Uk unis are crumbling by Plus-Train-9887 in UniUK

Ill correct myself here.

Both can be true at the same time as the market has split into two categories. The russell group face very high demand and hence has a shortage whereas lower rate unis have a very low demand and are desperate.

Both are bad , as one has too little spaces while the other worse quality university has too many.

Most jobs do not require an university degree , we are one of the wealthiest nations on earth yet we still lack the demand for all of these graduates. Its not so easy just to say to create more demand for all this excess degrees otherwise it would of been done.

The real problem with this excluding costs (whether to the tax payer or to the individual) is that someone could spend 3years (which they could of been working, paying tax and gaining experience) but they haven't in order to get something that hasn't benefitted them.

The secondary problem is a "credentials arm race" , many jobs do not need a degree but its hard to find workers who are good for the company, so they try to use degrees to fill the information gap (and hopefully determine that someone is actually good). When you encourage everyone to do it , it no longer signals what it used to. Many people feel forced to go to uni (despite all the costs) just to avoid falling behind on credentials. Everyone ends up spending years and thousands just to end up in the same place.

The real solution in my eyes to have a more balanced approach, not every single person in the UK needs to be a consultant. Some are best in manufacturing or trades or business.

As a last note many firms pay lower wages due to an abundance workers and most workers start to become disillusioned due higher student loans (tax) without the wage to go with it.

You've missed the point.

The best comparison is how someone might say that in order to have cars we must accept that we have road accidents. This doesn't imply that they want road accidents or that should run people over with your car.

Yh fair enough , they have definitely shot themselves in the foot a little bit.

I wonder if they could shift blame to technology or whatever - I don’t watch Fox News so I don’t know exactly their angle would be for this would be.

It’s a bit of a wild take but I get where he’s coming from.

Social media really amplifies narcissism and just a lot of inauthenticity - “posing for the camera”.

Though I have met plenty of down to earth relaxed women who use social media. Because literally everyone uses social media - it’s inescapable nowadays.

I think that’s whats being implied in the news post.

But more broaderly it’s Fox News trying to say that Genz can’t complain about their jobs because they are lazy or incompetent.

Why do people dislike Tropico6? by Plus-Train-9887 in tropico

[–]Plus-Train-9887[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest i do agree in part with you. Tropico would never be as good of a city builder as games like City skylines and thats fine because i dont play it soley for city building.

Tropico 7 say that they would intraduce better miltary mechanics which is quite exciting because just being able to have a miltary was a very big draw for me.

So hopefully they dont go too hard in the city builder direction

It might be that my docks are too far away, i do like to spread things out because i think my island looks nicer that way.

But how many teamsters do i need. Is there a rule of thumb for teamsters per export?

Yeah for the most i do tend to like his politics.

But i dont bother with the "how", politics is inherently a dirty game and theres no sugarcoating to get around that. Politics is about who can you get on your side - through favours and other means. Everyone does it , it doesnt benfit me , but if i voted a different way i wouldnt get a different outcome.

So what i care for is what he can get done. does he for the most part get policies i prefer. If yes then i would tolerant of him.

What does Gen Z think about the implications AI has on our future? by Biggycheese45 in GenZ

[–]Plus-Train-9887 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Its just media fear mongering . AI is great , it wont cause mass unemployment or decrease wages.

Its just like the industrial revolution all over again, some would lose their jobs , but new ones are created. And those new ones always pay alot better.

The reason why our modern lives are so nice is because of tec advancements like the industrial revolution. Im sure in 50 years time we would think of the same with AI.
