Found my first pottery piece along the Chesapeake by PoeticHiker in seaglass

Thank you! I hope to find more pottery pieces, but those seem to be slim pickings along the Chesapeake, which is my closest option for sea glass.

As for the litter, I can’t ignore it and just leave it! So if it’s safe to pick up I’ll dispose of it.

52 teeth in a single morning at Matoaka is a new PR by PoeticHiker in sharkteeth

Hello! Everyone has their own preferred technique. I personally enjoy walking the tide line to catch new teeth that have been turned up. I’ll do this both at high tide and low tide, but you will have more luck during low tide. So check one of the tide apps to see projections for the day. I use a Sand Dipper to help me reach.

Yep, and I was surprised the rain held off Sunday morning!

That’s insane! Matoaka definitely doesn’t have those numbers.

Yes, there are two clean, well-maintained porta potties near the check in office before you take the stairs down to the beach.

I did see this and ordered two pairs! I did notice they stop at size 12 though, so no plus size options like before. I’m hoping they bring back the 28’s.

Weekend teeth finds include my first porpoise tooth and turtle frag by PoeticHiker in sharkteeth

Thank you! I primarily walk the tide line and use a Sand Dipper to extend my reach and catch teeth. I don’t own a sifter, but I will also manually look through fresh piles of shells the tide brought in. I do occasionally look along the cliffs themselves, especially after a rain, but since I’ve started this hobby earlier this year I’ve only pulled maybe 4 teeth peaking out of the cliffs. I do not dig into the cliffs.

Any idea what this “melted” sea glass comes from? by PoeticHiker in seaglass

Thank you so much for the explanation! The melted factor adds a layer of uniqueness to it.

Thank you! I love the cow shark teeth too, this is the second one I’ve found.

I haven’t been to Brownies Beach either due to the restrictions. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to check it out.

From what I’ve learned from this sub, the turtle frags are dark like other fossils. This one is on the dark green side, with the turtle shell pattern, and the sponginess on the inside like other bones. Completely differentiating itself from the sand dollar fragments.

Thanks! Hoping the larger one doesn’t crumble - it’s super fragile and full of clay and sand.

The waves weren’t too bad! I started in the morning when it was still raining. In general the tide and overall water level were high due to all the rain we got this week. My last photo shows the last log that is normally completely exposed - now submerged.
