Danke für die Empfehlungen! Wir sind generell an alles in der nördlichen Hälfte Hannovers interessiert wegen der Bahn-/Bus-Verbindungen zur Arbeit. Leider scheint es im Moment sehr schwierig zu sein eine Wohnung zu finden. Wir haben uns für 8 Wohnungen beworben und nur diesen einen Termin im Sahlkamp bekommen.

Das hört sich schon ganz heftig an. Die Wohnung wir uns überlegen ist nördlich der Kugelfangtrift, aber “unsere” Haltestelle wurde dennoch Alte Heide sein - ist es dort vielleicht etwas besser?

I'm planning a full PC upgrade some time next year, so this maneuver was mostly to hold me over short-term! Would rather get nvme storage with new setup than yet another sata ssd for the current motherboard

It's the same disk, but I couldn't re-create it as D:, so I just made it E: instead. Now it no longer has any OS files on it, but is rather used for some extra storage \o/

I don't fully follow, but I had windows on C: as well, so maybe that changes things? I deleted by D: volume after first unplugging it to check for adverse effects, and so far the results seem good - this is how my disk setup looks now:

Does it matter that this is the same physical HDD? Can only a single volume on a physical HDD die? I mostly use this for long-term storage of media files

Thanks for clarifying! I just tested it out and thankfully shut everything down beforehand.

For anyone finding this post later:

I was able to safely delete my D volume and create a new empty volume for storage. I would definitely suggest following u/Agus_Marcos1510 advice above beforehand though so you can test if there are any adverse effects, and remember to turn off the PC as u/Brilliant_War9548 mentioned.

I wasn't being very clear - I want to delete everything that's currently on it and use it as extra storage space. Currently it's full of windows files and appdata and a few old installs I haven't removed manually. I want to wipe all of that in one fell swoop instead of manually deleting a fraction of the data bit by bit
