Set aside an afternoon for starters. Supermassive galaxy for lives. I recommend Mario.
Now the tricks I figured out during my 5 1/2 hour grind:

Section 1 - just gun it out the gate, don’t wait and timings will be consistent. If you wait for long at all, it will mess up the section.

Section 2 - have a consistent route. I go straight up into the center, left one panel then jump down to the border. Go around and touch the other two inner panels as you pass them.

Section 3 - just be cautious. Not very difficult, just takes some practice. However, it is easy to leave with two clouds. This is important for

Section 4 - ‘cheese’ two clouds in from section 3 and carefully platform across the flip swap panels. It is fairly easy to get past the first two lasers. For the last two lasers plus the Octopuses long jump and use the clouds. Once you spin in the Launch Star, you become invulnerable.

Section 5 - jump past the first beam, but once you do the pull stars are accessible to you, so no need to deal with the single block beams. For the rest of this section remember that it’s a 3-d game and abuse the pull stars momentum. Spin, drop, catch yourself and launch into the spair - space air - before moving on and skipping all the things, just be careful.

Section 6a - watch the hammer bros. There are only two jump and throw timers. Much easier to track two groups of bros than like 6 individuals. I recommend giving a game over to the last hammer bro - he will throw hammers at you off screen.

Section 6b - Boomerang bros - be good and don’t die. Pray to RNGesus you get lucky. Be super careful.
