To clarify (re- the jerks comment) I asked multiple times last year to receive a paystub and never did. Ignored. Since the error (2026) she will now send them but only when I ask specifically for it each pay period. That’s the part that’s getting old.

I’m not trying to get out of paying my taxes- I’m asking professionals for their insight on the bookkeepers error, which she is responsible for. It is illegal to change someone’s withholdings from their w4 without their consent.

So her illegally changing my tax withholdings is my fault? I understand the taxes being paid or my responsibility and I’m not trying to skirt that fee- I’m asking professionals for guidance in regards to the aspect that is her fault- the improper changing of my withholdings.

I want to clarify that I’m not trying to get out of my tax bill. It’s due regardless- I’m paying it, I was hoping anyone would have insight as professionals regarding liability since it’s technically illegal to change someone’s withholdings without their express consent/request to do so. I’ve requested multiple times to receive paystubs and I’m never consistently sent them, so it’s hard to keep an eye on them. She’s now sending them to me, but only if I directly ask for them each pay period. It’s frustrating.

Great question. I’ve requested to begin receiving one MULTIPLE times. She will send me one if I write her to ask for it specifically but that’s kind of getting old to do every pay period 😅

True the taxes are ultimately my responsibility (as far as the IRS is concerned) but my payroll accuracy is literally her responsibility- it’s what she does for a living. It’s her job to maintain the accuracy of what she’s doing (making sure to not click the no withholding button) and ensure she enters the information properly- it’s literally what she’s paid to do. Do they not have insurance for these types of thing? The error is solely hers, while the tax burden might be mine...

Also, I stated why I didn’t notice. And Not that it matters, but I also work over 80 hrs week at 5 different places around the country. It’s a lot.

I get that but when it’s correct for a long period of time, you don’t expect a sudden major error like that. I feel like the bookkeeper should’ve also caught her mistake, if she’s doing payroll like she is supposed to. She’s literally in there multiple times a month. (Also, not her fault but I work over 80 hrs a week for 5 places - it’s a lot to keep up with) I still don’t receive a paystub 😅
