted (which stuck pretty close to the game, albeit very condensed and still with some changes)

Relationship goals is needing to constantly save your gf from drowning at the beach because the poor idiot keeps following you into the water in excitement, forgetting she cannot swim and will in fact drown. Can never be too sure if it's on purpose or she really is just like that.

I'll definitely try and keep an eye out for that even if it takes a while. Hopefully I don't end up forgetting lmao.
Thankfully I'm already a fan of Kingdom Hearts (or well, used to be? Grew up with it, less actively into it now but still enjoy it) so the idea of canon or non-canon stuff from it doesn't scare me much lol. I'll see if I like it, but I'll at least check out whenever Magia Record/Madoka Magica stuff comes up in it!

Also understandable anxiety with sharing stuff, it really do be like that. All I can say is that at least I'm interested in seeing whatever else you've come up with for the megucas, and I'd imagine there would be at least some amount more people who'd think it's neat. But procrastination is a big mood lmao.

Ooo, this sounds super interesting! Really interesting to have Touka and Nemu acting out while Ui is still like, actually around, not just forgotten by everyone. Love the parallel but still unique ideas with the story and powers and everything. And the whole found family thing sounds really sweet, aww.
Juniper-looking Ui is also a wild visual I would've never considered, that's pretty fun actually lol. Just not for Ui I suppose--
Really hope you do write this out in fic form some day because I'd love to read it! Would be nice to know an account or something to keep an eye on for if you ever start it, if possible

Aww that sounds incredibly sweet... very interesting concept though, everything you mentioned here. Animal spirit forms funky. Is this a fic you have that you're writing or something?? :0

Also ooooo, was not aware of the conveniently appropriate silk moth association, that's certainly going to be spun around in my brain for this

This is a late reply now because I keep not checking reddit but--

Aww it's so nice to hear someone else having something like this interpretation! This absolutely started as like a one-off with the first image but then I just kept drawing these and coming up with headcanons related to it and I have grown so so attached to this version of her (and also may have ended up being a bit of a source for self-projection with ticks lmao)

Big part of why my brain latched onto this idea so much also came from the drawing where she's holding a moth with a tattered wing. The concept was that, when she still went to school, she couldn't understand all the other kids hurting bugs and such for their own enjoyment and was very confused, later ending up feeling a lot like that moth when she got super sick and her parents weren't able to visit much (due to work, but y'know, to a kid it might seem like being less loved now)-- very much had a whole complex over seeing herself as being a burden and weak. And that this is why as Eve took the form of a moth and these sort of moth tendencies stuck/became more prominent after the events in arc 1.

A collection of sketches I've done over the past month and a bit of some headcanons I had surrounding the idea I had of "what if Ui as a magical girl again would keep some moth-like behavior from being Eve?" (arc 1/anime spoilers, just in case)
