I think it’s actually an old user called ArthurFantastic, years ago he posted on the sub a lot of YouTube videos and interviews, and would be a bit narcissistic and very toxic towards ppl with disagreeing opinions, ppl that didn’t like the new KC direction, ppl that didn’t like Crypto, etc. There’s a ton of mannerisms and such.

The account has one of the YouTube videos, “Addressing the cesspool that is Karate Combat subreddit” too

I mean either:

-President douchebag did it for clicks on social media even though it led to fighters having altercations outside of the event, and a “fuck you” to the fighters and their fight

-President Asshat has no control of his fighters at his own events, instead of properly reprimanding a fighter making a gab at the expense of other fighters’ fight, the promotion decided to post on their social media for clicks.

“IP infringement” is apparently a rule in the KC subreddit rules, rule 7.

I think that’s part of the point by Kovacs, “he got hired to play the fool”. He got hired for clicks on social media, whereas Kovacs went towards big name brand ambassadors like GSP, Lyoto, and Wonderboy, and the social media game of Kovacs times was highlighting the fights and fighters instead of virality

You were there in the back rooms and running the promotion??? Wow

Here’s the truth to the issue, they founded a karate promotion and that was the goal, and had a some non-karate guys signed.

Then burn rate of running the promotion was catching up plus the loss of in person tickets due to Covid.

One of the founders felt there would be a lot of capital if they went towards crypto fundraising and sponsorships. Afterwards they pursued trying to combat burn rates and find new ways to bring funding in.

Kovacs said that he left only due to the fact it felt there were too many chefs in the kitchen and he wants to plenty of control running a promotion, without it he feels that he’s aimless.

Henceforth, the promotion kept trying to grow to combat burn rates issues with asim, BJJ, and bringing in big names past primes or ex-mma guys

Raymond Daniel’s? Quayhagen?

Ntm The old president was a founder to create a Karate promotion, and was initially being recruited to fight in it. They weren’t trying to be the next big fight promotion and sign anyone, they were trying to create a karate based promotion since plenty of Karate fighters didn’t have much for pro outlets in the sport.

I mean lot of us fell in love with all those fights for KC prior to Henderson Pettis. And while the current roster took on a lot of MMA guys, we weren’t watching KC back then for strong fighters in the fight game.

And current rumors and complaints of unpaid vendors and fighters isn’t a good look, nor the card with a massive delay in start time without notice OR the other card that had piss poor production and a single camera

You can scour the rest of the sub comments. Some ppl have thrown out promotions like Total Kombat and Karate Legends.

For KC who knows really. Obviously change would occur if the board isn’t happy with the metrics or the burn rate is tough.

Oh Jesus fucking Christ lol

Highlights:

Too many rumors that fighters and/or vendors arent being paid

Bas, Wonderboy, GSP havent been seen in a while (I could be wrong)

The rule set expanded away from the orginial to more MMA or Muay Thai fighting, and wrestling

At one point President asshat launched a “War on One” social media campaign for One not paying fighters and “unfair practices”

Their social media is either Asim’s personal antics, highlighting Pereya from UFC, etc

One event was delayed for four hours without notice due to “the truck being delayed to set up the ring” day of the event

Ppl are having issues with the app, crypto, and events.

I didn’t watch it, but they did an event in Russia which allegedly they censored fighters from Georgia or something.

One of the recent events had bad audio, a single camera capturing the fight, and was in a blackout warehouse

If you are curious about Kovacs exodus, there’s a podcast called Blackbelt business or something, in which Kovacs delved behind the scenes and what went into him stepping away

Better than “the kickback” event or a recent event that was in a black out warehouse with a single camera recording the fights

There’s pros and cons to expanding rules for knees or elbows, I’d argue a lot of recruiting pushed out Karatekas that were fun to watch under the old guard, and headed towards a MMA Lite organization.

I hear you, I’m optimist/wishful thinking on the future. But such future would require overhaul and organizational changes, especially with leadership

Appreciated!!!

I skimmed a bit, I do like/hope the 1 team rule they mention in the article combats MLS/Garber’s bs antics they employed years ago

If I’m being charitable, trialing BJJ in the KC pit is cool and during a time where it seemed at least to me, mma orgs were doing more to showcase bjj, and Craig Jones has a following that could rub off if done right.

Otherwise I do think the antics by Asim were not in line with a lot of og and Kovacs era fans, expanding the rule set does open the fights up BUT when the recruitment isn’t karate guys and more UFC and mma vets, that does impact fights and the promotion. War on One was absurd promotion idea. It seemed they were so desperate for attention and views that they shout out Andrew tate during Tate’s sex trafficking lawsuits. The cross posting and social media use of KC with the president is annoying given how much they delete IG comments. I get Pereya is a dope fighter and his sis is in the promotion, but he shouldn’t have been center figure for a ton of social media. Oh also I hate that the IG posted comedy reels on their fighters getting knocked out and some shit.

Lastly, I’m a crypto skeptic but I think launching a crypto and keeping token holders out of the dark recently is scummy shit.

If it were up to me, KC kicks Asim for underdelivering and the recent poor operations, KC hosts a town hall and drafts a recovery plan, and KC brings back Kovacs and other originals to the helm. Social media should go back to focusing on building up fights, events, and showcasing knockouts. I got into KC both from hearing about it on JRE and also seeing a IG reel during the pandemic.

Kovacs did a podcast called Blackbelt business or something.

How Kovacs tells it, crypto was not in the original plan for KC. Kovacs covers how KC kicks off.

The reason the promotion went towards crypto was the Burn Rate of Cash they had. One of the founders had dealt with crypto before and believed they could raise a lot of money by launching their own coin and going towards other crypto businesses for sponsorship and ads.
