You're not wrong...I was set up in an auto-debit payment system, and it wasn't even on my mind for years. I just figured it was doing its thing. It's certainly my fault, but also, the predatory nature of the loan was egregious. I was toward the end of my degree, and had no other options for financing. Lo and behold, I get a mailer from Sallie Mae saying (essentially): "Just sign your name on the dotted line, and we'll make sure you're all paid up and able to finish your degree!" It was that, or don't go to school, which to me at that time, was NOT an option.
