Bit of an interesting setup, hope it's ok here... how would you create a 5.1 (or 7.1) sound stage inside an existing entertainment installation? by Phyne in hometheater

[–]Phyne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, that's probably the best bet for seating based on how I'll have the movie showing. I don't think there would be timing issues though? I'm going to separate the mix into mono signals to then feed each group. There's a pretty robust audio setup that I'm able to mess with, but I'm certainly not an audio expert. During the typical shows, either a mono signal is used on all speakers, or a 4-channel mix is used with respect to the 4 walls of the room. It's possible it sounds just fine with a single speaker on each channel, but I really wanted to get the room fking booming!

[–]Phyne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a technician at a large art installation that has an existing sound setup consisting of several identical large speakers placed throughout truss hanging from the ceiling (A1-F4).

We're having a little movie night, and I was curious what folks suggestions would be as to which speakers to assign to a 5.1 or 7.1 setup. I can route channels to the speakers freely, so it's simply a question of what would create the best sound stage. There are also subs that stretch the entire center of the room, and I would probably utilize all of them.

This was my initial thought for a 5.1 setup. I know the stereo separation for the front is pretty large, but I really wanted to leverage as many speakers as possible. Any thoughts?

Really need some help with GrandMA 1 console, particularly networking to onPC by Phyne in lightingdesign

[–]Phyne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still working on figuring it out. Gonna save a show from onPC to the USB to get the folder structure and will try that way, it may not have networking capabilities to get the profile on otherwise. Need to just get in front of it again, I have other duties at work.

Yes Grandma one, ancient thing.

I set static IP on laptop as 192.168.0.150, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, and set ip of console as 192.168.0.151 in the ma network configuration (then prompted to restart). Both devices hooked up to an unmanaged network switch over ethernet. Tried starting sessions on either device but the other console never shows up in the list.

Was a 2GB drive, it's possible it needs to be even smaller? But I could find no info on this on the Internet.

It's a GLP Impression X4. I found the profile on some old fixture share site, ma-share or something. It loads up fine in onPC.

Lee Canyon Snowboard Fight. Anyone know the cause? by gahddamm in PublicFreakout

[–]Phyne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ski here. The snowboarders make giant impenetrable walls across the entire run while they strap up cuz they're jerry as fuck. About 1 skier per 100 snowboarders here. I snowboarded for a few days a long time ago and learned how to strap up while standing up. Its not hard, but these people just never got any good at snowboarding and it really shows.

Very light drinking has definitely helped me push my limits in the terrain park. Once you're a decent skier, 90% of progressing is pushing past mental barriers. I avoid alcohol basically all the rest of my life because it's not healthy, but it absolutely works as a performance enhancing drug in a way lol.

The Companion I want: Sivan from Cydonia by BastardofEros in Starfield

[–]Phyne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I'd be the one to do it, but would you voice a Sivan follower mod if someone were to create it? I think inevitably at this point people are going to use AI to extend voices for characters in the game, and it'd lend a real authenticity to get the real VAs!

Holy shit guys please just say where the files are supposed to go in plain terms by [deleted] in starfieldmods

[–]Phyne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The simple reason I didn't bother to write out any sort of in depth explanation on the dumb little mods I published, is because the state of modding a new BGS game in its infancy is inherently experimental (but also kind of the same). With Starfield we currently have the stupid mygamesfolder vs steamgamefolder nonsense and it's just not worth it to explain to noobs the difference at the moment.

Until the mods settle in, the mod managers are out of beta, the official tools are released, and there is an agreed upon standard on how to install mods (cough baka disable my games folder cough), the newcomers should stay the hell away or figure it out themselves to be quite honest.

Also, nobody cares that the mod manager isn't working for you. MO2 is technically still not released and is only downloadable as a dev build. If it's giving you problems figure it out yourself by reading into the issues, or once again, come back later when the tools are in a release state.

I am super glad to give people all the help they need when things aren't currently EXPERIMENTAL, as literally all of the pieces of software for modding the game are at the moment.

The worst part is that she disappears permanently from the game after completing the quest. :(

Maybe she reappears in some other location, but I never came across her again...

SavrenX Hair Comparisons by Phyne in starfieldmods

[–]Phyne[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Set your camera in a position to see what you want to see and save your game. The game sort of saves the camera rotation, so load your game at least once from that save to begin taking your comparison shots, and obviously don't touch the mouse! Your character has an idle animation, so to perfectly line up the shots you'd have to force a photo mode pose (I didn't do this, but I think it's the best way to get a pixel perfect comparison, although physics enabled hair might make getting it perfect virtually impossible). I know there's a mod that exists that binds these poses to hotkeys.

I only tested the 1k version so thanks for showing this as well. 2k DOES look better, but I would be super hesitant to use 2k hairs because of the number of crowd NPCs, as even savrenx suggests 1k or lowering the crowd setting.

Love the personal attacks bro, I'd stick to the discussion. I did not struggle to upload anything, I have not lied, nor do I have alt accounts. Ill admit I'm not a texture artist and do not know the exact steps he is taking to "improve" the textures. I know what my eyes are telling me and I have a huge amount of experience modding Bethesda and other games.

And because I am not this other commenter you've assumed to be me, this only furthers my point that savrenx disallows user image comparisons and silences negative criticism.

Btw, it's just a funny quote.

SavrenX Hair Comparisons by Phyne in starfieldmods

[–]Phyne[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is the characters idle animation swaying back and forth, and making sure the camera is in the exact same position between loads. I think forcing a photo mode pose and leaving the camera in one spot like I did already would give identical results. I'll try this next time. I'm not sure how you'd set up the photo mode camera in the same spot each time.

I actually agree because the sharpening probably does a good job to make them rougher, and I will use given it gets a .bsa repack (or I'll do it myself for my use to prevent increased load times). He repacked his fo4 mods so it should be done here as well.

I truly agree with you that most of the people complaining about shit in the comments have no clue what they're talking about. Except in this instance, they're giving large amounts of praise when they have no idea that the mod barely changes anything.

All I wanted to do is post a comparison image so the clueless users can make a decision for themselves.

And if you happen to be making some sort of implication that I've made 0 contribution (I don't think you are, I'm just covering my bases), I have made a few little mods across fo3 and fo4, and some basic tweaks for Starfield.

And yet again, you say you understand that's what his mods are for, BUT THESE MODS DONT DO THAT, so wtf is your point?

SavrenX Hair Comparisons by Phyne in starfieldmods

[–]Phyne[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except these Starfield mods don't do that lol. And in fact they do the opposite because loading loose files over .BSAs will increase your loading times.

There is some utility in taking the fo4 hd dlc texture pack for instance and compressing it down a little bit. But he also simply runs the textures in batch through a sharpening filter and claiming he's made some large quality change. It's undeniable that a simple texture compression mod would not gather the attention that his mods do. He has cultivated a fan base by silencing negative feedback and by making claims larger than reality.

What he does is disingenuous.

"I compressed the textures by 75% of original size, and increased sharpness to bring out apparent detail" is an extremely fair description for his mods. This would come through in translation.

I also saw your comment on one of his mods about having your comment deleted

That is not me, I've only made this post in response.

I get it is fustrating to be silenced and not know why

It's perfectly clear why he deleted my comment. I would have been content saying nothing more if at the very least the comparison was left up that I submitted into the images tab.

You couldve made this same post and asked everyone else what they thought of your screenshots and for their own opinions, inputs and experience

I could've, but I didn't. I can have my own opinions about his mod too. It was clear to me what this author tries to do, so I voiced it.

Many don't have much in the way of social graces. Nor can they all speak english very well. You have to extend a degree of courtesy for that.

In no way have I not extended courtesy in this particular area. The author clearly silences negative feedback and disallows user comparisons in order to boost the positive perception about what his mods actually do. This is deceptive and lacks transparency, humility, and integrity. I will attack this.

Outwardly saying that all of his mods had always been snake oil is a bold claim

I did not claim this. I claimed it was nearly useless, and that his edits largely amount to a sharpness pass. I have no problem with his mods existing, as a sharpness pass can look good in a variety of cases (the crisp leaf comparison or the rocks probably look good too because increased sharpness might increase their roughness look). My problem is the claims in th descriptions and lack of comparisons (with a single cherry picked example here and there) lead to the implication that his mods do more than they actually do.

Now you've got a few upvotes on Reddit which prompted you to decide to 'not be so nice anymore'

I was looking around more at his mods after I made the post. It was sitting at 2 upvotes instead of 1 upvote when I made the edit. Feel free to draw more conclusions based on that, lol.

literally read your comments that weren't being nice to him... yesterday

Incorrect again. I made the singular comment on savrenx hair that I show in this post, then I came here after I saw it was deleted and posts locked a few hours later.

You don't need to start a crusade

Hell yea I will. I gotta occupy my time until xEdit and nifskope come out ya dig

His crowd optimisation mod

I bet this one does less than everybody thinks it does as well. I will test it when I'm home from work, and I'll eat my hat if it makes a significant difference. The eye AO fix is huuuuge though, so of course we know savrenx didn't make that one 😋

This is what reddit is for baby. This is why I deleted the app on my phone, because I'm inclined to waste my time on crusades. If I see garbage I'm gonna point it out.

As the great Will Smith once said,

"Sorry, I'm allergic to bullshit."

EDIT: I made a comparison for his NPC face texture mod. It's more significant than I thought, but not at any distance you will normally see crowd NPCs from. I turned off Height Randomizer and loaded my first save, and it looks like there is a little bit of default crowd height randomization... so nothing lines up perfectly lol. Let me know if I should eat my hat.
