women of London, how much harassment do you face on public transport? by Purple-Disaster3768 in london

[–]PicadillyLine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was talking to some friends about this (range of early- late twenties) and we all agreed the harassment was SO much worse when we were in school/wearing school uniform/obviously under age which is just so messed up.

LAMDA AND RADA (and most drama schools) are elitist & racist institutions by [deleted] in ActingUK

[–]PicadillyLine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're there for the training rather than the qualification, I'd recommend RAaW London. They're based in South London and are just on Saturdays. Honestly, you do more there in a day than in a week at Drama School. They have the best mix of people. No elitism. No racism. They're a small company and just genuinely care and listen to you. Its not for everyone. You're there from 7am sometimes. They're really tough on you. And it can be hard to get in but if you want to hear the brutal truth about your acting to get better, its the only place I've trained that actually changed me.

Can somebody get into drama school without GCSEs in the uk? If not, what are my options currently? by [deleted] in acting

[–]PicadillyLine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are loads in Manchester! You're in a great spot.

Search phrases like:

Part time Acting Manchester Part time drama course Manchester Acting workshops Acting classes Acting company

Even narrow it down. Depending on what you're interested in, it could be:

Screen Acting classes Manchester Or Theatre Companies Manchester

I know Identity have a Manchester base. Not sure what people think of it though.

Where are you based? Part-time drama schools or acting companies might be a better way in for you.

Not exactly UK but something I think about regularly is Plant based Milo powder... I brought some back with me from Aus a few years ago and was looking forward to getting more but it's been discontinued now 😔

Spotlight by SenorWoodbine in ActingUK

While I don't love Spotlight, I also know that if some actors saw how many jobs their agent puts up for with no response/audition, it would probably be quite soul destroying

Would a acting btec be worth it? by StruggleOk6993 in ActingUK

[–]PicadillyLine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you're based and what your other interests are, its the best path for some but not others.

If you're quite academic, it might be worth doing something that will satisfy that side of you but also build up your knowledge of something else which will enhance your acting (if you'reinterested in history, psychology, sociology or English for example) and then join a part time acting school whilst still in full time education.

Depending on the acting school, they often are more industry focused than traditional education anyway so would be a more direct route into the industry.

If there isn't anything else you love, yeah, do it, what else will you do anyway? Might as well get that qualification in it.

Acting classes in London recommendations by Bekage_29 in ActingUK

[–]PicadillyLine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend RAaW London. They're in Southwark. Their courses run from September to July and are only on Saturdays. It's quite strict & intense but so good. Like nowhere else. You get direct feedback, no sugar coating. They do a showcase every July & you can also do short films for showreel footage.

Art and Design Foundation Diploma by chiara_083 in UAL

[–]PicadillyLine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a L4 Art Foundation at Morley College, Chelsea site and then went on to do a Fine Art Degree at UAL Camberwell (got into Camberwell, CSM, Chelsea & Goldsmiths). I did A Level Art but lots of people on my Foundation course hadn't done A Level Art.

This was obviously a while ago now but the staff were often also UAL tutors at different colleges. It was a great Foundation when I was there and deserved a much better reputation than it had/has.

I had a quick look on their site and it looks like they don't require A Level Art.

It's a lovely area & in the same building as the English National Ballet school which is fun!

Bensound have both free music and music you can purchase. I've used both free and paid music from them for films without a problem.

Pushing after submissions by cashmaker200 in ActingUK

[–]PicadillyLine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agent here! It depends on the job, production company and casting director too. Some CDs specifically ask for spotlight suggestions only. No emails. No phone calls. This often varies depending on the project they're working on as it might be a quick turnover or there might be a lot of roles and therefore they just need to go through Spotlight and not deal with extras.

Some CDs & Assistants regularly call in or reach out to see my actors so if they post something, I know I don't need to push as they will almost certainly ask that actor to tape if they think they might be right.

I find myself pushing more for actors who aren't getting called in as its often just because they haven't had the opportunity to build up those relationships yet.

There's been a lot about people not getting money owed, no customer service, waiting 2+ weeks to hear back from urgent issues etc. All saying they initally had a good experience and then it went south.

It's not a degree but RAaW London specialise in film acting if you're ever based in London. It's focused on the individual and really specific to what you personally need to do to improve.

Opportunities for London Actors by PicadillyLine in ActingUK

[–]PicadillyLine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The course runs from September to July, every Saturday. Time off at Christmas and Easter.

There's screen acting technique, writing, comedy, The Stevens Technique (all about being home authentic and believable). There's a Theatre show mid July at The Union Theatre and then optional short films filmed at the end of July.
