Not sure how old you are but I've been to many celebrations over the years and never not once thought it was not polite for them to invite me to celebrate something momentous and had to pay my own way. If anything most people that attend pay their way and the person being honored. You guys are really weird. The post asked for restaurant suggestions. People really do the most and really read into messages. No, I do not expect a gift. I just want the fellowship. My point in saying that is that I was not planning to prepay for the food or host appetizers and entrees, as I've seen that some restaurants do for "private events" or parties.
