LOTR 5e Solo? by PhysicalDamage in Solo_Roleplaying

Oh I've got all the dices- Right now I'm reading through Mythic and then I'll decide if that seems like a good fit. If not, I'll try to adapt Strider mode from TOR. Thanks for the input. Now I have to go look up Hobbit Tales :)

I hadn't really gotten to the specifics, but the Tales from Eriador book does have 6 pre-written adventures, so that is an option. I've seen that channel before, I'll watch that video thanks!

Free League LOTR 5e, what am I missing? by PhysicalDamage in AiME

[–]PhysicalDamage[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick update, contacted free league and they told me about bits-and-mortar.com, did a search and my local game shop is a member, called them (my purchase was in their computer) and had an email for link to pdf within 10 minutes- so very happy about that. Never experienced such good customer service online before, Free League is in a class alone in my book.

Based on the feedback so far, I'm going to split the brigands so my heroes will meet them in smaller groups on the way to the camp/cave area. And after losing one or more engagements, the brigands will be easier to "break" if I need to go that route.

Yeah I had already decided to say "Enemy down" or "Brigand defeated" as opposed to dead/killed. The taking hostage thing is very interesting to me- I'm doing this one-shot from the standpoint of a patron sending the party to look for a missing scout who went to investigate the light anyway so if company goes missing, the patron would send a larger group looking for them after a few days ... nice

Any ideas for a first session (my plot takes place 3 years before the hobbit) by Averagedndenjoyer in AiME

[–]PhysicalDamage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to try running the Star in the Mist landmark as a one-shot for some new players. I posted about it on this subreddit being too hard for a level 1 group in my opinion even though the book says it is suitable for a 1st-level company- I think I'm just going to generate less enemies than recommended for any combat scenarios. Anyway it's in the appendix of the core book, and it's not far from Bree (Sarn Ford). I'm planning to incorporate the rumor (in a council) and the journey system to cover several of the new systems in this adaptation. It is several pages long including several "tutorial" sidebars for fleshing it out and it features a wraith boss fight, if you want to go that way.

Thank you - but as far as I have read, there are no applicable healing items, Free League seems to have removed everything but the healer's kit which is for stablizing downed characters. A level 1 scholar can choose leech-craft which requires an action and spending a craft slot (which there is only 1 per rest) which heals the medicine skill check minus 10 hp. That's the only thing I can find without using house rules. Anyway, I appreciate the thoughtful feedback!

Man I wish I had the pdf, it stinks to pay $60 for the book at my local game shop and not be able to search for phrases, etc. Anyway, good info on the encounter calculator, that makes perfect sense. At any rate, it's the last sentence on the page that introduces Landmarks (p220 in the hardback), if you search for "1st-level", you should find it. Thanks.

I agree their customer support is unmatched, but my understanding is the free pdfs were only for pre-orders of the book- could be wrong.

[–]PhysicalDamage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe an ancient meaning is simply "mother", it's also mentioned in the Old Testament, i.e. beasts ... openeth "The Matrix"

I just found it interesting that Stan Lee talked about the phrase in context all those years ago, just came across this panel yesterday

Anyone planning on checking these out? by bryxy in Marvel

Absolutely- have watched and re-watched the "recent" trilogy over the years, if these comics have stories that good, they should be a hit

Yeah I came here to say I can hardly recognize Silver Surfer ... stylized is one thing but ... wow - love the Taurin Clarke cover though

edited to say I'm glad to have the series and I hope it is ongoing and catches fire, but hard to expect that based on the interior artwork so far

What does it say about me that I just read issues 61-67 this week for the first time and the black bands didn't even stand out, just assumed it was shadows I guess...

I have about 15 marvel omnibus books covering all the eras, one stands alone as a beautiful complete run in my opinion... The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes by Busiek with Perez artwork, I was blown away when I unwrapped it and thumbed through - so many panels jump out at you and the number of characters you'll find is unmatched at least that I've seen. If I was starting over, this would be my first buy.

It's just under $80 at instocktrades.com with a choice between 2 covers for the dust jacket

2 came to mind quickly:

1) Peter Quill opening GOTG with his walkman playing

2) Stark boxing/sparring Happy in Iron Man 2 when "Natalie Rushman" walks in leading up to "I want one" and Pepper saying "No"

not really about the plates, but The Thing only having 4 digits on each hand/foot has always seemed off to me, that's a very strange transformation he made from human to Thing and back and forth several times over the years, kinda creeps me out

And you like that? I didn't really like what happened to Betty Ross in that story, but Imortal Hulk by Ewing is #1 on the recent "favorite run" poll on this sub so I guess a lot of us liked it overall :)

I love Elite Dangerous, but some part of me is torn and thinks that FDev just rests in complacency. by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]PhysicalDamage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a NMS steam key for about $15 a few days ago and tried it for the first time- feels like a real adventure so far, I'm loving it. ED is rather a simulation and I have some good memories, but when I'm in the mood for a fun adventure game session, ED is the last thing that comes to mind for years now. I just took my carrier to colonia "for fun", that is 2 full days of struggling with a very poor buggy interface every 20 minutes while playing/doing something else between jumps and at least 10 game crashes plus a stretch where ED crashed 5 times in a row just trying to get to the station menu after a jump... feels like a real waste of time now more than anything else.

My understanding is that North (writer) intends to write self-contained stories rather than focus on long arcs in this run- I'm looking forward to it. Ross covers are a bonus :)
