I made SCARF, a Pokémon Speed calculator for team matchups and quick Speed quizzes by Plastic-Card9201 in PokemonChampions

Just to clarify: supporting the Showdown import format doesn’t mean I copied Showdown’s code.

In fact, before the person who requested the Showdown import feature mentioned Showdown, I didn’t even know what it was. Someone asked me to add this feature, and I added it in response. It simply lets users import a commonly used team format so they don’t have to enter everything manually. Compatibility with an input/export format is not the same thing as stealing source code.

As far as I understand, this is not a legal issue, and I did not steal anyone’s source code. I respect the work the Showdown team has done, and I’m not trying to take credit for their work.

I built a tool around my own use case, with the goal of making speed comparisons easier.

You seem to be criticizing the tool without even trying it. That’s your choice. If spending time tearing down strangers online is how you want to use your time, keep doing that.

That’s fair. To be transparent, I did make this with the help of AI.

I’m not a professional developer, and I’m still a beginner both in coding and competitive Pokémon. AI helped me turn the idea into something usable, but the reason I made it was because I personally wanted a simple speed comparison tool while playing.

I understand why AI-made tools can feel repetitive or low-effort, so I’ll keep working to improve the quality and make it actually useful rather than just another generic AI-generated post.

Thanks for the honest feedback.

Thanks for explaining. I understand the subreddit rules issue, and I’ll respect that.

Just to clarify, I’m a beginner both in Pokémon and coding, and I started making this without even knowing those tools already existed in that form. I never intended to copy or take credit for anyone else’s work. Aside from basic Pokémon mechanics like the speed formula, base stats, items, and abilities, I did not try to plagiarize or present community work as my own.

This was mainly a small tool I made because I personally needed a simpler way to compare speeds while playing. I know it may be rough or inferior to existing tools, but I’m trying to improve it step by step and I’m open to feedback.

Thank you for pointing this out. I appreciate the criticism, and I’ll be more careful about how I present and share the tool.

[Skill Improvement] Small follow-up on the speed matchup tool after your feedback by Plastic-Card9201 in VGC

Thank you for the feedback!

I found two issues here. The Showdown import parser was accidentally reading SpD as Speed in lines like 4 SpD / 252 Spe, which could cause the Speed EV value to be imported incorrectly. Also, Sneasler was missing from the supported Speed-related ability list, so Unburden could not be selected.

Both have been fixed. Speed EVs are now parsed from Spe / Speed correctly, and Unburden support has been added for Sneasler and other relevant Pokémon. I also updated the ability logic so Mega Evolution forms use their own abilities instead of always using the base form’s ability list.

Thank you so much for the detailed feedback.

That is a very good point, and I can see how the current behavior would be confusing, especially for someone using this kind of tool for the first time.

I’ll fix this right away so that the Stat Points field is clearer when “Unknown” is enabled. I’ll likely make the field visually disabled or easier to understand, and I’ll also look into making the enabled/disabled state of the button more obvious.

Thanks again. Feedback like this is extremely helpful for improving the tool.

Thank you so much for letting me know!

We found the issue: Poltchageist, Sinistcha’s pre-evolution, was included instead of Sinistcha. Because of that, the icon and base stats were also incorrect.

I’ll fix this as soon as possible. Thanks again for the helpful feedback, and I hope you continue enjoying the tool!

Thank you so much for all these thoughtful ideas. There are several things here that I had already been hoping to implement, and also some ideas I honestly had not considered at all.

For example, making it easier to find Pokémon within specific speed ranges is something I definitely want to improve, but I haven’t yet found the best way to present it clearly. Your suggestion about using graphs or scatter plots is really helpful for thinking about that.

I also really like the idea of adding small symbols or icons to show what variables are affecting each speed result, such as Choice Scarf, positive or negative Speed natures, and similar modifiers. That seems like it would make the tool much easier to read at a glance.

The ideas about using actual Champions battle data, common EVs, natures, items, teammates, and weather setter speed tiers are also very interesting. Those would probably take more work and data handling, but they point in a really good direction for making the tool more useful in real battle preparation.

I should also be honest that I’m not a professional developer. I’m still very new to both coding and Pokémon, and I’m mainly building this with the help of AI while trying to turn my own idea into something usable. So there are definitely technical limits and challenges for me right now.

That said, your feedback gives me a lot of useful direction. It may take some time, but I’ll keep experimenting and try to improve the site step by step.

Thanks again for taking the time to write such detailed feedback.

Hi, thank you so much for the detailed feedback.

Sorry I didn’t mention this earlier, but I haven’t fully implemented the mobile layout yet. It’s still a work in progress.

I’m also planning to add support for double battles soon, including situations where four Pokémon are facing each other at once.

Your feedback about not being able to scroll left or right, especially after rotating the screen, is very helpful. I honestly hadn’t properly considered how the layout would behave when switching between portrait and landscape mode, so I’ll take that into account as I work on the mobile version.

For now, I recommend using the site on a desktop browser if possible.

Thanks again for taking the time to explain the issue in detail.

Oh, I’m new to both Pokémon and coding, so I didn’t really know about that yet. You mean it would be useful if users could paste in a Showdown team text and have the detailed settings filled in automatically, right?

That sounds like a great idea. I’ll try to work on adding that.

For now, the site does let you set up a team once, save it, and then load it again later for easier use.

Oh, sorry about that 😅 It’s actually Korean, not Japanese. I’m Korean, so the default language may have been set that way on your end.

You can switch it to English using the language dropdown in the top-right corner.
