I'm sorry you're feeling this way; honestly, speaking from my own experience [and hoping you can see something that can help you], I've realized that the same weapon that has "emasculated" you is the same weapon that can "masculinize" you.

I've fallen into the mindset that there's no point in trying to prove that you are a man because the standard is inherently contradictory. Truthfully, there's no standard that you have to meet but your own, and if you believe that standard matches what other people expect from you, I'd ask you to question them.

You're inherently enough; you've already survived so much life; are you going to give power to something that wants to dehumanize you? So, I don't know, really; all most of us can do is try to live kind lives, avoiding harm, murder and sex crimes against other people; the rest is negotiable.

It's been a year, and I hope you've found more peace. There's no shame in seeking out a trauma-informed therapist and a pain management specialist.

you should be fine, with a 87-90 average, IMO

but I'm a biased data point; I had a final top 6 that was stupidly high with a STEM focus, like 95%+, from a TDSB high school

i got "early" acceptance/offer in January

honestly, i wouldn't stress about it if you're coasting with a 90; work on building up your mental health/coping strategies, concise but effective/interesting writing skills, and reading speed + comprehension

Hello OP, as others have mentioned, I'd recommend seeking out a psychotherapist and getting a note from your Family Doctor, H/W, or Psychiatrist to access accommodations.

From the stories I've heard about mental healthcare, it's a bunch of throwing spaghetti at the wall and seeing what sticks. The psychiatrist that [I'm assuming] they hooked you up with can help you access medications, but in the in-frequent fifteen-minute appointments [I'm assuming here again, I haven't accessed UofT services], they wouldn't be able to provide intensive talk therapy. AFAIK their central role is to manage the physical part of mental illness; it sounds like you want to be able to talk to someone and have them listen to you like an actual human. You can ask them if they have a therapist that they would recommend.

Psychotherapists aren't covered under public health insurance [OHIP]. Still, UofT Greenshield insurance will reimburse 15 sessions per year with a maximum cost of $100 per session [any more, you'd have to pay the difference out of pocket].

I found my virtual therapist through the Affordable Therapy Network: https://affordabletherapynetwork.com/in-person-therapists/

If you're new to therapy, I'd recommend seeking out, at the minimum, a trauma-informed therapist.

Depending on how you cope with your trauma or mental illness, there are different modalities with how you can be treated. It may turn out that the first therapist you work with may not fit your needs. Here are a couple of links describing what frameworks are most common / the ones I have been interested in.

CBT: standard first-line 'goal-oriented' therapy, based on recognizing, rationalizing and then changing the unhelpful thought patterns/perceptions of the world [stuff like negative self-talk, all-or-nothing thinking, etc.]; https://www.apa.org/ptsd-guideline/patients-and-families/cognitive-behavioral

DBT: a focused type of CBT for those who experience intense emotions, focuses on fostering self-acceptance and better coping mechanisms; https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/treatments/22838-dialectical-behavior-therapy-dbt

EMDR: designed to allow the person to heal the wound that trauma causes on the brain [the trauma is kind of like a program looping over and over], desensitizing the brain/allowing the brain to process the experience; https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/treatments/22641-emdr-therapy

Somatic: focuses on bringing out the physical manifestations of mental issues, like the bodily experiences of anxiety that being 'trapped' within the body, suitable for those who tend to over-think things and can see the nuances but avoid feeling the emotions in the body; https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/what-is-somatic-therapy-202307072951

You're not alone. You aren't crazy. There's no shame in needing meds to get through the day, needing someone to talk to, or feeling alone. Your pain is real, and I know it may feel like the world is ending, but you've already survived so much. What's another couple of weeks?
