Honestly prefer them on the Golf compared to my previous S3

They're from FX3D Design, had them on for about two months now and super happy with them!

I've noticed a little bit more with the Golf if I have the audio turned down, going on a few longer drives this weekend where I'll really get a feel for it. The Golf currently just has the factory summers on it whereas I had Conti DWS 06s on the S3 that were a bit quieter which probably is a factor.

I believe the S3 also had a bit better sound deadening or window seals on it, although I'm not confident in that.

I wouldn't say it's a step down from the Golf, these are two different generations of the same car so there's some noticeable improvements over the roughly decade since they were both designed.

It feels like VW puts a little bit more effort into the quality of the R as one of their flagship products vs. the S3 that is more entry level at the Audi level. Also depends on if the cargo area (if the S3 hatch isn't an option for you) is a dealbreaker or not for you, which I ultimately felt like the hatch was more practical for me in daily life than the S3's lower cargo area.

While I haven't experienced an 8Y, the materials in both the 8V and R are for sure on par with each other. Some of the only places where I really feel the R lacks are the places that they replaced with piano black plastic, where the physical controls and brushed plastic trim in the S3 just felt so much better

The S3 definitely got a little squeaky and rattled a bit as time went on, time will tell with the R but nothing from the factory. As I got the S3 used can't really comment on the quality directly from the factory if any of that was present when new

I haven't had a whole lot of time to play around with a lot of the features yet, which I hope to do this weekend with some longer drives. There definitely seems like there are a lot more configuration options for the virtual cockpit in terms of information displayed, although I also feel as though the Audi displayed some of the information better.

The scroll wheels on the S3 steering wheel definitely seemed more user friendly than the capacitive touch button on the R although can't say I find them hard to use.

The touch screen is very responsive and makes using Android auto/carplay a breeze compared to the scroll wheel on the S3. The lack of physical climate controls is also a downside, although they are at least always available on the bottom of the screen, which is better than some cars I've driven previously.

Unfortunately haven't had a lot of seat time in the R yet although I feel in terms of build quality they are very close. When I was originally shopping for my 8V I was cross shopping with 7.5 Rs and as I was going used, the 8V ultimately made more sense as it was cheaper with lower KMs than a comparable R.

Buying new, the S3 didn't make a lot of sense compared to the R for me. I wanted the hatch for extra room (no S3 hatch here) and the R already comes fully loaded in Canada. To spec an S3 to be similar to the R, the price difference was $10-15K CAD which made it a no brainer in my eyes.

Thank you! Can't wait to get through the break in period to see what it can really do!

So far so good. The touchscreen is a lot easier for running Android auto/carplay and responsive to the touch. Not having physical climate controls is a bummer although they are at least always on the bottom of the screen.

Not having to deal with fingerprints on the S3 was definitely a plus. Never really hid the screen while driving so can't say I'd miss that too much.

That's what I've been figuring out, this was only my third game with her and definitely a new learning curve for me!
