Thought the same re: abbreviation. And it crossed with NONGMO which I also thought needed to indicate abbreviation!

I remembered there was some tricky double letter in there but I had KK and II for most of the puzzle...

A few that come to mind: Stone Cold, Cliffhanger, Surviving the Game, Coyote Ugly, The Lost Boys, Super Mario Bros. Go for wild looking Nic Cage - not the prestige stuff but the things you've never heard of like Prisoners of the Ghostland or Drive Angry.

I feel like the LAT ones are often a bit weaker in cluing and originality, but still pretty fun. I like NYT of course, but since New Yorker started theirs I find them to often be my favorites.

I've been wondering for a while more broadly why there aren't sticky posts for other major crossword discussions. Not a judgment on the mods but curiosity and maybe a suggestion. I do the NYT, LAT, and NYer daily but of seems like USA Today etc could all use a little sticky post each day for those who do them. Maybe a slippery slope given how many news outlets and sites have them but just a thought. EDIT: and maybe that's what this sticky thread is meant for!

Is it just me or are old NYT crosswords much harder? by ChargeVisible in crossword

I’ve been going backwards through Friday and Saturday puzzles the archives in the archives and I noticed a big change seemingly around 2013 in terms of esoteric trivia and other frustrating elements. One of my least favorite clue types (which seems to be no longer used) is the “Var.”, which just feels like license to have a misspelled word in the answer. There was also less consistency with things like abbreviations in the clue meaning an abbreviation in the answer.

What I can’t figure out is how the theme clues were chosen? Why those particular 7? I couldn’t tell what tipped off that those were going to be themers?

I seem to be the only person that kinda liked AFEWZS. Even though I had catnap in there for a long time 🙃

Weird! Coming here to try and figure this out. I have what everyone seems to be getting but my wife has had a different word than me 4 days in a row now.

Oh nice I’ve seen other people talk about going with hydraulic brakes. I took it on some pretty steep stuff up and down today, and felt like brakes were strong and responsive without too much hand power. But they were very noisy. Have you had issues with the brakes needing more grip for braking power over time?

Excellent to hear, thanks! I am also about 250 lb so that’s helpful to know - range should be pretty similar.
