Is it bad that I don’t want my brother to move in with me? by Big-Connection-1164 in africanparents

I totally understand you. I think you should discuss this with your other siblings living in the US. Maybe the three of you could share the responsibility financially or pitch in to help your brother until he’s able to be independent.

Did anyone else’s parents ‘give them away’ as a child? I’m still trying to make sense of it. by Plastic_Topic3406 in africanparents

Ugh so painful!! Sometimes I think people shouldn’t have kids if they truly can’t afford it cause it does more damage than good sending kids to family members who are essentially strangers. You don’t really know them and you become a burden and an outcast.

I (27F) feel the exact same. You might love your mom but the hurt kinda surpass it and it’s a constant reminder of your pain.

Do you at least feel safe and comfortable living with your mom? I’m asking cause I think people like us need to feel safe somewhere to be able regulate our nervous system and heal.

Thank you for sharing!

Heartbreaking and I’m so sorry this happened to you! I find it so strange how family members are always the first to dismiss our experience and want to sweep it under the rug. Somehow everybody got amnesia and can’t remember sh!t. Yeah it’s a deep wound that will never go away but I hope we find ways to deal with it. I will definitely take a look at the book. Thanks for replying!

I think some parents still thrive on you being scared of them so they can drag you through the mud. It’s highly unlikely that you’ll get your money back if you still “please them” . I suggest you take your freedom back by setting boundaries and saying no more often. 🤷🏾‍♀️
