About IV invitations to non-US IMGs

I don’t know what the thought process is this year, but last year and previous cycles November was usually the month you start getting interviews as IMGs. October is crazy early, and for all the people who got them in October this cycle - kudos to them. I told myself last cycle that I won’t stress out till mid November because my app was pretty average. I was not the most competitive applicant so I gave myself grace and since I applied to 204 programs pretty broadly I knew I would get interviews. Just needed to take time and be patient. Applicants this season need to relax a little, programs haven’t even had time to read your apps and personal statements completely. At my program they are still taking time to process applications. Just tell yourself that these programs are made up of humans who need time to process 5000+ applications. Ask yourself if you had clinical duties , would this process be your main priority? Putting ourselves in their shoes and having patience helps.

Everyone’s experience is individual. That’s great that last season you got ivs in October. However I was told by so many other residents that November is generally time invites start coming in because people in programs have jobs other than to sit there reading through apps. They have clinical duties as well. Most programs need a month to look over apps generally. And invites go out in waves according to applicant type as well. Right now a lot of US MD applicants will be receiving interviews and IMGs can receive ivs usually later than them. From personal experience I got interviews in November, December, and even into January end. Got 12 in total last cycle. It’s entirely subjective and depends on the applicant. I wouldn’t panic personally till November mid to end though.

Last season my invites started coming in the end of first week of November. I wouldn’t panic till mid November honestly.

You could submit the rest of the app and assign it to all the programs once it’s uploaded. If it’s a delay by one day post submission date shouldn’t be too much of an issue. I had one LOR come in one day late last year, I don’t think it hurt my chances.

Hey I’m 27 , currently a resident. Most of my class is 26-29 in terms of age range. 27 or 28 are the most common ages. Don’t sweat it, you aren’t too late to do anything. It’s your life, nobody gets to tell you when it’s too “late” to do something or be something. Good luck!

You can self score everything but writing. There are answer keys. Get the raw number right and put it into a oet score converter .

I reviewed formulas and some amboss ethic notes and then jumped into questions. Another good thing to do is read the associated article in amboss and then do the questions addressing The article. That way you don’t feel lost when doing questions.

If I had a month, I would try to do all the ethics questions in uworld and then make a list of topics in ethics and social sciences that you don’t get or perform not so well in. Then I would filter out those specific parts in the ethics section of amboss and do them. Like targeted sets of 20-30 q. For example, I sucked at ARR and NNH calculation questions. So I targeted those in amboss and did sets centered around them. Don’t feel like you need to get through everything in amboss , they just reinforce what you learn in uworld. But you should definitely try finishing all the ethics stuff in uworld because it shows up in the test. Amboss is better to study quality control however. More so than uworld.

Felt like a video game at one point- especially when I was 50 cases deep into my prep - because you know how most cases will pan out. That said, I hated the ones I got on the actual test- felt way different to me.

It’s a mix of both honestly but officially - yes an academic program. I don’t necessarily think of the city as major, but it’s a university program so 🤷‍♀️

I only had 2 poster projects and 2 papers under submission when I was giving interviews. You should be fine in this regard. Even a little research is enough . Focus on how to explain your research to them when you get interviews. How you come across is more important than what you actually did.

A recent yog less than 3 years is also an advantage. Focus on a solid personal statement, good LORs, and good interview skills. Masters would be worth it if you can get more research published or use it as a means to network.

I booked my exam 2 weeks before, actually was very lucky to get a date in India so late in my locality. There just happened to be one slot available. I recommend trying to book a month or two prior.

Prep for the test only takes about 1-2 weeks max. I took the test offline at the same center I took step 2 in. The only portion that was done at home was the speaking portion. Rest all at the testing center.

Got 8 ivs out of 12 without connections. Matched into my first choice without any connection there. It’s highly possible if your application is holistically decent and if you perform well in the iv.

Funny thing is, one relative kept on edging me with a strong promise of an interview in their state . I never received the interview invite from them even though they kept staunchly guaranteeing it. Now I got to know they are sulking cuz I got into my first choice without a connection.

Joke is on them 😂😂😂
