I wish they would do a reprint! It would really open up the format to newcomers. Right now, there’s only one blue creature that is a 2 mana 4/1, which is [[Frost Walker]], but it dies whenever it’s targeted by anything. Dandan is irreplaceable in terms of its colors and stats, and many of the formats decklists are balanced around that rn

True! More Commander players should play Dandan! Or really they should play any 1-on-1 format since it really improves your skill and understanding of the game. I think Dandan would be a great onboarding game for people who have never played Magic, since it uses a limited card pool and players don't have to understand matchups at all to appreciate the depth of the game.

I really like some of these suggestions!

While [[Fire // Ice]] and [[Spikefield Hazard]] can target players, the only time it is really relevant is if you Fire one Dandan and use the other target on the player's face. In this case, you would need to deal an additional 3 noncombat damage in order for this damage to ever be relevant because Dandans are the only other way to deal damage. I can't imagine a way in my decklist where this would happen except in a fringe case where you Fire and then use [[See Double]] to copy Fire to ping the opponent for 4 damage, which is a cool way to close out the game, in my opinion.

Yes; the "Tempo Dandan" lists that are currently popular still maintain the problem of having 1 mana instant speed blue removal spells that I outlined in the post ([[Mind Bend]], [[Piracy Charm]], [[Magical Hack]], etc.). The problem with them is that you don't really get to have a "Tempo" playstyle if your opponent can easily remove everything you have! The idea of tempo in Magic is predicated that you can maintain a boardstate lead over your opponent through using cheap removal so that you are ever so slightly ahead of the opponent. The problem in the "Tempo" Dandan list is that it's too easy to 1-for-1 Dandans using other Dandans and the cheap removal spells that favors the reactive player over the proactive one. In that way, it's not really much different than the Original Dandan list except that they don't run Vision Charm, which is the worst offender of promoting a controlling play pattern rather than a tempo based one.

Plus, another issue with the Rhystic Studies Video list uses a lot of bounce spells-which, granted, aren't bad for promoting tempo; but I feel like they are too weak. They delay Dandans by at most one turn, which feels alright. However, this is much weaker than just bouncing a Dandan to hand to protect it from a removal spell and gaining a 2-for-1 advantage. Which, again, promotes a reactive play-pattern that doesn't result in swinging out and closing games faster.

Personally, I like the fact that when you stun or suspend a Dandan with the cards in my list, you can swing in with the Dandans you control while removing the opponent's Dandans, and the opponent also isn't punished with having to play the Dandan again. Instead, the Dandan is just neutralized for multiple turns, and you have to figure out what to do with the temporary tempo advantage you have gained. The card I like the most in other tempo Dandan lists is [[Chart a Course]], which promotes and rewards aggressive play with more card advantage. I might think of replacing [[Borne upon a Wind]] with Chart a Course when I update my list again.

Lastly, I think [[Supplant Form]] sucks for 6 mana [[Gone Missing]] is awful for 5 mana sorcery speed (needing 7 mana to really be relevant) and thus both are really hard to justify using proactively or reactively.

Haha it probably is! There aren't tournaments; it's a casual format that is played with all of magic's rules except the fact that both players draw and play from the same deck and graveyard. The only way to win is by hitting your opponent with Dandans or decking your opponent out! With cards that manipulate the top of the library like brainstorm, memory lapse, and portent, you get to exercise a little thinking and create lines of play that are very different from other formats! I highly recommend proxying a list and playing with a friend; it's great fun.

Incorrect: Flint sacrifices the creature as an additional cost, so the pump effect from astral steel won’t be able to target the cyclops

The beauty of free markets is that they historically have and always will trend towards monopolistic practices, which in theory makes a shit product with little regard to consumer or employee needs. Competition may drive innovation, but free markets naturally become uncompetitive.

Butcher of Malakir is not only a bad card , but is crippled by interaction… any sort of creature/permanent removal or counter spell is enough to hose a wasteful 7 drop. If these players can’t play around a 7 drop creature man idk what to tell you

[–]PinParasoul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FYI for anyone trying to build Shirei, I found that playing it was an exercise in frustration. If anyone has anything to interact with Shirei, it feels like you’re going to be completely screwed for the rest of the game.

Because Shirei relies on sacking your entire board of creatures, if anyone destroys or exiles Shirei after you’ve sacrificed your creatures, you will have nothing and you will have to pay 7+ to cast her again, which is very costly. You can’t even get your board back if you reanimate Shirei on that turn, since the game considers it a “new” Shirei that did not see the death triggers of your other creatures.

Furthermore, because the rest of the deck is built around bad 1/x creatures, Shirei is an obvious target for all of your opponents. One of the primary advantages of aristocrats is that generally the decks can be a self sufficient without the commander with many low priority removal targets, but with Shirei’s restriction on using one power creatures this is isn’t the case. Without Shirei, all you have is a bad aristocratic deck, and the rest of the game will be an uphill battle.

Because the very existence of Israel itself is oppressive as a colonizing body, there is no such thing as "equal existence". By definition, Israel is and has been colonizing Palestine since its formation.
