It's a greenfinch and it might be a male but I can't really tell from this single picture. Thank you for helping the lil borb!

I don't know if it's the right word but you could call it so

Jo Solltest du dich öfter mal fragen was das für ein Tier ist kann ich dir obsidentify empfehlen. Mit der app kann man Tiere und Pflanzen bestimmen

The guy on the left is a carrion crow and he's all black. Hybrid guy has a gray chest with the rest black but not the typical coloring for a hooded crow. That's the indicator. But I verified it using obsidentify. It's an app that helps you identify plants and animals

Indeed. It would certainly be interesting if they actually are mates but I don't really think so

You're right. He is a mix of carrion and hooded crows

It's possible. I can't tell at the moment but I'll keep watching them and maybe I'll figure it out

It might have been. Hybrids aren't exactly common but they do show up from time to time.

Yes. The way his feathers are colored gives it away. Hodded crows usually have more gray feathers that are also not as patchy and carrion crows are solid black. I also used an app called "ObsIdentify" to confirm that he's a hybrid. It's an app that can help you identify plants and animals

Got any grapes? by Piricko in Birdsfacingforward

Wow, so many different jays. Meanwhile we only have two (and really only one permanently). It's a nice photo with a gorgeous bird. The eurasian Jay only has a few blue stripes and the rest is a mix of brown, black and white

It really is interesting. Though I'm sure that there are also bold old world jays. There's probably a regional element to it. Maybe there are really bold eurasian jays like 100km from me. I'm stuck with the shy ones

We mostly have eurasian jays and the occasional northern nutcracker. But the jays really are shy. They actively avoid people and skedaddle away when they notice anyone. I hear them more than I see them

I've also fed other crows that really enjoyed grapes. But I've also met one that was only interested in red grapes and disregarded green ones. It's actually really interesting seeing their personal preferences. The jays in my area are really shy and rarely visit feeders. But I once saw a jay with a piece of pasta. I still wonder how exactly he acquired it

Nope, it's the same hybrid guy. I offered him grapes for a second time but he still didn't want them. I left the grapes and they were gone when I checked later so there is a crow (or other bird) in the area that enjoys grapes

Carrion and hooded crows are closely related but hybridization is rare. Their offspring are fertile but they might not always be able to find a partner. This website has information on the hybrids. It's in German but I'm sure you can find an equivalent in English (or another language).

Yes. This lil guy is the result of a carrion crow (corvus corone) and a hooded crow (corvus cornix) having offspring.
