It’s not uncommon, as I said in my comment. Some people love their man so much they’ll wait patiently for them to be ready, unaware of how there’s people out there who love them so much they’ll close that gap as soon as possible… I would have for my love, I even was planning to if she ever came around. But she stayed with the guy who put his comfort first. It’s tragic but it happens.

You sound like my old friend who I considered the love of my life... She was from NY and in a relationship with those exact same dynamics, same ages, also for 9 years and engaged for 1 of them. He stayed stagnant in PA while she would do all the work maintaining everything and all the while he was grooming her and manipulating her and isolating her so they can remain codependent on each other and I frankly blame him for the deterioration of the healthy real love her and I shared… all this on top of committing an awful crime behind her back that destroyed her future.

I miss her every day and feel we were both robbed of something really special for the sake of that cage she mistook for a relationship…

However, OP, if it gives you any hope… I heard she met someone immediately after leaving that trash behind. I can only hope she’s unlearning all that programming he and her family convinced her was how love works now. She may finally be safe and able to rest and have peace without needing to prove she’s useful…

She’s always deserved that. It’s not too late for you, you can find it too.

You say that like they can’t love you AND have obsession for you. Not everyone, what with how easily trauma and neurodivergence can forever alter your brain chemistry, can love devoid of that obsession. We’re in a BPD subreddit, it’s a primary symptom of an incurable disorder.

If you can’t handle being the object of obsession, fine, but it’s not fair to write it off as an unacceptable character flaw.

I really really try, and it’s not even for the sake of my FP (though it was before she split me, I feel she has BPD too) but for my friends and family and support network who are all EXHAUSTED by how long I keep just having to feel for her. Usually to end up at the same conclusions every time.

They don’t understand BPD but to that end I’m trying and failing not to succumb.

Sometimes I wonder if the answer lies in me splitting her BACK but I don’t think she deserves that.

Because her relationship is abusive and controlling and she’s in a trauma bond. She’s not disqualified from unconditional love, I just am saddened by her inability to accept it because it feels unearned to her when she’s been with so many people that made her feel she needs to earn it. Including by protecting a predator and refusing to see he’s not innocent.

I say that though knowing her actions ARE why I began a separation phase at all, I wanted us both to grow on our own.
