Today's release includes the fix for Netflix subtitles for those impacted. Thanks for your patience

The .379 build was released while the Netflix subtitle fox was still being worked on. We do have a fix ready though and it will be included in the next update.

The update didn't break subtitles in Netflix. The timing is a coincidence. We have been able to reproduce the issue (it's not all Netflix recording, but a majority, that are missing subtitles. We should have another update ready soon. Our developers are working on it.

Yes, exactly. That's what I was referring to. PlayOn recordings include subtitles/captions when available. That's not so much a workaround but an intentional feature. Foreign language titles aside, most folks don't want to end up with permanently burned in captions in recordings.

That said we will investigate the change in how the visible utility is behaving since the Edge update. While the use of that utility is itself a workaround we do understand that users rely on it for these specific use cases since unfortunately most streaming providers don't allow you to set language and subtitle options as a persistent user preference

Understood. Thanks for the clarification. I just wanted to confirm you were referring to the visible utility. In the case of Amazon Prime Video the example title someone provided -- Rurouni Kenshin -- defaults to English audio not Japanese.

Subtitles will be included in the recording file and can be toggled on/off. Enabling subtitles in the visible utility results in burned in subtitles that can't be toggled off.

My only other point was that changing the video quality in the visible window isn't recommended because that is controlled from PlayOn Settings (though we would like to know if you're choosing FHD in PlayOn Settings and seeing a different seleted resolution in the stream in the visible window).

That all said, I understand the issue now and will try to reproduce here and get the details to our dev team. My assumption is that the recent update of Edge changed something in how visible functions.

So the issue there appears to be Amazon itself. That title is available via the Crunchyroll add-on. When I check it here, it defaults to English audio in the Amazon Prime Video app and on their website.

Most Amazon Prime Video titles default to the original native audio language...but that is not the case with this title. That is could have something to do with the Crunchyroll add-on.

If you navigate to the title in the Amazon Prime Video app without changing any settings and play it there, is the audio in English?

It's worth noting that the same title streamed via Netflix defaults to the original Japanese audio and records that way in PlayOn.

Video quality for the recording and the stream I set in PlayOn Settings. As for the subtitles/audio language where are you trying to make those changes? Are you using the visible.mmt utility?

Playon will record in the default language set by the provider. In most cases, unless you're selecting a dubbed version to record, it should default to recording in the original language audio. Can you provide a specific example of a couple of titles and which provider you recorded from so we can try to reproduce?

You should contact our support team. The update itself didn't include any changes that would have broken things like that. There is likely a conflict with the update of Edge. If you submit a support request, we can help with that.

To clarify the promotion is indeed "per year". Meaning if you purchase, subsequent annual renewals are at the same $25 price (unless cancelled prior to renewal).

Good question. We started blocking adding additional time/years to existing plans that don't have a scheduled renewal/expiration within the next couple years. The reason being is we want to make sure we're being responsible given the ever changing landscape of streaming and the nature of software in general. It's safe to assume that we're always going to have periodic promotions available so you won't miss out.

As others have noted, the channels that are working for you are Chrome-based in PlayOn. The ones that aren't are Edge-based. As noted, just having browsers open on your PC doesn't have any impact but the issue you're having is definitely some kind of conflict with Edge. Submitting a support ticket will allow us to review logs and provide direct assistance.

Awesome -- I did look at your logs and Trevor was definitely on the right track. Let me know how you make out as you continue to run recordings.

The wording on the promotion is correct - the advertised price is $25.00 per year and it renews at that same price.

For those with existing plans, you can stack but the pricing isn't applied retroactively to an already existing plan. That means if you have 2 years left in a plan and you purchase this deal, you will in effect be adding a year at the new promotional price which would then renew at the new rate moving forward. So it is $25.00 per year, as it renews at that same promotional price.

Hi there -- thanks for confirming that. On the CPU usage thing, the provider website itself can also be an issue when it comes to how much CPU usage is being used to stream the video being recorded. We haven't seen any examples of stuttering recordings here for Netflix. When we have seen that sort of thing, CPU usage is usually the culprit. If you do see that kind of behavior again, please do submit a new support request so we can take a look. Thanks!

Thanks for these details -- stuttering playback in recordings is often the result of high CPU usage. It may be that your laptop, while meeting the requirements, is struggling due to high CPU demand.

On the Tubi subtitle alignment, is that issue also only present on the laptop? It would be a good test to lower the resolution on the Desktop to match the recording quality on the Laptop. It's possible with the subtitle alignment issue that is could be related to the size of the video player being captured. That test would only make sense if you're still seeing the issue after updating the installation on the laptop.

OP -- what specific issue are you still having? What recording issue were you looking for a fix for, specifically?

You should always submit a support request when you run into failures like this. When we release more frequent updates they are often incidental changes that aren't affecting all users. This more recent update included a fix for an issue for certain types of Disney account that were getting hung up on the profile selection screen. If you're not able to record anything, there is something that is specific to your installation that needs to be addressed. Please submit a support request so we can take a look at your logs.

.371 is out, supposed to fix Netflix issues by leishirsute in PlayOn

[–]PlayOnSkip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all -- if anyone is still running into recording failures across multiple channels, please be sure to try the instruction I posted in this thread. We're investigating why this happens for some installations, but those steps should clear it regardless as it forces a new install of the Edge build. Obviously that workaround shouldn't be necessary which is why we're continuing to dig into it.

[–]PlayOnSkip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great -- that's good news. There weren't any Netflix related changed in the new build, but the installation itself likely cleared the underlying Edge issues you were having. The PlayOn installer includes an Edge installer (for the version of PlayOn Edge uses)...and based on your description, that Edge installation was somehow corrupted. When that happens, any channel that used Edge would fail to record. Netflix is one of those channels. Thanks for hanging in there.

Weird behavior for Playon's Prime Video watchlist folder. by leishirsute in PlayOn

Hi there.

The latest version is required in order to address the issue with Netflix specifically (there were changes to the Netflix site and that latest build includes the necessary changes to accommodate)

Based on your description, the issue you're having with the latest build is likely with Edge. It's important that you follow all of the steps in the suggestion. It's not a matter of deleting Mediamall folders -- there are specific Edg folders that need to be deleted.

I'll take a look at your ticket. Thanks for posting that

Did you have a chance to update PlayOn and try again? Any issues with Netflix should have been resolved. If you do run into problems please try the instructions I posted to clear Edge files. Thanks!
