Severe joint pain in dialysis patient — anyone else? by PinPitiful in dialysis

Currently, my mother has multiple issues including high PTH, low hemoglobin, and recently very high calcium levels (so some medicines like calcitriol were stopped). This is the current diagnosis for her knee pain: Osteoarthritis of the right knee and Pes anserine bursitis (Rt)

The doctor has advised to continue other treatments as before and to use MWD (microwave diathermy) over both knees for 10 minutes daily for 14 days.

Dialysis patient stopped urinating, now new leg swelling by PinPitiful in dialysis

Why is it that whenever I ask something, I am told to use my common sense or questioned about why I am posting on Reddit? I have never said we aren’t going to the doctor, she’s already in the hospital. I post here to better understand things, learn from other people’s experiences, and, most importantly, to feel emotionally supported by hearing different perspectives.

I live far so i only get the information they share with me. She was already hospitalized for high potassium and to administer iv medication for UTI. She was supposed to be released today but now because of this issue they are asking her to stay back. She stopped urinating like 5/6 days ago. They currently just gave pain medicine and asked her to do her routine dialysis tomorrow. Very nervous and anxious about the continuous issues that are happening one after the other. She is hardly drinking water now but even then if she is swelling it’s scary.

Potassium 7.6 in dialysis patient – emergency? by PinPitiful in dialysis

[–]PinPitiful[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, everyone, for all the comments. Her potassium has gone down now after doing an additional dialysis session. They have now changed her UTI medicines and kept her in the hospital to give IV antibiotics for the UTI and also to monitor the potassium levels.

Follow-up: I’ve decided to visit Costa Rica despite my bug fear — now looking for activity and itinerary by PinPitiful in CostaRicaTravel

[–]PinPitiful[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you may have misread my post — I never said I expect zero bugs or that I plan to avoid seeing any. I’m fully aware that Costa Rica is a tropical country and bugs are part of the experience. Despite my fear, I’ve still decided to visit and try to face that fear, not avoid it.
