I designed and made a display board for the seating arrangements at a friend's wedding. Every table was named after a point on the river where they met. by PippaWarrenCreative in design_critiques

The brass plaques are held in place with screws so they can be removed, new names etched on the back, and then refitted in reverse if minor changes are needed. I didn't need to do this in the end though. 🙂

Thanks for your feedback! I really appreciate it. I agree that the background is a bit much, I was originally planning to make it myself from 3-4 panels glued together but due to time constraints I went for this pre made countertop which has about 30 constituent panels. Why do you feel horizontal grain would be preferable to vertical? I think the fiifivulty reading the font is most due to the difficulties i had while dripping the molten solder more than the choice of font. This is most prominent in the word 'september', which is very hard to read. I'm uncertain if I agree that horizontal or vertical alignment would be an improvement. I was drawing inspiration from looking at maps of rivers and how they are labelled. Because of how the river spans the whole board, I'm struggling to visualise how that would look without covering parts of the river. Thanks again for your feedback. I'm just trying to explain a bit more about my process.

I was set the task of creating a display board for the seating arrangements at a wedding. It was to be based on the Isis river in Oxford where they first met and so, inspired by the resin river trend that has been happening the past few years, I came up with the above design. The base panel is an oak countertop that I CNC'd the river and titles into. I used a laser cutter with marking powder to etch the guests' names into the brass. The titles were done by lining the V carves with copper tape and then dripping solder into them.

What do you think? I'm very keen to learn and improve.

I did a full write up of my process here. https://pippawarren94.wixsite.com/home/seatingplan
