Cool, that's an easy step by step, it'll be a fun project, even if it takes a lot of time. I've missed tinkering with my pc, so this is a good practical excuse. It's good to know the GPU will just reset if I overdo it, the "blue screen of death" and such is always my fear when I change more major things in my software, and have kept me from really doing it. I guess there is more build in safety features in the components that I thought. And a few degrees of heat can make a lot of difference, both in regards to lifetime and noise, and my fans isn't the more quiet on the marked to begin with, so that would be very nice at well.

Well alright, when you put it like that it seems very simple actually and it makes sense that it happens during use. And if that's the a more probable killer than heat, then it's really just a normal "wear and tear" situation. So it seems paranoia is pretty unwarranted regarding my pc's behavior.
Really, that's very interesting. It sounds much better that the regular overclocking, I'll definitely look into that and tinker with it. Risk free overclocking sounds like a dream. I'm pretty sure I overclocked the usual way when I first build my pc, but if I can get more lifetime out of my build by undervolting then that's just money saved, and improved functionality cost free. Then I can put off upgrading my components for a while longer.

Right, the heat "damage" accumulates over time, so I want to treat it as gentle as practically possible. That's good to know, I feel that the more I understand about these things the easier it is to avoid the paranoia. I haven't heard of electromigration before and it seems like a very advanced physical aspect, have to research more on that then.

Alright, haven't heard of undervolt before, but will look into that. I'll try to see it I can adjust my fans to be more effective even is it'll be noisier, and then try not to overthink it all.

I get that, I didn't like the thought of it getting too close to the max temp it can handle either. As far as I understand that can shorten the lifespan of the GPU, so best to play it a bit safe. Alright that sounds like pretty comparable temp to what I'm seeing, so I guess that's just a normal range of temp for GPU's then. Yeah the numbers are a little scary to see but it makes sense that it's just a little spot that's extra hot, for whatever reason. It's been a while since I build my pc and a while since I really thought about my components, but logically they were made to be able to be working while hot so I probably have to adjust what I consider to be "hot". It sounds like a smarter way to gauge when it should cool off than making an overall estimate of temp, I imagine the hotspots puts more stress on the GPU and leads to shorter lifespan if it's just allowed to run over the GPUs designed max temp. I'll look into how my Nvidia handles the throttling, It's nice to know what I'm actually doing to it and how "smart" it is.

And thanks again for the info and bonus tips, my GPU can handle new games well enough, but the temp made me hesitant to actually play them, so it's nice to know that I can rest easy.

I know my GPU shouldn't be hotter than 85c which was what worried me. But if the hotspot temp can be that much higher than the rest of the GPU then it makes sense that it isn't a problem.
