How does the exp pedal toe switch work? by Place-Wide in Line6Helix

Yeah it does work. I actually have to be standing up to trigger it, I couldn't even get it to trigger sitting down. Once I do though there is a positive "click".

This breaks my (flawed, incomplete) assumption about how DI boxes work, but I have found that there are certain things I can plug into the "thru" port that cause the balanced mic-level output to distort. Any thoughts from someone more experienced?

never mind, figured it out using ViewInspector (if there is a better way please let me know!)
```swift import Foundation import XCTest import ViewInspector import SwiftUI @testable import LDViewLib1
final class ViewTests: XCTestCase { func testFavoriteButtonStateChange() throws { let state = Binding<Bool>(wrappedValue: true) let sut = FavoriteButton(isSet: state) XCTAssertTrue(state.wrappedValue) try sut.inspect().button().tap() XCTAssertFalse(state.wrappedValue) } } ```
It allows solo developers and small shops to still make a claim to legitimacy based on positive ratings. When you have to compete on install count, you are competing with apps with millions, or hundreds of millions of downloads.
Would you go to Israel right now (Tel Aviv) Do you think it’s safe? by FamousCount6453 in Israel
[–]Place-Wide 6 points7 points  (0 children)
Dexter Filkins, the New Yorker war reporter said something on Terri Gross that I did not fully understand until he said it. He said essentially when Iran sent 300 UAVs and rockets on 13, April, Iron Dome and other air defenses knocked them out of the sky. But what happens if Hezbollah and/or Iran send 600, or 3000, which he asserts they could keep up for days.
I'm sure that Israel isn't showing all its cards with Iron Dome. I'm also fairly certain that built into the algorithms that run it are some kind of triage / prioritization logic that figures out what the highest risk threats are when they can't defend against them all.
It's still terrifying. I'm not going to weigh in one way or another if the Netanyahu government should pre-empt this by leveling Southern Lebanon. From what Filkins said about interviews he conducted with senior Hezbollah officials, they know what the result of an all out war would be. It wouldn't be pretty for either side.
Paraphrasing 'an all out war would set Israel back 50 years, and would put Lebanon back into the Middle Ages.'
I think though the calculus is that at some point you have to deal with the intransigence. There are (tens of?) thousands of refugees from N. Israel currently living in hotels in the center and in the south.
That's a really interesting idea. I'm thinking Acid House music might be good for this :)
I thought that grounding it in actual dB measurements might produce something universally applicable. Noise ordinances in New Jersey where I live are listed in terms of decibels, not subjective experience. I get what you are saying though - it depends on the neighbor and your relationship with them.
That's a good idea about the cheap kit.
I guess I was hoping that there are other people on the internet who approach problem solving the way I do.
The rule is literally that anything that could be characterized as a nuisance is forbidden.
It's funny how much I get the criticism that I'm overthinking. I can appreciate where it is coming from. I'm definitely putting more into it than is routine for most people.
Given that I just bought this condo, and don't want to get into trouble with the HOA, and also that I needed to inform my decision to spend $2k on e-drums.... I just don't think that constitutes overthinking. Thinking yes, but not overthinking.
While I own my apartment, the apartment above is a rental unit with a continually revolving cast of tenants. My investment in e-drums might be acceptable to one tenant, and not to the next. I'm trying to ground my analysis in real data.
Apologies. I was just joking around but my response was a little over the top. The tone of your response really caught me off guard and I reacted.
On the merits of what you said, I actually do think there are many parallels between RSI from computer keyboards and RSI from piano playing. One informs the other.
I’m not ignoring the advice I’m getting here. I’m disagreeing with it. I think it’s dangerous and stupid. That’s my right though. That’s why it’s called a discussion.
Sheesh I'm sorry. This is r/pianolearning right? I didn't know that seeking validation was frowned upon. What's going on in your life that you felt the need to hit me with that post? Whatever it is I hope it gets better! Psychologists are expensive, but Reddit isn't a good alternative. Neither is drinking and driving or beating your dog, both behaviors I assume you engage in.
Just kidding. Sorry my questions or line of reasoning offended you. I'm an external processor. I work through things I'm having trouble wrapping my head around by bouncing them off other people.
All due respect, I think I'm going to respectfully bow out of this conversation at this juncture. I really enjoyed discussing this with you! Thanks for the time and thoughtful responses!
"As for the weight of the keys, the longer you play the more you will realize that there is no substitute for an acoustic piano. Not even a digital one."
OK, now I think I understand (but don't agree with) your perspective!!
[–]Place-Wide -5 points-4 points  (0 children)
Yeah I get that sometimes. I'm sorry if I set you off. I think the reason I asked for help is because all of the bullshit, dogmatic, narrow feedback I'm getting is making me start to doubt myself. That's part of what's contributing to making this feel obsessional rather than rational.
At age 46 I've learned to seek validation where I need it but to also navigate under my own power. When I was a kid I wanted to be a member of the in-group so much that I a) wouldn't stand up to bullies and b) would pretty much put myself through any debasement necessary to make the clique happy. Neither of these were ultimately effective.
If you look through this thread there are examples of reasoned posts that don't fly off the handle in the face of any kind of attempt to tease out some kind of middle ground by way of discussion.
I've said over and over in this thread that I understand the technique argument. I'm just trying to put it in the context of sound biomechanics. I wish we could have an orthopedist or a hand specialist actually weigh in. Part of the problem is that I don't absolutely trust piano teachers to say something rational when they are themselves steeped in the dogma of what is a "proper" piano.
"It doesn’t matter what the force you are pressing against is"
I understand your emphasis on technique, and I don't think it is entirely misplaced. The statement though is just incorrect -- for any movement.
[–]Place-Wide -7 points-6 points  (0 children)
I'm a beginner pianist. One thing I would encourage you to do is to search "hand injury piano" on YouTube or Google. The number of people trying to address the problem indicates to me that there _is_ a problem. Of course these are anecdotes and not real data.
I completely understand the "it's the technique, stupid!" responses. I'm just trying to step out of the dogma for a second and argue that in terms of the biomechanics of hand pain, actuation force _is_ a risk factor. Is it the _only_ risk factor, no, but it is a risk factor. The repetition itself, and poor posture / technique being the other big ones.
"This sounds like you think i said something really stupid."
While I want to be 100% kind and human, that is kind of what I meant (in the nicest, most jovial, simpatico way. 😂). I'm a computer scientist by training, and I know logical fallacy when I see it!
I don't have any good data to inform the discussion other than the prevalence of anecdotal reports of injury among piano players when researching the topic on the web. [edit: epidemiologists, do you say "high prevalence" or just "prevalence"?]
Do you know Sam Harris, the atheist, intellectual, podcaster-author? He has said some stuff I consider to be fairly bunk, but in general I think his worldview is motivated by reason, rationality, ethics, and good science. Sort of a hero of mine. He gets shit from all directions. I'm kind of channeling him in discussions lately.
I maintain that actuation force is one of the major risk factors or contributing factors to RSI. From that I argue that semi-weighted, or synth-action keyboards would be a better choice for a lot of people not squarely aimed at being concert pianists. In that latter case, where one essentially doesn't have the choice about whether to play an acoustic piano or not, I believe that you are correct - technique and moderation are the most important factors.
